The Islamic State continued its campaign against civilization this week with the demolishment of a 1,500 year old monastery. ISIS views no religion but Islam as worthy of worship and kills non-believers as acts of true faith. ISIS has also abducted dozens of Christians and is known to sell girls as sex slaves — again claiming such rapes as acts of Islamic morality in its twisted reading of the Koran.
The bulldozing of the Saint Elian Monastery follows the execution of one of the world’s leader archeologists in Syria.
The monastery stood since the 5th Century, but was brought down by Islamic fanatics in bulldozers.
Christian priest Jacques Mourad, who lived at the monastery, is missing after being kidnapped. Mourad was renowned for sheltering both Muslim and Christian Syrians in Homs province.

I agree with Isaac. I think that European nation states are above and beyond the call of duty. Turkey is a NATO member and they are part of the problem.

All that is true and much much more. However, the West has been evolving away from that behavior and unlike the neanderthals who stake a claim to this or that god, prophet, piece of cloth, chunk of wood-might have been part of a cross or the leg of a stool, our small chunk of civilization has been evolving or progressing away from this behavior. In a time of war the so called strategists take over and intelligence and intellect is placed to the side. The world with America as its vanguard just experienced this with what caused all this to fast track, the Iraq invasion. America’s sacred self was supposedly at risk so we became ISIS for a while. Happily or perhaps less unhappily America has progressed or evolved to have its own check and balance system. We bomb the sh*t out of them and then say sorry and patch them up.
It’s not the same thing even though there are similarities. ISIS is a disease based on thuggery not religion. The religion bit is either a strategy or a perverse sense of humor. Either way it seems to be working as the rest of the spineless Islamic world is somehow condoning it and doing little if anything about it. If Islam was a real religion there would be a half million Islamic boots on the ground wiping this scum out. But hey they have the world cup to deal with right now. stevegroen – I am going to agree with you and pile on. How much damage did we do to churches and monuments. We (British actually) firebombed the beautiful city of Dresden, we (the United States) bombed the monastery of Monte Cassino into rubble, thus giving the Germans a lot more cover and prolonging the Italian campaign. And how much looting did we (US armed forces)? It was just the Germans who were racing across Europe finding the best art, we did our part.
They apparently haven’t figured out that an #IslamicExtremistLivesMatter campaign would totally rally support for their cause.

Tens of thousands of Americans, British, French, and other nationalities don’t join the militaries of their countries to ‘protect and serve’. It is in the blood. They join to satisfy something inside themselves, the ultimate hunt.
Here is a valid, righteous, and obviously necessary disease that needs to be wiped out. This is the perfect opportunity to satisfy the urges of the good guys by surgically wiping out the bad guys. The world needs a Foreign Legion of sorts or one for each country. It doesn’t matter, just get on with it. How much more of this before the obvious becomes more clear. When it’s about religion and tolerance there is always room to wiggle this way or that. With their destruction of historic sites and items, I’m done.
