Pelosi Declares That The “Enemy Is Within The House of Representatives” In Call For More Security

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has been attacking Republicans members as traitors in a continuation of the reckless rhetoric from the last four years on both sides. Despite a desire for greater unity from voters, Pelosi has sought to capitalize on rather than close those divisions  while other Democrats are calling for blacklists and retaliatory measures. The Speaker has now doubled down on these attacks by claiming that the need to increase security is due in no small degree to the “enemy within” in reference to the Republican ranks. As with her prior conduct as Speaker, Pelosi continues to refuse to recognize any obligation to the institution in seeking consensus and reconciliation.

Pelosi declared on Thursday that there is an obvious need for a “supplemental [budget] for more security for members when the enemy is within the House of Representatives — a threat that members are concerned about in addition to what is happening outside.”

Such language obviously thrills many who want to portray any opposing voices as traitors and seditionists. It has been rhetoric building for years as the more leaders and academics engage in the politics of personal destruction. The idea is to avoid responding to actual positions by labeling the opposition as actual traitors, criminals, and threats. It is the very signature of this age of rage in American politics.

The members are legitimately debating the issue of members carrying permitted weapons in Congress or on the House floor. Pelosi made direct reference to one such member. There has also been criticism of a member, Rep. Greene, for her inflammatory statements on social media. Far enough.  Those issues can be addressed and Republicans have denounced Rep. Greene. However, even when confronted by reckless accusations against a member who was reportedly showing her own family around the Congress, Pelosi has doubled down on the rhetoric of treason in reference to Republicans generally. It precisely the type of rhetoric that many of us condemned when used by former President Donald Trump.

I have commended President Biden for his statements about the need to end the language of division and personal recrimination. Recently, he repeated that call and said that politicians need to “eliminate the vitriol” and stop that “the ad hominem attacks on one another.” He objected to people who “make anything that you disagree with about the other person’s personality, or their lack of integrity, or they’re not decent legislators, and the like. So we have to get rid of that.”

I like the demeanor of Biden as president. However, as the President was making those comments, Speaker Pelosi was engaging in the very vitriolic language that he condemned. It will not end unless Biden calls out people in his own party and demands a lowering of such rhetoric. His words continue to be drowned out by the words of his own party’s leadership.

  1. Professor Turley, I too notice an attempt by Biden to be presidential. I have trouble reconciling his current approach to his pronouncements in the past such as “Their going to put you all back in chains” or “If you don’t vote for me you ain’t black”. Only one of two explanations can apply. The first explanation would be that he is captured by systemic deceit. The second explanation would be that he is in the thralls of a split personality. Good Joe constantly fighting with bad Joe. A blessing of God on the nation should be prayed for now more than ever.

    1. Another possible explanation is that he is reading from a script. He was reading from note cards as he was signing Executive Orders. The incongruity between what he is doing and what he is saying is striking!

  2. The most egregious item is the failure of the DOJ and FBI to ignore and not diaclose and prosecute the DT coup attempters. Seems it originated mostly in “the meeting” of which it was reported Obama and Biden were also in attenance. Obama saying “do it by the book”. . The rule of law is applicable now only as when they chose to apply it

Joe Biden is no more a unifier than a rope of Fly catching tape. Joe biden is no more than an empty shell blathering unify. He can talk a great game but his intentions are just the opposite. If the FBI would release the findings of the Hunter Biden (laptop hard drive findings), so-called Business receipts from China and Ukraine sources, and the foreign shell busiesses that the funds traversed through and the final placement in the banks, I would wager that Joe Biden had funds hitting his BK acts. Biden is a demented by age fossil, and Kam will be president within the next 6-8 months.
The Washington Post has further proven where their loyalties lie by letting it slip that they will not report on any of Joe Biden’s false claims, exaggerations, missteps, or even outright lies.

In fact, it appears they won’t cover the alleged illegal activities of Hunter Biden and other members in the Biden crime family either.

The Daily Caller put the Washington Post on the record – there will be no “False & Misleading Claims” count for President Joe Biden.

The Post says it does “not have plans to launch a Biden database at this time.”

Yet Trump’s “fact checking” database was launched one month after he became president, according to Shani George, the Post’s communications director.

Of course, this should come as no surprise, there was no “False & Misleading Statements” count for Barack Obama and there wouldn’t have been one for Hillary Clinton had she won.

  3. You never cease to amaze me, Turley. Of course, as a paid employee of the GOP, your criticism is entirely focused on Nancy Pelosi, as if she and her “reckless rhetoric” against “opposing voices” are the problem here. Because I, following the lead of Chris Cuomo, refuse to lend publicity to her name (because that’s precisely what she wants), that Q-Anon ignoramus cracker from Georgia will remain nameless, but consider this: she did post a “like” to a comment about putting a bullet into Pelosi’s head. (She’s tried to conceal other posts, but they never completely go away). She posed with an assault rifle in campaign ads. She also chased a kid who survived a school shooting down the street, accusing him of waving a “false flag” in opposing gun violence, and proudly announced that she always carries a gun. This poor excuse for human life also wears a face mask that reads: “Trump Won”. It goes without saying that she is a Republican obligatory bottle blondie. What is shocking is that Republicans refuse to speak out against her.

Turley claims: “Pelosi continues to refuse to recognize any obligation to the institution in seeking consensus and reconciliation.” What about the obligation of this ignorant woman to the institution of Congress, starting with stopping the lying about Trump wining the election? How about Republicans, including Hawley, McConnell and McCarthy and their obligation to the institution? All Republicans see is an effort to tap into support from 40 million voters by continuing to support the Trump lie, instead of telling the truth. This refusal to admit the truth is part of what is pulling apart this country.

What you have here is not an attempt to squelch “any opposing voices” spouting “reckless rhetoric”. This dumbass cracker is a member of Q-Anon. She is a clear and present danger to the safety of members of Congress. Publicly favoring the killing Speaker Pelosi is not simply an exercise of freedom of speech, especially from one who believes in conspiracy theories, who lies about Trump “winning” the presidency, and who proudly packs a gun like some badge of honor. She has to go. Pelosi isn’t the problem. Freedom of speech isn’t the problem. Turley is once again attempting to normalize the absurdly abnormal, but since we know he’s on the GOP payroll, what else can we expect?

    1. Natacha, Turley’s going on RNC talking points, Forget that domestic homegrown terrorist’s rushed the nations capital to overturn an election. Forget people died because of it. Forget the republican party has poured gas and tinder all over, and Trump was more than happy to light the fuse. Republican party members are carrying guns into the house floor, nothing to see there, forget it, that was the past, did you hear what Nancy said?

    2. “ignorant cracker from georgia” — how sad watching this white woman, Natch, insult her own kind, a white woman

i prefer to love, not hate, my own kind. Let me share some poetry from Goethe:

      Ein kleiner Ring
      Begrenzt unser Leben,
      Und viele Geschlechter
      Reihen sich dauernd
      An ihres Daseins
      Unendliche Kette.

      Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

a good translation of that stanza available here

      1. Equating me with that racist, ignorant, Q-Anon white trash from Georgia is the worst insult I’ve ever gotten on this site. She is not “my kind”–gender and race are all that we have in common, but are you trying to say that a white woman should not call out an ignoramus, gun-toting, lying disciple of Trump who posted a “like” to putting a bullet in Nancy Pelosi’s head merely because she is female and white?

    3. Natacha, you give equal weight to Pelosi and some women supposedly in QAnon. Nancy Pelosi’s influence is thousands of times greater than some obscure person that you have found in the darkness of the internet. Your comparison and your argument are covered with the blanket of the absurd. You conveniently forget of the history of Democrats questioning elections. Let me bring forth your memory of the declaration that Stacy Abrams in Georgia actually won the election when her lose was by over 50,000 votes. Blind again.

  4. This sure isn’t like the days when Sam Rayburn & Joe Martin would have a bourbon and branch at the end of the day or when Tip O’Niel would come over to the White House and have a Jamesons with Ronnie Reagan.

  5. At this rate, this dangerous, paranoid and unjustifiable vitriol will lead to something similar to when a pro-slavery Democrat caned abolitionist-Republican Charles Sumner.

    1. It should be obvious to all that the democrats as a group are not interested in advancing the good of the nation. Why do not the sane members of their group, if there are any, object to this shameful and slanderous disrespect to a legislative body founded to represent us as a people. It is time for term limits when Our Congressional leaders have gone rotten like food left too long in the bottom of the refrigerator.

  6. Pelosi and the squad are creating an atmosphere so toxic that bi partisan solutions may no longer be possible. Their inciteful comments are calculated atypical red meat calculated to incite violence. AOC commented this morning that Ted Cruz and Republicans tried to have her murdered three weeks ago. When does this stop?

  7. The members are legitimately debating the issue of members carrying permitted weapons in Congress or on the House floor. Pelosi made direct reference to one such member.

Does she fancy Adam Schi!! or Eric Fang-Fang-Bang Swallwell will get the Bully Brooks treatment?

  8. This woman needs a complete mental evaluation. She has obviously gone off the rails.

    1. I agree–that dumbass cracker from Georgia does need a complete mental evaluation to determine whether, after getting expelled from Congress she is safe to return to the community from which she came. That IS whom you were referring to–right?

  9. You realize that 15% of the population in Pelosi’s age range have a diagnosis of cognitive decline (or worse) due to Alzheimer’s or suspected Alzheimers. That doesn’t include those with vascular dementia, Parkinson’s, Lewy bodies, frontotemporal dementia, or progressive supranuclear palsy. The Alzheimer’s signature is that those decaying this way are commonly unaware of their impairment.

  10. I posted this previously yet it still applies today:——–Nicomachean Ethics from Book 2 _____
With regard to anger also there is an excess, a deficiency, and a mean. Although they can scarcely be said to have names, yet since we call the intermediate person good-tempered let us call the mean good temper; of the persons at the extremes let the one who exceeds be called irascible, and his vice irascibility, and the man who falls short an inirascible sort of person, and the deficiency inirascibility._____ There are three kinds of disposition, then, two of them vices, involving excess and deficiency respectively, and one a virtue, viz. the mean, and all are in a sense opposed to all; for the extreme states are contrary both to the intermediate state and to each other, and the intermediate to the extremes; as the equal is greater relatively to the less, less relatively to the greater, so the middle states are excessive relatively to the deficiencies, deficient relatively to the excesses, both in passions and in actions. For the brave man appears rash relatively to the coward, and cowardly relatively to the rash man; and similarly the temperate man appears self-indulgent relatively to the insensible man, insensible relatively to the self-indulgent, and the liberal man prodigal relatively to the mean man, mean relatively to the prodigal. Hence also the people at the extremes push the intermediate man each over to the other, and the brave man is called rash by the coward, cowardly by the rash man, and correspondingly in the other cases.

  11. Pelosi is the most destructive Speaker in the history of the Republic. The Democratic Party has no leadership or anyone with leadership. Biden can not and is unable to stand up against Pelosi or the mob. Sadly, there is only one Republican that does stand up against them now that Trump is out of the picture, and that is John Kennedy from Louisiana. Lindsey Graham will if he is pushed but that is it.

  12. As always, I’m impressed with the balance in your analysis of the situation, which is why I subscribe to your site. However, I’m very dismayed that the President himself is on board with Pelosi. I read his speech where he announced that “equity” will be the guiding principle of all the Administration’s initiatives. That means that equality of opportunity will be forsaken in favour of equality of result, and freedom of speech will be relinquished in favour of legally enforced, politically correct notions regarding diversity and inclusion. If you think Trump divided the nation, you ain’t seen nothin’ yet. Biden will divide the nation along racial, ethnic and cultural lines, and it won’t just be the extremists on the right who will have an axe to grind.

  13. Perhaps the Moonbat is thinking of Eric Swalwell and his concubine, Fang Fang the Chinese spy. Oh, never mind, he has a D after his name. He’s cool.

  14. Will someone please provide Professor Turley with an up-to-date of this old hag? one with a large mask???

  15. If Speaker Pelosi is convinced that these “enemies” exist, she should identify them by name, present her evidence and then recommend their expulsion from the House.

  16. It’s the old bait and switch Professor Turley. Biden sits there mumbling incoherently and appearing to be nothing but an incompetent fool, whilst his operatives extinguish any hope of maintaining this republic.

They told me I needed to fear Trump.

  17. If you’re not saddened and afraid of these people, you have to be either complicit or monumentally stupid.
