We have another story of a Muslim mob murdering a person for offending Islam. A woman named Farkhunda, 32, in Kabul had reportedly burned a copy of the Koran inside a riverside shrine. She was then set upon by a huge mob that burned her alive and then threw her into the Kabul river. This was deemed the moral response to an immoral act by the crowd. [Update: It turns out that the accusations against Farkhunda may be untrue and that she was actually defending what she viewed as the degrading act of selling amulets in a mosque when she was attacked]
Four people have been arrested by the crowd watching and encouraging this despicable act was so large that they broke the railing of the shrine itself in pushing forward for a better look.
The murder occurred in the very capital of Afghanistan at the Shah-Do Shamshira mosque.

Ken, did make an iota of sense to you? Sounds like pure ranting.
@Ken Rogers
You said, “Speaking only for myself, of course, the reason for putting the crime in question in context, including the fact that it is being *treated* as a crime in Kabul, is the slavering Islamophobia evidenced here and in the larger US society. . .blah blah blah, etc. etc. etc.”
Here! Let me translate that for you!
“I hate Christians because about half of them don’t fall for the Gay Agenda crap us Democrats push, and even more of them are anti-abortion. Plus, they think the Bible is more important than the Democratic Party Platform documents. They are stubborn, and clingers, and we can’t manipulate them as easily as we can the average sheeple in the country. Plus, they think there is stuff that we shouldn’t do, and we don’t like nobody who tells us we shouldn’t do certain stuff. Plus, if people start listening to them and behaving themselves like getting married, and not being drunks and addicts, then those people won’t f*ck up their lives and be broke and need us Democrats to bail them out in exchange for their votes! OHHHH I hate Christians, sooo I am going to run them down every chance I get!!!”
There! You’re welcome!

Most fundamentalists are zealots. It’s not a difficult connection to make.
Zealotry
fanatical and uncompromising pursuit of religious, political, or other ideals; fanaticism.
Fundamentalism
a form of a religion, especially Islam or Protestant Christianity, that upholds belief in the strict, literal interpretation of scripture.
strict adherence to the basic principles of any subject or discipline.
**********************************
Uncompromising. Strict adherence. Literal interpretation.

Oh, you know who Dead Can Dance is??? Wonderful! They are one of my favorite groups. They do a great The Carnival Is Over! Anyway, on the dance scene, it was Stellamara doing the background music. They can sound a lot like Dead Can Dance. Here is one of their numbers:

The music from the 1923 version sounded like Dead Can Dance.
Well, auto correct had fun with this one: proselytize.
Apparently my point was confusing to some that it is not fundamentalism, but rather zealots who want to impose their views on others using the threat of violence.
Mormons proselytize via nice young men and women in khakis and tie riding bicycles. Again, evangelism/proselytizing does not equate to violence.
I prosekytize about the virtues of organic produce, but I am not a zealot who thinks everyone should buy organic or die.
@Pogo.
Oh. Well, anyway it is nice to know we aren’t winding down as a species.

“from a lot of the old newsreels, is that people walked a lot faster back in those days”
A lot of that comes from an error in the film speed related to the hand-cranking
“Your condoning the use of white phosphorous on the Palestinians, including their children…”
Assumes facts not in evidence.
Inadmissible.
The quotes I posted simply stated a different POV from your quotes, suggesting there is more to the story than you allowed, and that the conclusions about its use are far less clear than you suggest.
@ P HaW
Do you deny, then, that you condone the use of white phosphorous by the IDF on the Gazans?
@Pogo
I like films like that. Somewhere, I have the Beardsly(?) book of the play, but I can’t put my hands right on it. But that wasn’t really the original soundtrack. I was just being silly. Anyway, there is a lot of old silent movies and stuff on youtube. One thing I noticed from a lot of the old newsreels, is that people walked a lot faster back in those days. I mean, they just skiddled along like they were jogging or something. Maybe that is why they stayed so skinny compared to us. I wonder why we slowed down so much??? Was it high fructose corn syrup???

Quoting implicitly approbatively the use of white phosphorous on Palestinians:
“Contrary to the impression given in ‘Assad is a war criminal, but an attack will do nothing for the people of Syria’ (Comment, last week, page 34), white phosphorus, used by Israeli forces in Gaza in 2008, is not a chemical weapon as understood by the Chemical Weapons Convention, and its use is in itself not ‘in breach of all international conventions,’” the paper noted.”
Gasoline isn’t banned by the Chemical Weapons Convention, either, but when it’s used to firebomb people, whether apostate Muslims or Palestinian families in taxi cabs, it’s still a gruesome weapon.
White phosphorous, used by the IDF, is, if anything, even worse, since its flames can’t be extinguished by water, but I gather you think the heinousness of a flammable weapon’s use depends on whose ox is being gored or, rather, incinerated:
“When white phosphorus comes into contact with people or objects, it creates an intense and persistent burn, emitting heat and absorbing liquid. It is soluble in organic material and fat, but not in water, which neutralizes it by cutting off the oxygen supply.
“In addition to causing intense burns, white phosphorus can also penetrate the body and poison internal organs. According to a report prepared during the recent fighting by the office of IDF chief medical officer, ‘…kidney failure and infections are characteristic long-term outcomes.’ The report concludes that ‘a wound caused by explosive ordnance containing phosphorus is potentially extremely destructive to tissue.’
“A report by the Israeli Ministry of Health is equally stark in its assessment of white phosphorus’s medical risks. Entitled ‘Exposure to White Phosphorus,’ the report states that ‘[w]hite phosphorus can cause serious injury and death when it comes into contact with the skin, is inhaled or is swallowed.’ It continues: “[b]ecause it is very soluble in fat, it quickly penetrates the skin from the surface or from an embedded fragment. Most of the tissue damage is cause by the heat accompanying the continuing oxidation of the phosphorus, and from the product of the oxidation – phosphoric acid.’
“The report also mentions the ‘systemic poisoning’ that can result. In addition to its ‘usual’ burn effects, white phosphorus is poisonous, and has serious consequences that intensify the effects of the injury. Many laboratory studies have shown that burns covering a relatively small area of the body – 12-15% in laboratory animals and less than 10% in humans – may be fatal because of their effects on the liver, heart and kidneys. Additional effects include serious hypocalcemia and delayed healing of wounds and burns.”

Your condoning the use of white phosphorous on the Palestinians, including their children, surely exemplifies you as you a credit to your authoritarian ilk.
An uncanny likeness!
But seriously, what a cool old film.
@Pogo
I was wondering if you would pick up on that! Good catch! Here is a bit of trivia for you. He is sooo old, that he was in the 1923 version too! Here is a cut, with the original soundtrack:

I think I saw mespo in there too!
This blog is absolutely drenched in Orientalism. Science laws are a bit more robust that legislative or judge-made law…

With all the hatred against Christians here, I think I found where someone’s gravatar image came from. It isn’t Mata Hari, it’s Oscar Wilde’s Salome. The full play is on Youtube, but be warned that it is very naughty and for adults only. Here is a 5 minute cut of the last dance. Look at the dancer and see if it looks familiar. . .

PS: The whole play is worth watching if you are into artistic stuff. But is is a little on the raunchy side.
Your “liberty” sounds more like authoritarianism Pogo.
Extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice.
And moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue.
