There is a disturbing case out of Snaresbrook Crown Court in England where an Islamic studies tutor raped his 14-year-old pupil and left her pregnant. Mohammed Islam, 31, reportedly started molesting the schoolgirl in 2010 when she was just nine while teaching her the Koran. He has been sentenced to 19 years.
The girl said that the religious position of the teacher left her without a way out of the abuse. For his part, Mohammad Islam said that the nine year old initiated the sex. He only admitted to the rape when the girl decided that she would testify against him. She also delayed an abortion so that tests could show that Islam was the father.
What is a bit chilling is the statement of the father who offered a victim impact statement that “In our religion she is no longer considered a virgin and is therefore unable or unlikely to get married to have a family.” That would seriously make me reconsider the sect within a religion that I am following.
Islam admitted to rape, four counts of sexually assaulting a child and two of sexual activity with a child.
The 19 year sentence may seem a bit low to some but it is on the high end for England where sentences tend to be lower generally. Notably, however, a Christian priest this week with the Salvation Army in India was given 40 years for raping a 12-year-old in church over the course of two months.
I have often wondered if this hyper vigilance about keeping women sequestered, bundled up, covered, and hidden away produces men with poor self control.
Sick. I’m glad he got put away, but I grieve for the girl. She has an additional handicap living in a family that clearly views her as “less than”, as a victim of a sexual predator. What kind of pressure will she face to commit suicide, with her family clearly and openly predicting she will have no family of her own? No standing in the community?

Heck, what we currently call “pedophilia” was also endorsed by early Jewish religious texts, and may still be for all I know. But I am not aware that it is widely practiced by Jews anywhere. And if somebody in Israel did it, I bet they would find themselves in the slammer. Here is a link to an article I just found which provides copies of the texts. Let’s see, little girls of age 3 can have sex with the Rabbis and priests??? Little boys under nine years of age??? Hmmm.
Like I said, I am hardly pro-Muslim, and certainly not anti-semitic because I have a good dose of Jew blood in me, but in all fairness to them, just finding something in the Koran doesn’t mean that Muslims the world over are practicing it. Some of the Fundamentalist type Muslims may be doing it. But heck, even my Bible says that homos are an abomination and should be killed. BUT, we all kind of ignore it, and the only people killing large numbers of American gay men are other American gay men whose org*sm is sooo important that they can’t be bothered to get an HIV test or wear a condom.
All that being said, I think England has been ignoring this kind of crap for year exactly because they are associating it with Islam, and they should not have. Screw the Koran, if you rape a kid, you rape a kid and your a$$ ought to be in jail, or dead, Period.
