Ultra Orthodox Man Stabs Six At Jerusalem Gay Rights Parade

israel1Yishai Schlissel, an ultra-Orthodox Jewish man, stabbed six marchers in the annual Gay Pride Parade in Jerusalem. What is equally disturbing is that Schlissel was just released after serving 10 years for stabbing participants in the Gay Pride Parade in 2005. Schlissel immediately demanded a court held in accordance with Jewish law, a request which was denied.

Schlissel left two people in serious condition.

A decade ago, he wounded three marchers not far from the spot of his most recent attack. He was only released a month ago — a testament to his fanatical hatred of homosexuals and extreme religious beliefs. He explained to police that as a faithful Jew he had come “to kill in the name of God.” He was released from prison a month ago.

Orthodox Jews have long targeted Gay Pride marches for protests, though recently in New York the community actually hired Latino men to dress them up as Orthodox Jews to protest for them. An ultra-Orthodox news website referred to the Jerusalem Gay Pride Parade on Thursday as “the Parade of Abomination.” Muslim and Christian groups also denounced the parade.

After stabbing his victims, Schlissel reportedly told people to get out of the way so he could escape.

Notably, the Orthodox community did not appear to shun Schlissel. Instead, he was interviewed on an ultra-Orthodox radio service nearly two weeks ago, and he used the occasion to assure fellow Ultra-Orthodox believers that “The battle is not over. Those unclean people want to continue defiling Jerusalem.” He also insisted that people must go to confront the people in the parade and that the goal must be “to disperse them, even by force.” None of that appears to have led the government to put him under surveillance or cause other Ultra-Orthodox Jews to call the police. Those are questions that are now being asked by many.

  1. Blasphemous to Dog. This guy needs treatment. Those who think gays are blasphmeous to God need treatment. Mental health treatment. Shock treatment. Ultrasound to the brain.

    1. BarkinDog – oddly enough the psychiatric community was on the same side as this young man. As was about 90% of the population.

  2. This man obviously does not like gays and has taken his dislike to extreme measures.

I have to agree that gay rights parades are blasphemous to God. I hope that Israel adheres to their following of God and not allow this group of people to ruin their nation as we have allowed them to take over ours.

  3. Maybe he should be moved to a psych ward in Gaza. He needs a psych ward. He made a statement when arrested last time. “The first thing we need to do is round up all the gay people.”
His jailer said: “I wasn’t a gay person so I did not object.”
It goes on from there. Google Martin Niemoeller.

  4. And since we are talking about comments from the Palestinians, why not show some fairness and show the evidence from the other side?
    Here we go:
I sure do hope, unlike usual, that you, Mullah Karen, will take the time to respond to this and not disappear when challenged. Will you please? Please?
And in light of the fact that just today a terrorist attack by settlers on civilians in the west bank claimed the life of one 18 months old baby, you should be ashamed of yourself.

    9. David Ben Gurion (the first Israeli Prime Minister): “If I were an Arab leader, I would never sign an agreement with Israel. It is normal; we have taken their country. It is true God promised it to us, but how could that interest them? Our God is not theirs. There has been Anti – Semitism, the Nazis, Hitler, Auschwitz, but was that their fault ? [I] tend to support the latter view and have an additional argument:…the need to sustain the character of the state which will henceforth be Jewish…with a non-Jewish minority limited to 15 percent. 23. “Spirit the penniless population across the frontier by denying it employment… Both the process of expropriation and the removal of the poor must be carried out discreetly and circumspectly.” Theodore Herzl, founder of the World Zionist Organization, speaking of the Arabs of Palestine,Complete Diaries, June 12, 1895 entry.

  5. Mullah, here is one small letter that’s worth its weight in gold. It undermines everything you said above, and more, read it and spend the next week trying to come up with something that challenges it.
Better yet, do as you usually do when pinned, you forget to address those points.
    http://mondoweiss.net/2013/10/terrorists-catastrophe-palestine

Know what , let me quote its content:

    “Dear Sir:
When a real and final catastrophe should befall us in PALESTINE, the first responsible for it would be the British and the second responsible for it the Terrorist organizations build up from our own ranks.
I am not willing to see anybody associated with those misled and criminal people.
    Sincerely yours,
    Albert Einstein.”

  6. “A Fatah member of Palestinian parliament, Najat Abu Bakr, told PA TV that the PA supports and adopts the “stages plan.” To the world, the PA claims that the Palestinians seek the West Bank and Gaza Strip, when in fact the goal is all of Israel: “It doesn’t mean that we don’t want the 1948 borders, but in our current political program we say we want a state on the 1967 borders.” [PA TV (Fatah), Aug. 25, 2008]

Fatah Central Committee member Abbas Zaki reiterated this position on Al-Jazeera TV:
“It is impossible to realize the inspiring idea or the great goal in one stroke… Israel will come to an end… If I say that I want to remove it from existence, this will be great, great, [but] it is hard. This is not a [stated] policy. You can’t say it to the world. You can say it to yourself.” [Al-Jazeera TV, Sept. 23, 2011]”

“the newest PA schoolbooks teach that “Palestine will be liberated by its men, its women, its young ones and its elderly.” [Arabic Language and the Science of Language, grade 12, p. 44]”

Palestinians indoctrinate their kids on the destruction of Israel, too:

On a wall painting at the PA Ministry of Education’s Al-Karameh school in the West Bank is a map labeled “Palestine” that includes the PA areas and all of Israel. The Palestinian flag is flying from the center of the map, symbolizing future political sovereignty over what is now Israel. On it is written “On this land is something worth living for” (Song by Mahmoud Darwish, Palestinian national poet).

So don’t believe the line the PA tries to feed the world that they just want to get along with Israel.

  7. So right Max, maybe Nick was busy elsewhere, otherwise Obama would have taken the blame for this…as well for everything else.

Funny, me think, that the rabid lot couldn’t help themselves. It was in Israel, by an israeli, in the name of judaism, and unavoidably, it became about islam and…yes shariah law (thank you Mullah Karen!)

Rick, have we met in another life?
Based on the level of antipathy you display towards me, friend, I musta stolen your girlfriend or kicked your dog! Look, I really, really want to indulge your ranting, but could you just, for once, make an argument that does not, simultaneously undermine itself?
For someone who is always right, you are sure unable to make a solid case for it. I’ll give you another try at it. Go ahead.

  8. Old Nurse:

“Palestine” was never a country; it was a region. The Arab portion is now Jordan. The vast majority of “Palestinians” were actually nomadic Arabs who arrived when the British started building the Jewish Holy Land. They came for the jobs but they fought the actual formation of a non-Muslim country in the Middle East.

The Palestinian Authority and the Muslim Brotherhood have emphatically stated that their ultimate goal is the destruction of Israel. They will never stop until they achieve that goal, which is why all these years of diplomacy have always failed. The Middle East will never accept a non Muslim country. Ceding more land will make Israel reachable by surface missiles. It’s actually already a very tiny country.

When Israel bombs terrorist targets, they drop leaflets urging civilians to evacuate. The PA urges them to stay to maximize casualties. They hide their weapons in hospitals and schools.

Look at how we’ve reacted to the deadly church shooting, 9/11, and Fort Hood. We’ve been shocked and traumatized. That’s just life in Israel. People plow their cars into bus stops to kill Israeli women and children. They blow up markets. Blow up buses. And the world condemns Israel for fighting for its survival against the terrorists who quite openly call for their destruction. Every single one of its neighbors openly calls for its destruction. Iran is building its nuclear program, and it dictates that elementary age children open their school day chanting “Death to America! Death to Israel!”

The entire Arab world would go literally insane if anyone dared bomb Mecca. They would kill the perpetrators and anyone who shook their hand and not worry about the world’s opinion. Heck, some become homicidal maniacs if you draw a cartoon of the Prophet. Israel is Mecca to the Jews, but terrorists bomb it all the time. But Israel depends on its allies to help it survive the 360 degree hostility of its ME neighbors, so it does care about global opinion.

It’s a shame they don’t do a summer camp where Palestinian and Israeli kids have more opportunities to make friends and broach the divide.

  9. Israel is committing suicide because it won’t end its occupation of Palestine and it won’t acknowledge its terrorism against others. That has nothing to do with Iran.

  10. Old Nurse:

Well, if they don’t, then Iran is saying, quite loudly, that they are going to wipe them out. Now they’ve declared their going to take their own soil samples for monitoring their nuclear program.

Having lived through the 80’s, when they aired “The Day After”, and kids in school were taught about the devastating effects of nuclear winter, I cannot believe we are in this position, again .

Iran says “Death to America! Death to Israel! We’re going to nuke them as soon as possible!” and we’re helping them combat sabotage against their nuclear program??? Are we suicidal?

Because who cares about global warming, losing the rain forest, poaching, or saving the whale if we’re going to cause our own nuclear winter catastrophe, similar in scale to what whipped out half of life on Earth and killed off all the dinosaurs? I might as well stop recycling right now.

  11. Lisa:

I have to wonder why anyone would argue with you or quibble semantics that Islamic law does not condemn homosexuality. It is intuitively obvious to the most casual observer that each and every single country under Islamic law considers homosexuality a capital crime, specifically applying Islamic law.

These people should not argue with you; they should argue with the governments of Saudi Arabia, Iran, et al that they are doing it wrong.

Now, I like Rabbi Shmuley’s take on homosexuality. He would counsel gay couples that they cannot meet the commandments to avoid homosexuality and procreate, but they have hundreds of commandments left that they can devote their lives to just fine.

  12. The poaching of Cecil has been all over the internet lately. His death affected me deeply, too.

I heard a very apropos comment on the radio this morning. The host said everyone, including celebrities, are shedding literal tears about this beautiful lion being poached by an American dentist. He said what good does it do to post really pretty pictures of Cecil on FB, or vent your outrage on a blog? If you really care about poaching, then actually do something about it, like donate money to any number of wildlife charities, reserves, and anti-poaching efforts.

He also pointed out that this one beautiful lion’s pointless death has united the country in a way that very serious problems in our own country seldom do. He pointed out that a 15 year old mentally ill boy just killed an 8 year old girl, a cop was just killed when he pulled someone over, and a gang member who can’t even hold a firearm properly just accidentally shot a 4 year old. But there are no celebrity tears, no joined arms across cyberspace to fix our mental health system, or support the police in breaking the gangs that cause the majority of gun violence in the US. Perhaps we are jaded by these headlines, while the novelty of the senseless killing of a beautiful rare lion can still rouse our outrage. I suppose Africans must have a similar jaded attitude in their own country for poaching.

  13. That said, Schlissel is a violent extremist, and should be locked up for the safety of the public.

  14. The difference between Israel and Saudi Arabia in regards to this kind of behavior is that Israel sends people to jail who murder or attack gays in the name of religion or any other reason; in Saudi Arabia, homosexuality is a capital crime under Islamic law, and it’s the government who kills gays just for being gay.

    This is undeniable.

  15. Extremism can be very dangerous, whether it’s religious, political, or any other source.

Max: If he was making statements indicating he would re-offend, then he should have been monitored. I don’t know what options the Israeli legal system has. That’s just terrible. And why was he released early? That’s why I don’t understand parole or time off for good behavior. There were no gay pride rallies in prison to test him, so who cares if he behaved himself while behind bars.

Was that a photo of the actual crime? Is he stabbing that woman in green in the back? That’s awful.

  16. There was another blog where I commented that had a gay guy named “Andy” who commented troll like. He too had a photo of himself wearing a hat. I hope Max isn’t bald too!

  17. He is binge eating, that usually helps w/ the symptoms when not taking meds. It’s not easy being fat and gay. Have some empathy.
