The news continues to grow worse over global warming. The Peru meeting revealed new research showing that time is running out for humanity to act on climate change. Now to new reports indicate that we may have underestimate the rate of loss on the huge ice sheet of West Antarctica — new calculations under global warming could mean a rise in global sea levels of as much as 23 feet. That would create massive changes in the coasts of the world.
The research indicates that prior computer modeling efforts did not capture the full dynamics of what is happening with these ice sheets during global warming. The difference is immense when one considers that the Greenland ice sheet is 656,000 square miles long with an average thickness of over a mile. If that ice melts at a faster rate, it would result in costly global changes, including the loss of cities and islands.
The more complex models shows that the dimensions of the topography and melting factors should result in a much faster meltdown.
The first new study in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences by scientists at the University at Buffalo and several other institutions, used laser altimetry to measure almost 100,000 elevation points atop the Greenland ice sheet. The result is confirmation of a much higher melting process of about .68 millimeters of annual sea level rise rather than the previously estimated .29 millimeters per year.
A second student in Nature Climate Change by Amber Leeson from the University of Leeds looked at “supraglacial lakes,” which form atop the Greenland ice sheet. These lakes suddenly vanish through “moulins,” or crevasses, that plunge to depths far below the ice sheet. The study indicates that these lakes (which hold greater heat) will become more extensive with global warming and, through draining, accelerate melting.
There of course remain those who refuse to accept the vast majority of scientific researcher and experts on the fact of climate change. However, the concern is that we are passing a redline that divides an unpleasant world from an uninhabitable one.)
The result from Lima is being heralded as an improvement in securing agreement but the details show a substantial lack of consensus, including a refusal of countries to agree on a uniform way of accounting for emissions cuts. That is a critical issue since goals are meaningless if there is not uniform measuring of cuts. It was still more productive than past meetings but scientists warn that time is of the essence as the world continues to debate the most basic elements of a system of reduction of emissions.

READ BETWEEN THE LINES
Professor Phil Jones
” Bottom Line – The no upward trend would have to continue for a total 15 years before we get worried ”
Think about that for a moment
In other words Dr Jones fears a lack of warming and if there is a lack of warming for 15 years the scam would fall apart and likely loose funding

Global Warming??? I thought the kooks renamed it to “climate change” once all those emails were leaked about the whole thing being a bunch of Barbara Streisand.
Six, nope. I don’t volunteer for anyone right now if Republicans put up a good candidate I’ll give them all the time I can.
There seems to be the implication that human beings can freeze the climate at today’s value. This ignores the fact that the global climate has changed since the formation of our atmosphere. If we ceased producing any more carbon than our own respiration, the climate would still change. We should be ensuring that humankind can adapt no matter what the climate, because the only sure thing is that it is going to change.
What frustrates me is that while we spend billions of dollars combating Climate Change, we have no money or interest left in fighting the clear and present danger of pollutants. We have managed to contaminate the entire ocean with mercury, to the point that pregnant women are advised against eating fish, which used to be one of the healthiest proteins on Earth. Persistent Organic Pollutants collect in the Arctic sink, and concentrate in the flesh of marine mammals, and those that eat them. The breastmilk of the Inuit people of Greenland has the highest concentration of POPs in the world and can LITERALLY be classified as toxic waste. We’ve got arsenic contaminating our water table. Brown fields.
If we focused our treasure and efforts on cleaning up the pollutants which cause cancer and other health problems TODAY, then the Earth would be a healthier place for all of us, as well as the flora and fauna. Plus, many of these efforts would also focus on clean renewable energy, which would also reduce carbon emissions. Win win.
Instead we have a pork trough of carbon credit taxes that just make the coffers richer, while the ocean is still just as contaminated as always.
Well, Karen, you should be ecstatic over the results of the last election. Now you will be able to talk to your GOP rulers about pollution matters, and not global warming. I am sure you will be pleased as they get to work increasing the powers of the EPA. Unfortunately, last time I checked though, the GOP wants to get rid of the EPA, or seriously weaken its rules. Come to think of it, our Prof Turley has written against governmental agencies having power to make those regs. I hope you will not be holding your breath in hope, even though you might have to do it like we have to do in Houston since the GOP in the legislature did away with clean air regs and Guv for life Perry spoke out against the EPA. Our Guv elect, even does not want to let the firefighters and first responders have the information of hazardous or explosive materials that are stored or produced in the many plants across Texas.
Who was Oliver Stone?
Six:
why is that?
saying the climate is changing is like saying the stock market is going to go up and down. What does that even mean? And like the stock market, dont you think there are multiple variables which contribute to the rise and fall?
Man made global warming is like saying the bankruptcy of Exxon Mobil will destroy Wall St. Good luck with that kind of thinking.
The climate is always going to change and man probably has some small influence but the sun is what energizes our world. You cannot ignore that.
A couple of degrees in global temperature would be good for human beings. Longer growing seasons, better climate, etc.
Oliver Stone, pick up the white courtesy phone. Paging Oliver Stone, white courtesy phone please.
How many of you that commented above work for political organizations and post/comment either ‘professionally’ or as part of your volunteer ‘service’ for the organization? After reading through some of the posts above, that can be my only conclusion…
If they truly believed they were saving the world then they would never allow anyone to profit off of the endeavor. Instead, this is “selfie” science and government getting into bed together. Any initiative with overwhelming bipartisan support will tell you it’s not political and this does not have it.
@Dust Bunny Queen ~ exactly. That’s why I find this whole global warming hard to stomach. They had the same uproar over global freezing in the 70’s. The bottom line is, there’s nothing we can do to change the weather. I also do not believe it’s mans fault. I find it’s just another reason for the democrats to extort money from the American people to fund some stupid global warming department (lol) and then use that money for other means. It’s just total BS in my opinion and years on this earth. At the last Global Warming summit in Colorado, it snowed! lol
@randyjet ~ I list 3 sources and one being as new as 2011.
Your claim states “If you take this article seriously, I can understand why you cannot understand the fact of global warming.”
I understand perfectly. There were also people whom came forward and admitted it wasn’t real. It’s another way for Washington to steal money from the American people by creating some Global Warming Czar and then taxing Americans to put money in that department. It’s a joke. Then Obama will take money from that fund to fund his ACA, just like he’s taking money out of Medicaid to fund ACA.
I hear there are nutty winger doomsday preppers who live in California. They deny climate change due to global warming, yet they hyperventilate over zombies or something.
@ Msjettexas
Randyjet who is probably about 18, doesn’t understand that the article you are referencing is to show that the hysteria in the 70’s is similar to the hysteria today and will be similar to the next calamity that the media and government will dream up. The media and the government running around with their hair on fire trying to keep the peons confused and with the sole intent of grabbing power for themselves.
Ice age in the 70’s OMG we’re all gonna die. Drought in the 70’s in California….same thing We are all going to dry up and blow away. Then…not…… the drought is over and no one plans for the next one. Now Global Warming. We’re all gonna die!!! Drown in the sea rising a few centimeters a year Aaaaaand. Here is the drought again. Deja-bull. I’ve seen this sh*t before.
When you are 18 and everything is new to you…..you tend to take things seriously.
When you are in your 60’s and we’ve seen these stories before……hohum…..rerun…..it is really hard to get excited about the newest greatest set of lies and calamity that is “supposed” to befall us.
Maybe it is true. SO what? Likely it isn’t when based on past experience the experts never get anything right anyway.
Maybe it is true. SO what? Likely it isn’t when based on past experience the experts never get anything right anyway
This has to be on a par with W Bush saying about what history will say with the comment, Who cares? We will be dead anyway. It shows the complete self centered view of their lives and actions. Which is how they view everything from deficits, facts. war and others lives. Then the real kicker, that experts never get anything right. That is without question the most childish statement I have seen in awhile. Of course, ALL of our history shows the opposite, especially in science. I guess the A bomb does not exist and all of them are simply duds because the government can never to anything right and the experts DID make them. Incredible. You want to make policy based on that kind of thinking?
Conservatives have changed their debate style and are no longer the lay down that liberals have relied on to dominate discussions. We’ve always relied on facts, and reason to make the case but when we combine that with the stubbornness and persistence of a liberal; well, they can’t counter that.
Funny that this thread is the one that broke him. I’ve seen much more confrontational mud slinging on other topics. I’m also not sure what got him so upset. I’m over it though since one thing I’ve found is that liberals can’t seem to handle it when you disagree with them.
Max, nooooo. We need you. But I understand what you are saying. So many good commenters driven off and what replaced them?

Mr Turley,
I’ll continue to support you and your hard work.
“I can not support your blog site. Freedom of speech comes with little accountability here and is far too welcoming to disruptive people who get off on abusing your site to bash others here. I am not the only one who’s encountered this and as long as the trouble makers persist, others, too, will be driven off. It is a trend… and not a good one. Perhaps you will ban those who’ve abused your site and that would be a good thing for others who happen to feel they may want to say something and contribute as adults with out the fear of childish pranks from some regulars here. The names and accusations thrown around by particular people is intolerable and just can’t be entertained by me any longer. There is no respect here. Good bye and good luck”.

Whereas some people call it RAPE…

Because the Founders never specifically outlawed “sexually enhanced experiences”
NO?

It’s always less mentally traumatic to call their RAPE a sexually enhanced experience…
… It plays better on their Facebook account.

In Africa, drought continues for the sixth consecutive year, adding terribly to the toll of famine victims. During 1972 record rains in parts of the U.S., Pakistan and Japan caused some of the worst flooding in centuries. In Canada’s wheat belt, a particularly chilly and rainy spring has delayed planting and may well bring a disappointingly small harvest. Rainy Britain, on the other hand, has suffered from uncharacteristic dry spells the past few springs. A series of unusually cold winters has gripped the American Far West, while New England and northern Europe have…
