The video below has left me speechless as a mother first leaves a young child to beat down another woman in the mall and then attacks her again while pushing the stroller (then abandoning the child again to continue the fight). The fight was over claims made in a double murder homicide in Florida.

For two years, Liam Allan, 22, lived in fear after he was accused of 12 rapes and assaults by a woman. He was facing 20 in jail and put his life on hold as he insisted that he was innocent. What he did not know until recently was the police in England had possession of 40,000 messages from his accuser, including messages asking him for “casual sex.” Three days after the disclosure, all charges were dropped. Allan is now suing the Metropolitan Police.
We previously discussed a controversy involving porn found on the computer of Alex Kozinski, then the Chief Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. He was later cleared of misconduct but admonished over his conduct. Recently, however, Kozinski was accused of sexual harassment and improper touchings by over nine more women. Formal charges were brought against Kozinski and an investigation launched. Kozinski has now resigned from the court. It was the correct decision for himself, the alleged victims, and the court given these very serious and disturbing allegations from former clerks. The sheer number of women and the pattern described in their accounts made the allegations quite compelling. The decision is a sad conlusion for some of the most accomplished judicial careers on courts. Kozinski, who I have known for many years and has been to my class at George Washington University, was the best known libertarian on the bench. At 67, he could have had over a decade of additional opinions and impact, but his inappropriate conduct prematurely ended a brilliant career.

CNN guest commentator Hilary Rosen has long been something of a live wire on television as when she attacked the wife of Mitt Romney — comments that David Axelrod called “offensive” and President Obama apologized for during the campaign. She has been criticized for her sometimes no-holds-barred approach to advocacy for Democrats. We had such an exchange on NPR where she was quick to take offense as a lesbian to a discussion on Hillary Clinton’s record. She is again in the midst of a controversy and could well be sued for defamation (though I think such a lawsuit would be unwarranted). Rosen (who is Jewish) went on social media to condemn Georgetown student Michael Bakan as an anti-Semitic after he appears in a bacon outfit in this picture. She appears to have missed the fact that his name resembles (and is pronounced) “Bacon.”
I previously praised the position of my alma mater, The University of Chicago, in refusing to limit free speech with the creation of safe spaces and speech codes. Indeed, the courageous position of UChicago stood in sharp contrast to the troubling position of my other alma mater, Northwestern University (which has only grown more hostile to both free speech and academic freedom). Now, Northwest Vista College president Ric Baser has declared himself squarely on the speech regulation side of academia with a chilling rejection of a broad array of speech as hate speech, including words that “spread” or “provoke” or “create” “animosity and hostility.” Baser’s San Antonio Express-News op-ed titled “Hate speech does not equal free speech shows not only a disturbing lack of understanding of constitutionally protected speech but an intolerance for the speech of those with which he disagrees. Baser’s disturbing comments are part of a letter signed with 12 other members of the Higher Education Council of San Antonio, a group that he heads as president, which include the presidents of other colleges and universities.
We recently discussed the outrage over a woman getting four-months probation for laughing at the torture of a defenseless, disabled man and posting this crime on social media. We have yet another absurd sentencing.
In Wisconsin, Richard A. Root, 21, was given six months in jail and seven years of probation after beating his 2-month-old daughter. He broke more than 20 of the infant’s bones and caused bleeding in her brain. Six months.
There is a rumor of more members being axed in the coming week over sexual harassment as Washington prepares for the final tax vote. Ok, it was just an excuse to show this incredible picture from a Leningrad gas mask drill in 1939.
We have another stolen valor controversy this week, a subject that I have written a great deal about in prior postings and columns. Frauds will often go to extraordinary lengths to construct a false record and appearance. Many are pathetically transparent. Papotia Reginald Wright is one of the latter group. He pretended to be a green beret but did not have the energy apparently to get an actually green beret.

We have often discussed how felons guilty of cruelty to animals are often given light sentences. An exception is Hykeem Dontavious Jabar Golson, who will rightfully spend years in jail for burning his girlfriend’s dog alive in a church parking lot. Golson was was sentenced to five years in prison for the 2016 crime (in addition to a $5000 fine). He received the maximum sentence under South Carolina law — only the second person to ever receive the maximum sentence.
As many on this blog know, I am a fan of good architecture. My father was one of the proteges and students of Mies Van der Rohe and I was raised in the Chicago circle of architects. Thus, when I heard that we were building a new embassy in London, I was truly hopeful of a unique American contribution that celebrated the history and architecture of London. Yet, in what seems a long-simmering payback for Bunker Hill (and perhaps Benny Hill), the United States just dumped a $1 billion blemish on the landscape of London. Given Prince Charles’ long (and justified) complaint of “monstrous carbuncles,” we just added a new and giant carbuncle for our English cousins.
Below is my column in USA Today on the last remaining promise for Roy Moore to fulfill from his campaign: his promised defamation lawsuit. Unless he and his lawyers were using the pledge to sue as a deflection from the merits of the allegations, it is time for Moore to make good on the promise and file. Of course, that will subject him to depositions and discovery but, if he is telling the truth, he has little to fear. In the meantime, I discussed how Gloria Allred suggested that her client will also sue for defamation. That would also be welcomed, though Allred will have to significantly improve her legal performance for an actual lawsuit as opposed to her disastrous press conference. Beverly Young Nelson has said that the lawsuit will definitely happen.

Even if Mr. Bumble in Oliver Twist is right that “law is an ass,” it can at least be a romantic ass. While Bumble was upset at the statement of the court that “…the law supposes that your wife acts under your direction.” However, a 54-year-old man found a uniquely sensitive jurist in a Dublin court where a judge excused him from jury duty to pursue “the love of his life.”

Lal Singh Arya, 53, is the minister for happiness in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. He is also a suspect in a murder and is now believed to be on the lam as police search for him. The victim is an opposition politician who was killed in 2009.

A Connecticut man is recovering after he was thrown off a bridge on Thanksgiving after he intervened to protect a woman in an argument with her boyfriend. The victim and his friend told Gregory Rottjer (left) to “chill out” and allegedly Rottjer and his friend Matthew Dorso became enraged. Rottjer then threw the Good Samaritan off the Derby-Shelton Bridge — a 45 foot plunge that almost killed him. What is unbelievable is that the woman, Jennifer Hannum, was also charged in the case in resisting one of the officers who came to find her boyfriend.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) has rightfully filed a police complaint over a fake sexual harassment complaint against him, including the forged signature of a former aide. This is a vicious attack on Schumer that vividly illustrates the hatefilled madness that has taken so many citizens on both the left and the right in today’s poisonous political environment. I am heartened by the filing. Finding the culprit or culprits behind this fake complaint would take a small but meaningful step to bringing a element of responsibility back to our political discourse.
