Afghan Mob Burns Woman Alive For Burning A Copy Of The Koran in Kabul [UPDATED]

220px-Mosque_of_the_King_of_Two_SwordsWe have another story of a Muslim mob murdering a person for offending Islam. A woman named Farkhunda, 32, in Kabul had reportedly burned a copy of the Koran inside a riverside shrine. She was then set upon by a huge mob that burned her alive and then threw her into the Kabul river. This was deemed the moral response to an immoral act by the crowd. [Update: It turns out that the accusations against Farkhunda may be untrue and that she was actually defending what she viewed as the degrading act of selling amulets in a mosque when she was attacked]

Four people have been arrested by the crowd watching and encouraging this despicable act was so large that they broke the railing of the shrine itself in pushing forward for a better look.

The murder occurred in the very capital of Afghanistan at the Shah-Do Shamshira mosque.

  1. In contrast,

“Islamic State has claimed responsibility for today’s bomb attacks in Yemen that sources say have killed 126 people – and vowed to carry out more assaults on the Shi’ite Muslim Houthi group that has seized control of the government.

“God willing, this operation is only a part of a coming flood,” the group said in a statement posted by supporters on Twitter.”

  2. Pogo, that you don’t view them speaks to your closed mind. Epistemic Closure in action. As I said I’m not comparing them to fundamentalist Muslims, again I am providing better examples of Christian Fundamentalism than the Amish. I guess you are stuck in that rut and don’t read or view anything that doesn’t fit your narrative. Narrow, limited closed, so sad.

  3. “the fun has just begun.

None of your videos show burning people for apostacy, however.

    Off-topic, immaterial, and unviewed.

    That is, typical Inga.

  4. As we’ve been saying, at least the ‘we’ here who are rational, it’s FUNDAMENTALISM, not religion per se.

  5. Thread’s over.

Now it’s another Attack of the Angry Multitude of Unwatched Unrelated Videos, in which Muslim people-burning is compared to Christian-Make-Me-Feelbads.

  6. I’m not comparing them to fundamentalist Muslims. I’m providing better examples of Christian Fundamentalists than the poor Amish that Karen always trots out.

  7. I must have missed it.
Did they burn some kids alive in that video?

If you insert “global warming” for ‘Jesus’ and “climate change” for ‘God’, that could be an Al Gore video.

  8. The Browns seem to be more interested in being left alone. They don’t prosthelitize either, at least it’s not evident from their TV show.

  9. The Amish are not evangelical and have no desire to proselytize.they don’t fit in the model of fundamental evangelicalism. Bad example.

  10. The Amish are religious fundamentalists. And yet, they do not blow up anyone, or kill anyone. If an “English” acts in a way that offends the Amish, they ignore them. If someone in their own Amish community breaks their rules or offends them, they shun them. Their most potent weapon is ignoring someone. To get around their strict rules against modern conveniences, they hire the “English” to drive them or take their phone calls. (Or they use a phone booth outside their house with a party line which, for some reason, is OK.)

It’s not religious fundamentalism, per se, that creates violence. It’s extremist zealots who want to impose their view on everyone else with the threat of violence.

Monks in Nepal are fundamentalist, but the Dali Lama is hardly issuing fatwas. The Brown Family are fundamentalist Mormon Polygamists, but they don’t murder people who don’t agree with them. And the Church of Latter Day Saints does not declare jihad against them because they do not agree with Fundamentalist Mormons.

Seriously, a mob of people lit a handicapped girl on fire and burned her to death in the name of Islam. You would think the world would just universally condemn extremist barbarism, and it would be the Great Unifier instead of Another Thing to Argue About.

Why do people always have to insert the “yeah, but Christianity was just as bad a thousand years ago?” Why can’t something just be wrong? When I hear about a murder on the news, I don’t say, “Yeah, but look at what Vlad the Impaler did 600 years ago.”

Speaking only for myself, of course, the reason for putting the crime in question in context, including the fact that it is being *treated* as a crime in Kabul, is the slavering Islamophobia evidenced here and in the larger US society, whose proponents pounce on such events as being evidence of the need to make war on violently zealous Muslims, rather than treating them as the criminals they are when they act out their violent zealotry.

  11. Chuck Norris is a teacher of martial arts who has made scads of money and has been on lots of magazine covers, in TV and the movies.
He has a million t-shirts with his picture on them.
    (TV! he’s been on TV!!)

He is also a Christian and says atheism is bunk.
    Your move, mespo.

  12. “@Pogo
You are not playing well with others!

In kindergarten I would “run with scissors.”

“…just so he won’t have a stroke or something???

I’m after his little dog, too.
