Report: United States Ranks Last In Media Trust

The plunging level of trust reflects the loss of the premier news organizations to a type of woke journalism. We have have been discussing how writerseditorscommentators, and academics have embraced rising calls for censorship and speech controls, including President-elect Joe Biden and his key advisers. Even journalists are leading attacks on free speech and the free press.  This includes academics rejecting the very concept of objectivity in journalism in favor of open advocacy. Columbia Journalism Dean and New Yorker writer Steve Coll has denounced how the First Amendment right to freedom of speech was being “weaponized” to protect disinformation. Likewise, the University of North Carolina recently offered an academic chair in Journalism to New York Times’ Nikole Hannah-Jones. While Hannah-Jones was awarded a Pulitzer Prize for her writing on The 1619 Project, she has been criticized for her role in purging dissenting views from the New York Times pages and embracing absurd anti-police conspiracy theories. Even waiting for the facts is viewed as unethical today by journalism professors who demand that reporters make political or social declarations through their coverage.

One of the lowest moments came with the New York Times’ mea culpa for publishing an opinion column by a conservative senator.  The New York Times was denounced by many of us for its  cringing apology after publishing a column by Sen. Tom Cotton (R, Ark.). and promising not to publish future such columns. It will not publish a column from a Republican senator on protests in the United States but it will publish columns from one of the Chinese leaders crushing protests for freedom in Hong Kong. Cotton was arguing that the use of national guard troops may be necessary to quell violent riots, noting the historical use of this option in past protests. This option was used most recently after the Capitol riot.

Almost on the one-year anniversary of its condemning its own publication of Cotton (and forcing out its own editor), the New York Times published an academic columnist who previously defended the killing of conservative protesters. Over at the Washington Post this week, the newspaper promoted a columnist,Karen Attiah, who last summer caused an outrage after she tweeted “White women are lucky that we are just calling them Karens. And not calling for revenge.”

Given this trend, it is little surprise that viewers no longer trust the media. They have watched as stories ranging from Hunter Biden to the origins of the pandemic have been aggressively censored by Big Tech and blacked out by journalists. The problem is that this echo journalism works for some in the media even if it ultimately destroys the profession as a whole. It is a journalistic version of Hardin’s Tragedy of the Commons where everyone acts for their immediate benefit as “the inherent logic of the commons remorselessly generates tragedy.”

  1. Poor Jon T. He can only whine and take issue with anything vaguely targeted at “liberal” media. Look at the global community and observe how other autocrats are disemmbling their “liberal” media for the autocrats propaganda only sources. He won’t do that, the propaganda regime of donald’s is paying him to complain.

  2. Darren says:

“And now we have news outlets that whore themselves out to serving propaganda so that true-believers have a refuge to cower within, the only reliable audience remaining to them.”

That sentence describes Fox News to the letter. Bravo! And what does it say about individuals who work for such whoring outlets? Are they not too prostitutki?

Though Turley points his finger at CNN, MSNBC, and NYT as exemplars of his journalism complaints, it is worth noting that his articles denounce the “media” generally, NEVER the “Leftwing media” particularly, nor does he EVER exclude his own Fox network specifically. Thus, I have to presume he implicitly is casting his curse upon ALL media WITHOUT exception. After all, as a loyal Fox employee, would you not expect that Turley would sing the praises of his colleagues Hannity (who refers to Joe Biden as “sippy cup” and some in the leftwing media as “stalkers”) and Carlson (who recently called General Milley a “pig” and “stupid”).

In truth, Turley NEVER mentions, much less praises, his Fox co-workers in any of his articles because he can think of nothing admirable to say about them. Likewise, he never mentions Newsmax, One America Network or Infowars. Indeed, it is not evident which news outlet, if any, Turley trusts because he has never revealed the name of any source he does. The fact that Turley never mentions any Rightwing cable outlets (in comparison to the Leftwing he does criticize) suggests that he is NOT claiming that they are any more credible than their mainstream counterparts. As a lawyer, Turley is accomplished at undermining the journalistic integrity of Fox’s competitors, but he dare not vouchsafe the journalistic credibility of Fox which he well knows is far more guilty of the malfeasance which he levels at the Left.

I have complained obsessively about Turley’s shameful silence in expressly denouncing Trump’s Big Lie. Even his friend Bill Barr recently has stated unequivocally that Trump’s election conspiracy theories were bullsh*t. Though Turley has commended Barr for not caving to Trump’s full court press to get him to investigate this nonsense, Turley himself has NEVER *explicitly* referred to the “Big Lie” in so many words in ANY of his articles (correct me if I am wrong).

All along, I had suspected that Turley purposely avoided mentioning these 2 words out of deference to Fox since it is being sued for billions for defaming Smartmatic and Dominion by spreading this canard to millions. It now occurs to me that Turley may be deposed in both lawsuits if it gets to discovery. It stands to reason that Turley would have advised Fox executives in advance of what he was prepared to opine as a matter of law as opposed to the reckless layman assertions made by the opinion hosts on whose programs he dutifully appeared. There would be no attorney/client privilege because Turley is not representing Fox as an attorney. Rather, he is but one employee of many whose testimony may yield evidence of Fox’s recklessness in promoting the Big Lie to the detriment of the plaintiffs.

Since being sued, Fox’s hosts have never again discussed the Big Lie! In fact, it did not broadcast live Trump’s recent rally in which he continued to lie about the election being stolen. Nor did the Fox prime time hosts even mention the fact that Trump repeated these lies. Fox and Turley, presumably have been instructed by counsel to keep their mouths shut completely about the election being stolen. Period. Thus, it is worth bearing in mind that Turley is not at liberty to speak freely on the subject. He must censor himself for the sake of Fox’s civil liability- so much then for his impartiality and objectivity as a legal analyst for us on this blog.

If there is anything I have said, Darren, which is mistaken, I trust you will correct me for everyone’s benefit.

      1. There are many that now know that the Big Lie was the voter fraud that went unreported. If the NYT is reporting that Trump is lying, we can feel fairly confident that the NYt is deflecting the public to look the other way because they thenselves are the real liars.

  3. I’m shocked to learn that intelligent people don’t trust the mainstream media presstitutes. After all, we have the finest presstitutes in the entire Presstitution Industry.

  4. I consider this good news!!! Can you imagine where we would be if 80% of the people actually trusted the stuff the USA media currently publishes?

    1. PaulD,

I have to hand it to you. That was one of the better outside-the-box perspectives we’ve seen here today…and succinct in its conveyance. Your lament does provoke both a foreboding of what could happen if 80% of the public was gullible enough to believe much of the American news media as unquestionably truthful, and the oddly welcoming relief that the opposite was revealed by the study to be the case.

At the very least there are more than only a few news outlets availed to the average person here, unlike many other countries without a free press. In either case open minded individuals can navigate between a Scylla of lies and the Charybdis of censorship to piece together a semblance of what is real. Of course it is more difficult when the control is total. But it is seldom complete.

Now this is completely anecdotal but in the mid-1980s I travelled to the Soviet Union and did have the opportunity to meet some of the locals who did speak English. In confidence I asked someone how people there accepted what was given to them by state controlled news such as Pravda when it seemed as though much of what was proffered bordered on being truly outlandish. She told me that most people simply learned to dismiss much of this, yet pointed out the arts, ballet, and simpler fields of reporting were actually quite good and worthwhile. I got the impression that it was the latter that constituted something redeemable about the news, so they bought it mainly for the innocuous topics. Much of my information I had access to from official Soviet sources at the time came over Radio Moscow on short wave. When I returned back to the States and listened in on the broadcasts, I could see how the Russian woman I spoke with earlier came to her views about Pravda. The general interest and cultural news from them was interesting and mostly probably credible but the geopolitical and official news was highly slanted. Despite this I still believed it was important at that time, and I suppose the same is true today, that we can at least glean a sense of “moods” from the propaganda in that it does offer a window into what the then Soviets were trying to convey and a little as to what their thinking was. If you could find irrefutable facts on a topic and armed with a good understanding at where the Soviets were coming from, if they were at least consistent in their delivery, it was possible to derive meaning or messages from behind a facade of propaganda. And given the level of mistrust and contention between our countries at that time I think it was quite important to at least know what their intentions or fears were.

This is not to excuse the current level of brokenness manifest with most American news media. There are many forces at play resulting in what we suffer today; few are excusable and nearly all are correctable. What we lack is sufficient motivation to restore general credibility on both the consumer and supplier side of the news. Too many people insist on being entertained or reinforced in their political beliefs rather than being informed.

      1. Darren, I agree that censorious news sources can still offer some value, but news sources that are flat-out lying cancel out honest reportage. It usually takes too long for the public to sort out the lies from truth. Clicks only reward these scofflaws with eyeballs for advertising, even if the clicks are to post angry comments.

For instance, I never read Yahoo articles anymore. Pure clickbait garbage. Maybe if enough people stop taking the bait, Yahoo will be forced clean up their act or go out of business.

Imagine if the Russians could have put the communist party out of business by just ignoring it, but state media is another matter.

        1. And Yahoo might become the state media if we don’t put their ilk out of business soon.

        2. Diogenes,

One only has to contrast what Yahoo was in 2008 to what it became today in terms of membership to assess its credibility as you describe. Sad it is that clicks generate revenue regardless of the quality of the content then delivered.

I had an article several years ago concerning a man who was publicly acosted by a cringe-worthy SJW. (The Hugh Mungus affair out of Seattle).
https://jonathanturley.org/2016/11/12/hugh-mungus-social-justice-warrior-fail-nets-man-140000/ The man she tried to publicly humiliate had some health challenges and sympathetic donors hosted a GoFundMe page that earned him over a 140 grand. The shrew herself attempted to capitalize on her attempt to play the victim in the resulting backlash by setting up her own donation page, which failed miserably. It paled by comparison in terms of dollars, but what was interesting about it was there were people who were willing to pay a dollar just to lob insults at her. When she closed the comments the money dried up accordingly. It was pathetic, but in a way it did almost predict the kind of behavior you describe. In the Hugh Mungus case this woman’s only way to garner revenue by the donation site was to present herself as such a pariah, that she could earn a meager income by soliciting insults on a website. And now we have news outlets that whore themselves out to serving propaganda so that true-believers have a refuge to cower within, the only reliable audience remaining to them. Both are in essence the same, it’s just a matter of scale. At least with this woman it was actual money, not just fractions of a cent per pageview from advertisers proping up these outlets.

      2. Therefore, the study JT cited shows the people in the US are smarter than in countries that trust the media more!

  5. DISTRUST IN MEDIA CUTS BOTH WAYS

For every Trumper who feels mainstream media has liberal bias, there’s a Bernie Bro who thinks mainstream media has a conservative bias.

    1. I always remind myself it is the Left that has left behind it 100’s of millions dead bodies. They have a track record.

    2. Anonymous, how could even a Bernie Bro think that CNN or MSNBC are biased toward conservatives. I suspect a substance in use that is foreign to the body.

  6. Looking beyond the simple duality of Republican-Democrat and so on, here is an interesting documentary pulling data from various well-known and widely accepted sources to determine just who runs the world.

Entitled “Monopoly – Follow the Money”, the analysis traces the ownership of major blocks of stock of various corporations to show who sits at the top of the pyramid, who owns the major media, what “non-profit” foundations have the most clout.
    (Spoiler alert: Blackrock and Vanguard)
If you don’t like to watch 45-min of video, this page also provides a transcript of the narrative:

  7. “All we want are the facts, Ma’am.” Joe Friday (Dragnet).

Why would anyone watch corporate media to get facts?
The headlines of 2020 are crumbling as truth seeps out. The big corporate media viewership is falling. Perhaps one day these organizations will be forced to once again seek the truth.

The 24 hour news cycle and corporate involvement in “news” has done much harm journalism.

  8. Everyone knowns the MSM went communistic. What’s so hard to understand about that? Don’t people know about ignorance and communism? The two go together like ham & eggs.

I think it was the Supine Court ruled the papers can LIE and not be sued or something like that. So the Supreme court is ignorant of its own devices and corrupted.

  9. …and for years I have been lamenting the dissolution of our free press by infecting it with the sickness of universal commercialism of all aspects of our nation, which ultimately leads to a merger of industry, corporate and govt i.e. fascism. When you can’t tell the corporations from the govt, when they share the same databases and are directed by congressional fiat, then hand over your free press to them, then there is no potential for any actual freedom left. When the highest court in our Judiciary votes to recognize corporations as “entities”, which we mere mortals also are identified as, then there is no more hope of a representative republic. Representative of who? Not the people. And not representative of the corporations which can out vote the people with their checkbooks every time. if the corporations are mingled with the govt. It ends up being govt representative, of itself. I don’t recall your posts or lack thereof back then when that little floozy of a decision made its way into the annals of time, so I won’t speculate.

What is noticeably lacking in this poignant and well on its way to making its point opine over partisanship in the media, is the lack of even any mention of the name, “Fox News”. Not a peep. I do see a razor like focus on transgressing news media institutions like the Washington Post, New York Times. All liberal leaning publications according to you. But alas, no mention of the Grandmasters of Gossip, the King of canards, the first fencers of fake news themselves, Fox.

You have watched Fox news once or twice before, right? I mean, you own a TV set, right? Or have access to one? Laptop…smartphone, …we can safely assume you have these tools at your disposal, am I correct? If so, then how in the name of John Marshall can you publish such an editorial leaving such a glaring omission. Or are we to assume this is about money for you now?

Because for a man who’s made it his trademark to present himself as non partisan , reasoned and unbiased , a fair and impartial juror if you will, concerned only with the facts at hand, this glaring omission particularly in light of the fact that you are now gainfully employed at Fox news, stands as a grim and stark milestone to that legacy.

Yes Mr. Turley, the media is very partisan. You said it. But when are you going to see it?

And if you do see it, then where do we go from here sir?

    1. Chris Weber. First you say that the left wing news media is not slanted and then now that the poll has come out showing that 71% of Americans don’t trust the news media, you tell us that the news from Fox is slanted too. He did it too Mom. In your response suggesting that Professor Turley is a shill for Fox News if you look at his bio on Wikipedia you will find that he has also written for The N.Y. Times, The Washington Post and many other publications both on the left and on the right. It’s not hard for us to come to the conclusion as to who on these pages is the real shill.

    2. CORRECTION: A troll has falsely stated I said somewhere in my comment the left wing news media is not slanted.

While I do not engage with these time wasting cowards hiding behind cartoon pictures and made up names, I will correct lies made in my name and this trolls statement is not only a lie but the exact opposite of what I said, both in this comment and any of the few comments I have made in this blog over the years.

I won’t engage these trolls ever, its a complete waste of time, but I will correct outright lies attributed to myself, and that trolls lie stands corrected.

  10. The god of money is the most powerful of all the gods.
You and I struggle against it; we fight to deny it.
    You doubt it?
    Look in the mirror.
    What do you see?
    Look all around you.
    What do you see?
    Does money make right?
    Money makes what is
    … in sight.
Feel free to take it as a slight.
Principles and values can make might.
You, however, must be willing to fight.
Not with words you speak or write.
Only fighting and dying, regrettably, are true.
What you say, think, write, feel, believe means nothing, or next to nothing; the only consequence is what you do.
Do the so-called Corporate Media, do the so-called Main Stream Media make money? More money than the others in the poll?

    Why am I wrong?

  11. …using the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism …. to report on the ‘failure of Journalism’ …. OK, is that unintended non-serious irony ??? (:>) (:>)

  12. How unsurprising that Turley goes on the attack against non-Trump “media” without mentioning the lie machine at the Hate Network and the endless lying and support of the narcissistic liar in chief they constantly defend. Here’s one little clue for you Trumpsters: no non-Trump media ever preaches that Fox, OAN, Breitbart, News Max or the other pro-Trump media cannot be trusted. See, that’s part of the indoctrination. Not only do alt-right media constantly lie, deflect away from Republicans and their efforts to cheat to maintain power and Trump’s lies and failures, they constantly preach that the “main stream media” cannot be trusted. Where’s the proof of the Big Lie? Why don’t you Trumpsters question why it hasn’t been produced? How can you believe that there is any equivalence between the Trump insurrection and Republicans’ defense of this act of treason, and protests over the murder of George Floyd, which the Democratic party neither instigated nor defended?

    1. Natacha, you say that no non Trump media ever preaches against the right wing media. Let me provide a little tidbit for your reading pleasure. https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/absurd-calls-shut-down-fox-021001137.html. Another interesting factoid. A call by Democrats to censor Fox, NewsMax and OANN. Please see paragraph four. https://www.politico.com/news/2021/02/22/democrats-conservative-media-misinformation-470863. I invite you to provide any information that illustrates the advocation of the shutting down of CNN or MSNBC by anyone in the media on the right. Now is your opportunity. To get a consensus of 71% of Americans to say that they agree on anything is almost impossible. To reach such a percentage many Democrats must be included in holding the idea that the press in America can not be trusted. The numbers prove that it’s not just Republicans who don’t trust the MSM. I understand, you have your little conspiracy theories and your entire life revolves around them. Oh my, what would happen if you ever let go of your little binky.
      .

  13. An interview on NPR with an NPR media correspondent Mr. Folkenflik about the debunking of the lab leak is very interesting. You will find his answer to the fifth question worthy of dissection https://www.wxxinews.org/post/why-much-media-dismissed-theories-covid-leaked-lab. He says. “When the media doesn’t listen closely enough, when it doesn’t challenge its own instincts, I think we give grist to those who would undermine the credibility of the press and, by extension, the scientific and public health communities, too “. In other words, he says in speaking of the media, that when we don’t listen and we don’t question ourselves due to our political bias someone might think that our credibility isn’t worth a big ball of spit. No sh-t Sherlock and a No Duh. Another “My bad”. Could people have died because of our propaganda he did not innocently ask. He continues by not listening close enough and not challenging his own instincts and he gives grist to the 71% of Americans who think that the media is undermining the nation. It seems that the one undermining the reputation of the media is Mr. Folkinflik.

  14. The people of America are now finding out that COVID-19 was created in a lab. The media exclaimed that it was a debunked wacko theory. It’s no wonder that the people do not trust the media. The lab that created it knew it’s exact nature. The question is, if the nature of the virus would have been known sooner could a vaccine have been discovered sooner? Even if the vaccine was discovered only one month sooner how many lives around the world could have been saved? Donald Trump said it could have come from a lab so television news and social media said it must be a wacko theory. How many lives did Trump Derangement Syndrome cost. Now Fauci says “Oh my bad”. They tell you that it was Trumps fault because he lies. Maybe they told us that everything that Trump said was a lie so just discount the possibility that it could have come from a lab. Did they ever once think that they might be wrong and peoples lives might be at stake? Their petty politics were more important. “Oh my bad” they now say. Tell it to the people who watched their loved ones take their last dying breath then tell us how you do everything you do for the good of the people rather then your continued employment.

    1. No, no one’s “finding out” that COVID came from a lab leak. The matter is being investigated, but no conclusions have been reached. You’ve been corrected about this before, but because you are a Trump and alt-right media disciple, and they keep preaching that it’s “proven” that it came from a lab, you believe it. No matter how many times you repeat this lie, it will not become fact. Trump, after lavishing praise on Chinese President Xi, turned on him and China when he couldn’t bully China to enter into a trade agreement. NOTHING Trump has ever done in his pathetic life is for altruistic reasons. He is a narcissist, and went after China when it wouldn’t kiss his enormous ass.

      1. Natacha has as much credibility as the narrative driven MSM he/she/it so fervently defends…

Never have so many been so poisoned by so few, as these China/Iran/Russia driven drones are invested (bribed) in destroying this nation…

They make Communists and Stalin Socialists look like conservatives, next to the uber Leftists they have become.

God save the USA… Joe and his Ho certainly won’t 😉

      2. Natch, Read Nichols Wade’s excellent report on the Wuhan lab. He is a true journalist and does not claim to know for certain one way or the other. However he does lay out known facts that make it a near certainty that the virus escaped from that lab.

For me one of the strongest points was that the lab in Wuhan was working on those types of virus.

Another strong point is that no animal host has been found for that peculiar virus.

Particularly important is that a virus that dangerous is supposed to be handled only at level 4 containment but Wuhan sometimes manipulated the virus at only level 2, about the level of a dentist office.

At that containment level it was almost certain to escape sooner or later.

        1. Here is an interesting quote from Wade’s article about viruses escaping from labs:

“the long history of viruses escaping from even the best run laboratories. The smallpox virus escaped three times from labs in England in the 1960’s and 1970’s, causing 80 cases and 3 deaths. Dangerous viruses have leaked out of labs almost every year since. Coming to more recent times, the SARS1 virus has proved a true escape artist, leaking from laboratories in Singapore, Taiwan, and no less than four times from the Chinese National Institute of Virology in Beijing.”

One can justly worry that there are so many labs around the world that are tinkering with such dangerous entities.

      3. Natacha, this is exactly what Turley is ignoring. The right wing media is just as responsible if not more for that ranking than anything else. Fox News itself has been forced to retract or apologize for clearly reporting or showing false information. Because Turley often goes on Fox News to offer “legal opinion” he can’t really cite his own employer for being part of the problem. He could still criticize outfits such as OAN or NewsMax or even Alex Jones. Unfortunately he won’t. because he really isn’t being honest with his analysis about the ranking.

Look at the lawsuit against Fox News and the other right leaning “news” sites for defamation from voting machine companies. They regularly made false statements about the reliability of these companies voting machines and continued to promote the “doubt” that creates this mistrust of media. Turley focuses only on the actual serious media, but ignores the the source of that mistrust itself. Right wing media perpetrating false narratives and lies the trump administration promoted.

Turley IS part of why we are last in that ranking. His deliberate ignorance is enabling the very thing he is talking about.

      4. Natach………you are so gullible, which would be adorable, if it weren’t so pathetic.

      5. Hey Natacha, even John Stewart says it was a lab leak. 60,000 animal tests and no COVID-19 found. Two people from the Wuhan lab we’re hospitalized with COVID symptoms. Biden is now calling for an investigation. With people on the left thinking that it was a lab leak you should be careful that you will not be left behind. I wonder if Natacha is a mother. She says. I told you three times before that you are bad. I’ve corrected you about this before. One would necessarily have to feel sorry for her children. Next it will be just wait tell your father gets home.

    1. Welfare news and communist party headquarters.

You must be full of facts and truth; an information “rocket scientist” by now.

You’re not brain dead, for sure!

    2. Wally, you should ask yourself something. How many people broadcasting from the PBS News Hour or writing in the Economist are on the left political spectrum?. Your next question should be are they giving it to me straight or is their approach biased? The two news outlets you mention are two of the many reasons 71% of the American people don’t trust the media. Like in school connect the dots.

    3. That about covers the range of approved, establishment outlets from A to B. What about progressives and conservatives, not to even mention opinions farther afield but worth being aware of?

  15. It was the norm, not the exception, for the media to claim BLM riots were “mostly peaceful”, while businesses burned in the background and looters made off with business owner’s livelihoods. We watched riots destroy communities, drive jobs and employers away, and dry up opportunities on our television screens. These effects will be felt for decades, perhaps multiple generations. What business owner will locate a business in such a neighborhood where the risk is evidently high it will be looted or burned? The media’s goal was not to report the news; it was clearly to shape public opinion. So it excused. It enabled. It went ah shucks when its cameramen and reporters were threatened or assaulted.

Yet it talked up a trespassing incident on Jan 6 where unarmed yahoos, led by a guy wearing a bison cape, broke a couple of windows to get in the Capitol Building and posed for selfies. A police officer died of natural causes, and an unarmed protestor was shot by a Capitol police officer. Media releases the names of any police officer involved in use of force against a minority within 24 hours, but we have yet to learn the name of the officer who shot the unarmed Ashli Babbit. Democrat BLM and Antifa out there looting, burning, throwing bombs against federal buildings, destroying police cars, burning down a police precinct, and seizing entire city blocks for many months in their own “autonomous zone”, are mostly peaceful freedom fighters. But Trump voters who trespassed and illegally paraded in the Capitol, posing for selfies, and breaking a couple of windows, were guilty of sedition. No, they actually portrayed all Trump voters guilty of sedition. It’s not news anymore; it’s just propaganda.

Yet the media is outraged that most Americans think they are untrustworthy?

    1. Karen, do you on any level understand the extent to which you are nothing but a disciple of a failed political candidate. CNN has been running a documentary on the Trump Insurrection. No political commentary–just documents and videos showing the course of events. It was supposed to be aired last night, but the Surfside tower collapse preempted it. You need to see this to understand the truth. No, the insurrection was not a couple of yahoos who broke a few windows to pose for selfies. If you don’t know any better, then you shouldn’t comment on it. The Trump insurrection was fomented by your hero as a last-ditch effort to prevent Biden’s victory from being certified. Trump’s disciples intended to harm Mike Pence for complying with the Constitution and certifying Biden’s victory. They had erected a gallows and chanted “hang Mike Pence”. These are facts. They were literally hunting for Nancy Pelosi. They invaded the Capitol, and Ashli Babbitt was shot BECAUSE SHE WAS TRYING TO GO THROUGH A BROKEN WINDOW into the vestibule to the Senate and House chambers. They had zip ties, they used bear spray on Capitol Police officers, and Brian Sicknick’s death was attributed to the beating inflicted by these people. The lies your alt-right media tell you are propaganda. Why do you believe it? CNN’s video clearly shows how and why Babbitt got shot, and it includes interviews with her family members. And…BTW, disgraced suspended attorney Giuliani called for the Trump disciples to engage in “combat”, which received cheers from the deplorables. I dare you and the other Trumpsters to watch the CNN documentary. Videos speak for themselves.

You are literally lying by using the phrase “DEMOCRAT BLM and Antifa”. No such thing exists. The Democratic Party did not instigate any of their conduct, and has consistently condemned it.

      1. Karen give up on Natacha… He/She/It is like the fungus that just won’t go away despite treatment…

The more you address it, the worse it gets 😉

Only medication will help, and when Natacha takes the antipsychotics regularly, you will see improvement 😉

        1. Mescca – I don’t read Natacha’s posts any more. Ever since she went on an antisemitic rant about rich Jews, I saw no point in reading any more of her enraged hysteria. All she writes is disjointed shrieking about Fox, Hannity, Trump, Trump, Trump, Russia, interspersed with regular and pernicious lies, total ignorance of facts, and scolding Turley. What’s the point in reading that garbage? You’d find more sense under a bridge.

My comment about why the media isn’t trusted was just about Turley’s post. I don’t read what Natacha writes and could care less.

          1. Wise indeed and the antithesis of Natacha (He/She/It/Droid/Drone/Moron) posts that spew from a has been Leftist hack…

Your posts are informative and appreciated.

          2. Karen S: it is not anti-Semitic to point out that the ONLY reason your orange hero moved the US Embassy to Jerusalem–a symbolic slap in the face to the Palestinian people–was to curry favor with wealthy Jews in order to get campaign contributions. This is not anti-Semitic, it is anti-Trump.

List ever single regular and pernicious lie I’ve told.

You are immune to facts. You believe all of the lies you hear on alt-right media, and try to portray yourself as sophisticated and educated, but you aren’t. What you don’t realize is that the alt-right media know how to push your buttons. They know, for instance, that people like you literally LOATHE Nancy Pelosi, Hillary Clinton and Barak Obama and will believe every lie they tell you about them. They are rage- triggers. I know this from reading Rick Wilson’s book “Everything Trump Touches, Dies”. He used to be a Republican strategist, and he points out that the quickest way to get the deplorables riled up is to show photos of these three because of the jealousy and irrational hatred felt by uneducated, gullible white people.

  16. Years ago, while being sucked into a media maelstrom, I hired a seasoned media consultant to help me understand what was going on.

    I’ll always remember this insight:

“You have to grasp,” he said, “how the media views its *purpose* in the culture. The think it’s their function to comfort the afflicted, and to afflict the comfortable.”

The only slight change since then is who the media regards as the “afflicted,” and who they regard as the “comfortable.”

    1. The sad (but true) joke in the last few years is that the media now afflicts the afflicted and comforts the comfortable.

  17. I am frankly amazed at how eagerly the news media, social media, Google, Hollywood, the public K-12 education system, and universities have all eagerly come together to form a bloc that operates like a dictatorial government. They work in coordination to further the interests of the far Left Democrat Party.

This unholy alliance pushes Democrat propaganda, censors opposing views or those not in alignment with the Party Line, controls the availability of information, and punishes political dissidents.

See how social media censored topics, such as the likelihood that SARS-CoV2 escaped the Wuhan Institute of Virology who, coincidentally, was openly studying biological weaponization and gain of function of coronavaruses that originated in bats.

Stories about State Department cables warning about the dangers of this research, as well as biosafety concerns at the Wuhan BSL4 lab, were censored. Stories that claimed there was no evidence that Covid-19 originated in the lab, or that it was a naturally occurring zoonotic virus originating in the wet market were promoted. In social media, articles that discussed the nature of the Wuhan lab, the patient zero who worked at that lab, or the genetic sequence found in SARS-CoV-2 that is a fingerprint of gain of function engineering, were censored. Deliberately censored.

Until recently, such articles, and even comments summarizing the findings, were censored by Facebook. I had to bookmark the articles as I found them, because Google search engines buried them.

“”The Covid-19 pathogen has a genetic footprint that has never been observed in a natural coronavirus,” they wrote.

The experts argue the genome pairing of CGG-CGG – which is commonly used in so-called “gain of function” research to boost a virus’ transmissibility- has never been found naturally in coronaviruses like Sars-CoV-2.

Double CGG is one of the 36 possible pairings, and they argued it is a “useful beacon that permits the scientists to track the insertion in the laboratory”.

Dr Quay and Professor Muller called the paring’s discovery in CoV-2 a “damning fact” as they argued the case for the lab leak.

“Proponents of zoonotic origin must explain why the novel coronavirus, when it mutated or recombined, happened to pick its least favourite combination, the double CGG,” they wrote.

“Why did it replicate the choice the lab’s gain-of-function researchers would have made?

“At the minimum, this fact — that the coronavirus, with all its random possibilities, took the rare and unnatural combination used by human researchers — implies that the leading theory for the origin of the coronavirus must be laboratory escape.””

    https://www.wsj.com/articles/the-science-suggests-a-wuhan-lab-leak-11622995184

“In gain-of-function research, a microbiologist can increase the lethality of a coronavirus enormously by splicing a special sequence into its genome at a prime location. Doing this leaves no trace of manipulation. But it alters the virus spike protein, rendering it easier for the virus to inject genetic material into the victim cell. Since 1992 there have been at least 11 separate experiments adding a special sequence to the same location. The end result has always been supercharged viruses.”

    1. Wow! Karen got to use the “zoonotic” word again, pretending to be knowledgeable and educated. Her writings prove she is neither. She is a disciple of alt-right media. The source of COVID is being investigated, but the consensus of mainstream experts is that it is a mutation from an animal source, because that’s where SARS, EBOLA and AIDS originated. You only want to believe this because the alt-right media keep trying to stir the pot–keep the deplorables pissed off, defend Trump and the lies he tells. Did you forget that Trump lavished praise on Chinese President Xi until he couldn’t work a trade deal, at which point he turned on him and started the “lab leak” propaganda? See, anyone wanting to get something from Trump has learned to praise and flatter him and he’ll usually give them what they want. That’s because he is a narcissist. Other world leaders are not.

In fact the Delta variant of COVID, which is far more virulent and deadly, occurred naturally. It didn’t come from a lab.

      1. Natacha, You/It/They/Youse are BOORISH… and your “knowledge” is no more than regurgitated Leftist talking points…

Get yourself a life and a purpose and for God’s sake (err Stalin’s sake for you) TAKE YOUR ANTIPSYCHOTICS!!!

      2. The Delta mutation evolved from the SARS-CoV-2 lab virus, in part because of faulty restrictive policies (e.g. lockdowns, masks, suppression of effective therapeutic treatments) and nonsteralizing vaccines that were original designated for emergency use in high risk populations. While vaccinated immunity is keyed to the spike protein, which in some, many (thousands) people is pathogenic, naturally immunity is keyed to the protein encapsulation of the genetic material, thus the preexisting or cross-reactive immunity in a minority, perhaps majority, of the population.

        Oh Stop The Stupid!

Data from the NHS indicates the Delta mutation is more virulent, but less deadly (0.1%) in the general population, and more deadly (0.64%) in the vaccinated population.

  18. Why doesn’t JT give a link to the study? There is 49 countries that people trust there media more Than in the US? Are you kidding me. Perhaps in those countries people are brainwashed into believing the media.

    1. Howard’s, maybe in other countries they are brainwashed by the media. The other possibility is that their media isn’t as slanted to the left as our media. Which thought lends itself to the preponderance of the evidence.

      1. Karen S, Howardb doesn’t have to read an article to know what’s in it much like Nancy Pelosi doesn’t have to read the bill to see what’s in it. They just hang onto the Newsspeak as tight as the can.

        1. Thinkitthrough – I have noticed that the same people who demand supporting facts go silent as soon as we provide those supporting facts. They are willfully blind true believers.

I can’t understand that mentality. When I first read that the Jan 6 protestors murdered officer Secknick by beating him with a fire extinguisher, I was really angry. Yet I soon learned that the beating never happened. It was all made up. Secknick tragically died of a stroke.

I can’t imagine being so brainwashed as to continue to bleat that Secknick was murdered by Capitol Rioters after reading evidence that he was not. But that’s the mentality we’re dealing with here on the Left. That’s the response to each and every disproved allegation. They just ignore evidence and keep repeating their allegations. Whether it’s the debunked “very fine people” myth, or that Trump was an antisemite. They just ignore exculpatory evidence and stick to the propaganda. There is no reason.

          https://www.cbsnews.com/news/brian-sicknick-capitol-riot-died-natural-causes/

          1. Karen, citing some source you read is not proof of anything other than you aren’t the sophisticated or educated person you pretend to be. Sicknick’s death was not coincidental, to the beating and abuse he suffered at the hands of Trump insurrectionists. The abuse he suffered at the hands of the rioters Trump resulted his death. Just like when someone has a fatal heart attack, that is a natural cause, but if happened after they refused to take their anti-hypertension and cholesterol-lowering drugs because they believed some faith healer who told him prayer would save him and doctors can’t be trusted, the death was really caused by the faith-healer, even though it would be listed as due to “natural causes”. Again, I dare you to watch the CNN documentary.

            1. CNN has reported false and creative information over more than 16 trimesters. ironically exposing Obama, Biden et al collusion in Eastern European and Chinese affairs that harmed international relations and undermined American interests.

Plausible cause (e.g. Floyd’s positional death that followed a medical event that preceded and was, in fact, a progressive condition forced by drug consumption, comorbidities, criminal stress, and a beliigerent mob that prevented authorized medical personnel access), but not probable causes.

The so-called “insurrectionists” included dozens of people who were and were not Trump supporters, including left-wing agitators, and government agents (e.g. the officer who murdered an unarmed woman Ashli Babbitt for trespassing). There was no burning, no other murders, not even lethal weapons (other than American flags wielded by left-wing agitators), and one or two isolated cases of redistributive change. The disorder progressed in the wake capitol police inviting people inside and congressional denial of a federal offer for security personnel to perform crowd control.

            2. Substitute Natacha in the post above and failing to take antipsychotics and the truth is told…

The ignorance of Leftist hacks appears to be epic… they don’t even realize that they prove themselves the dolts that they are each and every time they feebly regurgitate the narratives of CNN, MSLSD, NY Slimes and the rest of the useless narrative driven drivel they spew…

Pathetic brood they are, just below the evolutionary scale of primates 😉

    2. As KarenS says below he does link to the report. in fact you can download the 164 pg report from there as a pdf. I don’t trust their results totally, however, as they show FOX below CNN as ‘trusted’. All the studies the last several years show fox trailing pbs by just a smidge. Doesn’t make sense that fox would be the most watched cable news station by far and be below cnn. fox has 7 of the top 10 shows; cnn rankings begin around 22 with cuomo primetime, anderson cooper @23, erin burnett 26, jake tapper / lead 27, don lemon 34, wolf blitzer 35, cnn news room 38 (this is last week’s report). MSNBC does sneak in rachael maddow @3, however Morning Joe is 24, Stepanie Rhule 25, MTP Chuckie Todd 30, Katie tur 32, andrea mitchel 33. So with fox in the top 2 and top 7 of 10, and almost all above 20, showing fox in this report as least trusted (contrary to the other reports) makes me think we are dealing with the same usual left leaning sampling. Reuters who did the study is like the rest of the legacy news.
