An interesting case has been filed in Seattle where four students have sued over the disclosure of details of their sex lives in the student newspaper. Many of us are often criticizing schools for censorship of articles and punishment of free speech. This case represents the flip side of such stories, charging that the school should have exercised greater supervision of the Emerald Ridge High School newspaper, the JagWire, to prevent the invasion of their privacy and exposure to severe sexual harassment, humiliation and embarrassment.

Darlene Gardner was charged with animal abuse after she was found to be living with her family (no problem) and 30 animals, including two deer, (big problem) in Northern Idaho. After many of the animals were euthanized and others released into the wild, Gardner has filed a federal lawsuit seeking $2 million. Among other things, she alleges that the original search was conducted without a warrant.

Houston has an interesting wrongful death case that appears to be something of a developing trend across the country. Rick’s Cabaret is being sued by Mattie Jean Johnson after her son was killed by a drunk stripper leaving work. These businesses make their money off drinks — often purchased for the strippers. Victoria’s Secret is facing a lawsuit over complaints that bras — Angels Secret Embrace and Very Sexy Extreme Me Push-Up — are toxic. Women have complained about rashes, hives and permanent scarring. Tests indicate that the bras contain formaldehyde.

It is hard to know where to begin with this case. A woman goes to a dentist for a breast reduction and is shocked that he botched the job. The unnamed woman is suing dental surgeon Thomas Laney of Seattle for a surgery done on her when she was 15 years old. Laney has faced a series of 10 malpractice lawsuits, including one alleging a wrongful death.
Kimberlee Ouwroulis has filed an interesting lawsuit in Canada alleging age discrimination. Owroulis is a stripper and claims that she was fired at 44 due to her age. The question is whether age is a Bona Fide Occupational Qualification for a stripper.

This could be a new Fox Special “When Monks Attack.” As Jews and Muslims fight of the location of the new Museum of Tolerance, Christian monks were having an actual brawl at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher on Sunday. Monks from the Greek Orthodox and Armenian denominations were preparing for a ceremony at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in the Old City when they went at each other like Templar Knights.

In what could be an extremely important constitutional case, Laura Schubert (now Laura Schubert Pearson) has filed a petition for certiorari with the United States Supreme Court in Pleasant Glade Assembly of God v. Schubert. Schubert lawsuit alleging false imprisonment and assault by the pastor and the church was dismissed by the Texas Supreme Court, which held (6 to 3) that any trial would unconstitutionally entangle the court in church matters.
The White House was the scene of a torts controversy this week after Presidential Dog Barney bite a reporter. It is a classic question of the common law “one free bite rule.” The video is below.

The Yamaha Rhino is the target of perhaps the largest array of lawsuits against a vehicle in decades. Over 200 lawsuits have been filed in a trend reminiscent of the lawsuits that led to the removal of the Suzuki Samurai in the 1980s. There have been a reported some 30 deaths involving the Rhino, including those of two young girls last month.

The Children’s National Medical Center in Washington is going to court to seek a court order to terminate life support for a 12-year-old boy in a case raising parental and religious rights. A ventilator and medications are currently keeping Moti Brody of Brooklyn, N.Y. alive but his Orthodox Jewish parents do not recognize brain death in their religion.

Actor Keanu Reeves had a most excellent day in court. A jury only took three hours to reject the torts claims of Alison Silva, a paparazzo who claimed that Reeves injured his left wrist by hitting him with his Porsche. He sought $711,974, which includes medical bills, lost wages and punitive damages.
In Los Angeles, there is a case that raises both criminal and tort allegations of a doctor accused of hastening the death of a young man to harvest his organs. Dr. Hootan Roozrokh, a San Francisco transplant surgeon, is accused of the crime 2 1/2 years ago in the death of Ruben Navarro, 25.

Quentin Patrick, 22, an ex-convict in Sumter, South Carolina shot and killed a trick-or-treater T.J. Darrisaw who came to his home on Halloween — spraying nearly 30 rounds with an assault rifle from inside his home after hearing a knock on the door. T.J.’s 9-year-old brother, Ahmadre Darrisaw, and their father, Freddie Grinnell, were injured but were released after being treated at a hospital.
