Attorney Matt McLaughlin, an attorney in Huntington Beach, California, is facing a call for disbarment after he filed for a statewide resolution that would legalize the execution of gay people and make it a crime to support gay rights in the state. Anyone can file such papers and, for just $200, force the attorney general to prepare a title and a summary for the proposed new law. The question is whether this despicable act can or should be used for a bar action as conduct that shows that he is not of “good moral character.”
The 2016 initiative, named the “Sodomite Suppression Act”, is awaiting further review by the office of the state attorney general, Kamala Harris, and would mandate “any person who willingly touches another person of the same gender for purposes of sexual gratification be put to death by bullets to the head, or by any other convenient method.” It would also make it a crime to support gay rights, punishable by a $1 million fine and up to 10 years in prison (as well as expulsion from the state). It would also make it illegal to distribute “sodomistic propaganda” to “any person under the age of majority”. Furthermore, being a “sodomite” or distributing “sodomistic propaganda” would disqualify a resident from serving in public office or public employment and from enjoying any public benefit. McLaughlin stated in his proposal that it is “better that offenders should die rather than that all of us should be killed by God’s just wrath”. Suffice it to say, McLaughlin has some serious issues as well as a serious need for psychoanalysis.
However, what he did was the exercise of a legal action with the political system. There is an ironic twist to the notion of his claims of morality being used to establish that he is not of “good moral character.” We have faced this type of issue before. If an attorney does not engage in discriminatory or hateful treatment of clients or witnesses, should he be punished for his political or moral views? I tend to be leery of speech being the basis for criminal or bar sanctions because it is difficult to see where to draw the line. There are many attorneys who engage in political speech as individuals that is deemed insulting to different races or genders.
State senator Ricardo Lara and others have filed a formal complaint with the state bar. It is not clear if any proceeding would bring up past controversies with McLaughlin, including his 2004 proposed initiative to add the King James Bible as a textbook in California public schools. Once again, such efforts are taken in his capacity as a citizen within the political system.

Seriously, regarding the whole “race” thing, are you aware that the Human Genome Project has established that, genetically speaking, “races” are indistinguishable? Biologically, “different races” is a null concept. There is only one race, the human race.

We’re all bisexual anatomically, hormonally, and psychologically, after all, we just don’t all have sexual intercourse with members of both genders. We all have male and female psychological traits, such as being caring and nurturing, etc. We all have both male and female hormones (testosterone and estrogen), we all have breasts and nipples, the penis and the clitoris are homologous organs, as are the labia and the scrotum. SF: FWIW, my BFF Fabia Sheen, Esq., an attorney, and I have considered getting married. We are not Lesbians. Fabia in fact, always has a least one man on the hook all the time. And I have been celibate for a few years, and plan on staying that way. Sex is not the last thing on my mind, but it is pretty near the bottom. But it seems we would save over $4,500 per year between us in taxes if we got married and pretended to be lesbians. And who know, or care???

KR: I conscientiously eschew labeling people, because labels inhibit our thinking by implying that people are locked into certain beliefs or positions, and that one can therefore approve of or condemn them as though they are incapable of changing their minds.
On the other hand, to get along at all in the world, I have to recognize certain patterns of thought and behavior that are conducive to either unifying or dividing people. Homophobia is strongly divisive, and though I’m confident that you can eventually put it aside, and therefore decline to call you a “homophobe,” there’s little if any doubt that you’re suffering from homophobia, an irrational animus toward people who don’t share your conscious sexual orientation, but who cannot harm you in any way with that orientation.
I don’t know how consciously interested you are in psychology, but you may want to look up “reaction formation.” Doing so may help you gain some insight into why you feel so strongly negative about same-sex attraction and behavior.
I suggest this sincerely and sympathetically.

That is a fair enough answer however, do I have your attention now?
There is a great Animus on this blog in the Progressive Wing against the Christian Church. If you are Christian and mention you practice it and are trying to bring the blacks together and suffer because of homophobes – you are ignored unless you join with the Progressive wing in all of their thoughts words and deeds even if you are independent in that way.
To be fair, Inga was watching when I fought for the gay couple in Seattle and was called morally relative because I believed Jesus loved everyone. I had a religious experience and shared it and was jeered at.
I don’t care. But I am angry about our Churches receiving hate mail because the Presbyterian Church USA changed the wording ” The new wording, which replaces “between a woman and a man,” takes effect June 21.”
Four Churches were threatened to be burned to the ground in Southeast Missouri and mine was one of them.

I recall here in CA a measure that would require labelling of GMOs was beaten when Monsanto funded a campaign against it. The people who created the measure had no budget, apparently, so there was no advertising explaining its purpose was to label GMOs. The opposition called it a “food labeling scheme” that would increase the cost of food. It was utter bunk. Food labeling requirements are updated all the time already. Labelling allows consumers to make their own choices about whether or not to consume GMOs.
