The Edible Weiner: Too Much To Swallow?

Disgraced Ex-Congressman Anthony Weiner is giving back  in a big way — or so he claims.  Fresh off a recent loss in New York City’s municipal elections, Weiner held the lead among Democratic mayoral  hopefuls until  disturbing texts with a decidedly lewd overtone were released by a 22-year-old woman he met online. Other women came forward to sink the Weiner warship but Weiner vowed to remain in politics and be active in the community despite another public humiliation for him and his wife, Huma Abedin, a former Hillary Clinton aide.

And alas, now he’s got an idea to rehabilitate his reputation and Rockaway, Queens, a neighborhood that was devastated by Hurricane Sandy in 2012. Beset by rebuilding delays and high unemployment, Weiner proposes a new restaurant with a social conscience in the still reeling community. The Rockaway Restoration Kitchen is months away from it’s first fryer drop but Weiner plans to open the business and employ persons with substance abuse and criminal issues. He also wants to help the diet of the neighborhood, he claims. Rockaway, says Weiner,  is a “food desert” dominated by fast food chains and pizzerias.  “We want to do something sustainable for the community, while also providing healthy, local food options for the Rockaway population.”

Weiner plans a thirteen week training period that will provide life skills as well as restaurant skills. He’s hoping to make The Rockaway Restoration Kitchen  a launch pad for at-risk folks who can obtain other similar jobs once they complete the training program. One mistake shouldn’t be cause for unmitigated disaster Weiner reasons, and he should know.

Pipe dream? Maybe. A PR tour de force with another run at political  office being Objective No. 1? Almost surely. A recipe for success? A true quest for forgiveness from the women in his life?

Well, as any restaurant owner can tell you, the proof is in the pudding.

    Al Sharpton is not a man to honor or emulate or excuse.

  2. Is Al Sharpton a pal of the Weiner? All of these Yorkies, of any race, religion, ethnic group, are suspect. They speak their own version of the King’s English called Turdy Turd and a Turd. They know everything. They are self first. I would say selfish but they know nuthin bout selling fish. They need their own nation state. First, separate the city from NY, include all the boroughs and Long Island for sure. Then, build a wall around it. Call it Selfishstein. They can adopt a flag depicting a fat pig eating goffer turds while driving a Cadillac. We need a two state solution.

  3. Hopefully he has financial backing that does not care about a return on investment. All of these pie in the sky promises together, I doubt, will make his business model competitive.

  6. I like Squeeky’s and Elaine’s poetry. “Channelling Squeeky” does not mean plagiarizing or derivative; Squeeky lately has been posting charming light hearted poems. When Elaine, also a poet, does so in the same light hearted vein, it is a welcome respite. It reminds me of the old extemporaneous Irish tradition of one poet creating the beginning of a poem, and another promptly ending it.

  7. From what I’ve read, Weiner is not just a serial womanizer. There seemed to be a thoughtless, obsessive, and harassing aspect to his texts. He appears to have sent a naked photo of his, um, monicker, to a lot of women, many of whom were unsuspecting. Creepy.

    And I recall when Hillary Clinton made fun of the “stand by your man” song. I do not consider it a “witch hunt” to ponder, what the HECK is Huma thinking???

    If she, or Hillary, are going to doggedly stay with men who humiliate them repeatedly, and thoroughly, then the general population is going to wonder, what the heck? I’ve heard the rumors that Hillary is a lesbian. I wonder if the source of the rumors is the fact that the Clinton marriage has the outward appearance of being entirely mercenary, or if it’s an explanation for why she keeps a dog who won’t stay on the porch (her words.)

    It really doesn’t matter to me either way, and I don’t consider speculation about sexual orientation to be a put down. But I ride, and there are a lot of openly gay and lesbian riders in the sport.

    I think Weiner is weird, on the level of flasher weird, and I sure hope Huma is staying with him for love, and not out of pressure to avoid a failed marriage. He cheated on her almost immediately.

  10. I disagree about Sharpton being a racist or a race baiter. He is someone who recognizes racist behavior in our racist society and calls the perpetrators on it.

    Those who brag about knowing what a word meant in 1247 AD have a since of humor, and tend to spend lots of time in old book stores reading about the flat Earth.

    One has to keep ahead of the pudding to have a contemporary sense of humor.

  19. This guy is from Vienna. The German folks spell it Wein. A Weiner is a person who got off the boat at Ellis Island and they interposed the name of town with last name. But he is not as one might suggest an Oscar Mayer Weener. He is a weenie of sorts but that is a matter of different concern. He wants to be in the public eye. And the neighborhood he speaks of is a cultural dessert. So he offers them a just dessert. Avoid the matzo balls its gonna get ugly when he hires the help.
