We have another case of a man fired for obnoxious conduct outside of his workplace. While we recently discussed this issue with regard to academics, it is increasing common for private employers to fire people who make themselves notorious with thuggish or insulting conduct in public. The latest is Shawn Simoes, who appears to have the mentality of a three year old and taunted a female report with a disgusting sexually explicit heckle on television. He was an engineer with Hydro One, which fired him after the scene was posted outside of BMO Field.
Reporter Shauna Hunt was surrounded by a group of juvenile men who seemed to wait to get the insult on the air. They wanted to embarrass Hunt by using FHRITP, which stands for “f–k her right in the p—y.” The two men speaking with Hunt actually laugh which is equally disgusting. Hunt says that two men “in a row” shouted the offensive phrase while passing by and “I could hear these other guys conspiring to do it,” Hunt added.
Hunt then confronted the group of men in a wonderfully balanced but firm way. One of the men however then proceeds to explain how using the vulgar expression is incredibly funny. “It is f——- hilarious … it’s f—— amazing, and I respect it.”
He later sent an apology to Hunt though I find it bizarre that a grown man would have to be confronted in public to suddenly realize that he is a thug with a toddler’s mentality.
His company did not like the exposure and fired him. There is of course a difference with the Duke and Boston University professors who were voicing their views of race relations and social issues. Having an employee espousing the value to degrading women with vulgarity expressions presents a different issue for a company that has hired employees to perform specific engineering or business tasks.
As we discussed recently, people who achieve such infamy on social media tend to find that their reputation can follow them with devastating consequences as in the case of Adam Smith.
It is encouraging that the team is planning to take action against all of the men but it is only considering a ban for a year. Why not just ban the men entirely? That could only be a net benefit to every other fan and send a message that boorish thugs should stay home and watch on television where they act like total morons in private.
I honestly cannot even imagine why these men — at least six in number — think that such an insult is so funny. It reflects a sad reality about the upbringing and values of too many people — not just in the treatment of women but basic civil conduct.
Old nurse and Jill too. Strong women.
Pogo,
My daughter played competitive soccer in grade school, high school, and college. My step-granddaughter plays both competitive soccer and basketball. She’s twelve. Boys her age also play competitive sports around these parts.

If I wanted to understand Christianity, for example, I would not seek out books or literature written by Rev. Wright. I find him to be outside the scope of sane and rational religious leaders, so I would, instead, search for the writings of more balanced and mainstream Christian leaders. The same is true for so-called feminist leaders. Why choose to only quote from the most extreme and abnormal in the feminist movement? They represent feminism the same way that Rev. Wright represents mainstream Christian theology.
It reminds me of the story of the blind man asked to describe an elephant. When he felt the trunk, he believed that an elephant was long and round. When he felt the ears, he then thought that an elephant was thin and flat.
Perspective is reality. It’s not about being behind in the times. It’s about using and incorporating the best, while disregarding the fringe and extreme.
Bettykath, Elaine, SWM, Blouise and other women who used to comment here often are also wonderful representatives of feminism. Female commenters here have had to contend with misogynists who have had the run of the place, I think things may have changed a bit, we’ll see.
There are a couple women here who constantly say I don’t like strong women. I have been married to a strong woman that would eat them for lunch. I don’t like bossy, controlling, insecure, man hating women. But I married a strong woman[38 years] and helped raise a strong woman as well. I had someone here, write an email to my wife telling her she needed “to control me.” That says it all. LOL.
BamBam a conservative woman, is a wonderful representative of feminism.
Men with a strong sense of self esteem are not threatened by feminism.
Inga – I am not threatened by feminism but I did just about punch one out at a conference one time. Every sentence she spoke had some feminist meme attached to it.
Then there are the man haters that will go unnamed.
DBQ represents the positive feminist. So does KarenS, Squeeky and a few others. Where is Squeek?

Without women’s empowerment, this is the sort of society that dominates.
Pogo, The REAL Hillary was the quote back in the 1992 election, “I could have stayed home and baked cookies” her voice dripping w/ derision and elitism. A moment of honesty.
Wanting to live in a society where men and women have equal opportunities, based upon merit and qualifications, is not such a nasty aspiration. This does not include displacing qualified individuals with others, lacking in education or talent, of an opposite gender.
You realize that you just describe Affirmative Action, don’t you? Substitute race for gender and that is the EXACT definition.
Look. My Grandmother owned and ran a small town newspaper in the 1920′ and 1930’s . Ferguson, Mo to be exact. She was the boss, did the work including manning (or womaning) the press and had employees. My mother was a Union Printer along with my father in that trade. She was one of very very few women in that industry and was one of the top Linotype operators around and later Teletype. She worked all during my youth and I am proud of her accomplishments. Neither one of them would have dreamed of trying to depress men or complain about the Patriarchy or consider men to be their enemies. They were strong, capable AND feminine women.
I myself spent over 20 years in what is considered a “man’s” occupation. One that is very competitive and cut throat. Did I ever experience sexism. Maybe…..probably……I was too busy making a career and being a success to notice OR to even care.
Men are not my enemy. My success does not need to come at the expense of other people. This is what is wrong with current feminism….the demonizing and suppression of men as well as the denigration of women who do not have career goals and would rather be a wife and mother. This is what is wrong with Progressives as well, the idea that one person’s success is taking away something from someone else.
Back to the video and the story that started this. If you want to create enemies, demonize men as modern man hating feminists do NOT be surprised when there is push back. You can’t continually slap someone in the face as feminists want to do and not expect to be punched in the nose in response.
Bam bam, that is correct.
And it’s not a result of feminism as you’d claimed.
There are righteous feminists and good aspects of feminism. The righteous feminist loves women, she doesn’t hate men. It freed women up sexually so they could be the assertive partner when they felt like it. The good aspects of feminism are women being able to play all sports although Title9 has had some bad consequences. I coached Little League Baseball the first year girls were allowed. I let it be known I supported that in the coaches, drafting players meeting. I ended up w/ all 5 girls who signed up, LOL. Women can work jobs that were formerly only men’s jobs. The very positive influence of women being docs is something I have mentioned frequently. There are other aspects. Camille Paglia, a woman I reference often, represents the positive feminist.
The dark side of feminism I have touched on. Denying science is a big one. The women who really aren’t pro female but anti-male. The man hating feminists took over the movement in the 80’s and pretty much turned off the following generations. Gloria Steinem represents the man hating feminist.
Nick – women became full sexual partners when the pill came out. It was the 60s with sex, drugs and rock n roll.
“true feminism is the freedom to become your potential, unencumbered by any limitations imposed by society’s view of one’s proper place.”
Unless you want to be a mom.
Recently a New York Times writer named Wednesday Martin had a sexist hit piece about Upper East Side women she demeaningly referred to as Glam SAHMs (Stay At Home Moms).
Poor Little Rich Women.
“he wives of the masters of the universe, I learned, are a lot like mistresses — dependent and comparatively disempowered. Just sensing the disequilibrium, the abyss that separates her version of power from her man’s, might keep a thinking woman up at night.“

Those freedoms aren’t part of Western Civilization by happenstance. Those freedoms and opportunities, which didn’t magically materialize, have been achieved through a series of struggles and battles. Yes, Western Civilization, with all of its inherent benefits, has been the place where these freedoms have been given the chance to flourish. Our founding fathers may have set the stages for these freedoms, but there is a time when theory meets reality. Our history is full of examples of people having to fight, and sometimes die, for the freedoms bestowed upon citizens.
DBQ, Living in the insular, liberal enclave of the Peoples Republic of Massachusetts is akin to living under a rock.
Here’s a typical modern feminist on Twitter:
Lindsay King-Miller @AskAQueerChick
“Just because I’m a feminist doesn’t mean I “hate all men” indiscriminately. Every individual man is loathsome in his own unique way.”
Bam bam, you’re way behind the times.
“Wanting to live in a society where men and women have equal opportunities, based upon merit and qualifications, is not such a nasty aspiration. ”
That’s nice, but that’s Western Civilization; it isn’t feminism as taught on most college campuses.
The book I posted above is a good synopsis of the dominant thinking in feminsim.
Annie
Minorities, gender discrimination, lack of equality for any reason equals the same result. The essence of the problem is based on the status quo. In many locations the minority is the majority. With male female it is, as with the other discriminations, slowly changing for the better. The push against the status quo goes to extremes from time to time. However those extremes are nothing compared to the extremes of bias, racism, and bigotry that push the other way.
