With the resurgence of the Taliban and the worsening security situation in Afghanistan, we have seen an increase in the Taliban’s attacks on “unIslamic” acts. Women and girls are, once again, the focus of these disgusting acts of public punishment. Girls are not going to schools are a series of acid attacks by Taliban supporters in Kandahar.

Recently, we have seen students being punished for statements and actions outside of school. At the same time, we have teachers fired for their outside jobs, here and here. Now, North Carolina teachers hat the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School are facing discipline over comments and photos that they put on their Facebook sites, including “I hate my students!”

Shaving every morning might be something of a challenge for one Pittsburgh police officer. The officer has been found to have shot a mirror after seeing a man pointing a gun at him. It turned out to be his own image.
This is one for the video library. A driver first run over the front of a parked car with one of those giant SUVs. The driver then continues to drive away despite the fact that a police car is sitting directly across from the hit and run.

John Samuel Ricci, 33, of Connecticut was arrested in Jensen Beach, Florida after trying to steal communion wafers during a church service St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church.
There is growing speculation that President Bush will issue pardons for the unlawful domestic surveillance program and torture program in his waning days in office. Such a pardon would be welcomed not only by his allies but some Democrats who have previously blocked any serious investigation into alleged crimes by the Administration. The pressure for pardons may be increasing with some in the Democratic ranks are publicly talking about serious investigations. I discussed this with Rachel Maddow.

Kirby Moore is a dye deliquent. After her stepsister Chelsea dyed her hair to a slightly darker color (and received accolades from her teachers), Kirby dyed her hair dark brown. When she appeared at her school in England, she was whisked away and confronted with the dress code — and her all-too-dark image. Her hair was unnaturally dark and she must remain secluded until she is again “natural.”
Now, this must be a sign of the Apocalypse: The New York Times taking Fox News to task for wrongfully impugning the intellect of Gov. Sarah Palin. The “old gray lady” has declared that Martin Eisenstadt is a fraud and hoodwinked the main stream media. However, the New York Times seems to go a bit far in assuming that the original Fox story was therefore also a fraud.

The commander of an Israeli Air Force base has sentenced a soldier to 21 days in jail for yawning during his memorial speech to mark the anniversary of the assassination of prime minister Yitzhak Rabin. It appears that the yawn unbecoming a soldier was aggravated by his failure to cover his mouth.

Houston has an interesting wrongful death case that appears to be something of a developing trend across the country. Rick’s Cabaret is being sued by Mattie Jean Johnson after her son was killed by a drunk stripper leaving work. These businesses make their money off drinks — often purchased for the strippers. The resulting accidents have led to a number of lawsuits by both strippers and third parties. Now, for those of you who are into legal trivia, why does Rick’s Cabaret ring a bell?

An Oklahoma woman traveled to Covington, Louisiana to join a KKK group known as the “Dixie Brotherhood.” When she decided at the last minute to back out, the racists allegedly murdered her and burned her belongings. She was found under brush along the roadside and the leaders arrested including clan leader, Raymond “Chuck” Foster, 44.
The media has uncovered yet another American International Group (AIG) frolic for executives at a resort — and efforts to conceal the event from the public (already outraged over past publicly financed parties for disgraced executives). AIG reportedly blocked any mention of its name on signs or even in conversations among resort employees.
Nay Myo Kyaw, a 28-year old blogger in Burma, has received a horrific 20 year and 6 month sentence for writing a poem viewed as a veiled criticism of the dictatorship. Another poet, Saw Wai, was given 2 years for a Valentine’s Day poem and even the lawyer, Aung Thein. for the two men was sentenced to jail.
