Lieberman Predicts Victory in War With Iran With A Prayer For “Regime Change”

This week the public continued to get signals from our leaders that we may be in for yet another war. This time it would be Iran. In an interview this week, Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) uttered the words that many peace advocates fear: “regime change.” In response to public moves by Israel to attack Iran “before the U.S. elections,” Lieberman took to the air to assure the public that “we” can defeat Iran and “hope and pray” for a regime change. Sounds tragically familiar.

Many of us have been watching with rising concern the moves toward a war with Iran, including the reported desire of the Netanyahu government to secure the approval of a leading Rabbi. There seems a concerted effort to prepare Americans for such a war. Israel is counting on the current presidential campaign to dampen down opposition to its launching an attack and is clearly confident that we will eventually hand over the billions that it will want to replace weapons and help pay for the war. More importantly, the chances that we could get pulled into the war are high since an Israeli attack could easily provoke Iran into attacking U.S. personnel or assets.

Lieberman told Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty this week that he thinks the chances are “high” that there will be a war with Iran and stressed “I think we have the capability either to eliminate the Iranian nuclear weapons program or to disable it in a way that it will be delayed for enough years that we may hope and pray that there will be a regime change and that there will be a more democratic and friendly regime.”

Of course, Lieberman can be suggesting that we could attack Iran and not call it a “war” — a tactic used by the Obama Administration in the Libyan war.

Of course, the decision for the war will not be made by Americans and the American people will once again be given a fait accompli that we must support our allies and our own troops now that a war has started. Thus, as Camden is now moving to eliminate its police force for lack of money, we will likely be sending billions again to another war abroad with U.S. troops likely to follow.

“Oh lord, we beseech thy blessing on our holy crusade to smite the evil Cubans…no, Vietnamese…no, Panamanians…no, Iraqis…no, Afghans…no, Libyans, no, IRANIANS! That’s the ticket.”

So difficult, keeping track of tiny, defenseless countries.

The first five people I’d nominate to restore America’s military might and lead the forces to Iran are Tagg Romney, Ben Romney, Matt Romney, Craig Romney and Josh Romney. Mr. Romney could surely lead by example and dispatch his sons since the billionaires never seem to serve, but are quick to send everyone elses’ sons and daughters to die or suffer permanent disfigurement.

    Richard C:

Not sure how it follows that involving Romney’s sons implies we shouldn’t protect our national interests against a nuclear threat from a rogue, ideological regime. Maybe you could enlighten me? If you mean we should share the burden of service equally among the citizenry, then you are calling for a draft of all military aged persons. Perhaps you could explain how that makes any sense, too?

Here we go again with Turley attacking President Obama for things said by someone else. When the garbage is late, the mail is delayed, the blame game on Obama goes off like a bell.
If you want to criticise President Obama then criticize him for trying things short of war to stop those nutcase Islamic turbin head idiots from getting a nuclear bomb. Remember the Saturday Night Live Song of 1979 or so: Bomb, Bomb. Bomb, Bomb bomb Iran….
to the Beach Boys song tune of Barara Ann.

@mespo727272 “Minimizing threats to national security doesn’t help your cause.”

Yes, I think there is some substance here and this is, or perhaps this maybe, a sticky situation.

But as a practical matter, how many more victories like Iraq and Afghanistan can we really afford?

At some point I think we have to ask ourselves does real security lie in confronting every threat or does it lie in conserving our limited resources for a major test.

To me this is complicated stuff and there are no easy answers.

Is Iran a major test that requires all our effort of just one more example the kind of international challenge that will continue to appear year after year?

The neoCon elements in U.S.eh? propaganda literature and discourse are like a rusty old radio from the transistor daze:

For more than quarter of a century Western officials have claimed repeatedly that Iran is close to joining the nuclear club. Such a result is always declared “unacceptable” and a possible reason for military action, with “all options on the table” to prevent upsetting the Mideast strategic balance dominated by the US and Israel.

And yet, those predictions have time and again come and gone. This chronicle of past predictions lends historical perspective to today’s rhetoric about Iran.

But in case they had their heads in the hole in the ground as usual, they would have learned that there was a popular uprising in Iran that was NOT associated with the Muslim Brotherhood. Of course, Obama, the Leftists, would have NONE of that. Obama only backs Ahmadinjad or the Muslim Brotherhood in Iran. Period. Which is just the way Jonathan T. and other Leftists like it.

“O Lord our Father, our young patriots, idols of our hearts, go forth to battle – be Thou near them! With them, in spirit, we also go forth from the sweet peace of our beloved firesides to smite the foe. O Lord our God, help us to tear their soldiers to bloody shreds with our shells; help us to cover their smiling fields with the pale forms of their patriot dead; help us to drown the thunder of the guns with the shrieks of their wounded, writhing in pain; help us to lay waste their humble homes with a hurricane of fire; help us to wring the hearts of their unoffending widows with unavailing grief; help us to turn them out roofless with their little children to wander unfriended the wastes of their desolated land in rags and hunger and thirst, sports of the sun flames of summer and the icy winds of winter, broken in spirit, worn with travail, imploring Thee for the refuge of the grave and denied it – for our sakes who adore Thee, Lord, blast their hopes, blight their lives, protract their bitter pilgrimage, make heavy their steps, water their way with their tears, stain the white snow with the blood of their wounded feet! We ask it, in the spirit of love, of Him Who is the Source of Love, and Who is ever-faithful refuge and friend of all that are sore beset and seek His aid with humble and contrite hearts. Amen.

For you subcretins out there, and there are many on this board, the following is a definition of a Leftist:

    Leftist = Pro-Islam, Pro-Government Control, Pro-Tyranny, Anti-LIberty, and Anti-Freedom.

In case you dummies haven’t noticed. Iran is Pro-Islam, Pro-Government Control, Pro-Tyranny, Anti-LIberty, and Anti-Freedom. And in case you Leftists are oblivious to the meaning of your own viewpoints, if you support Iran’s goal to obtain nuclear weapons, you are Pro-Islam, Pro-Government Control, Pro-Tyranny, Anti-LIberty, and Anti-Freedom.

Jonathan T. is no “Libertarian.” No genuine LIbertarian would support a Pro-Islam, Pro-Government Control, Pro-Tyranny, Anti-LIberty, and Anti-Freedom government like Iran that seeks to obtain nuclear weapons.

  28. 28 rafflaw 1, August 29, 2012 at 4:20 pm

What Frankly said. Lieberman is a disgrace to all Americans and his constant calls for war are disturbing if he was a private citizen. As a Senator, it is disgusting. I bet Ralph likes it, tho.

  32. 32 Bob Kauten 1, August 29, 2012 at 4:57 pm

Frankly’s prayer sounds like something with which Conan the Barbarian would beseech Crom. But Conan never said very much longer than:

“To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women.”

In a slightly different vein, he once said,

“Crom, I have never prayed to you before. I have no tongue for it. No one, not even you will remember, if we were good men, or bad. Why we fought, or how we died. No, all that matters is, that two stood against many. That’s what’s important. Valour pleases you Crom, so grant me one request, grant me revenge! And if you do not listen, then the hell with you!”

    Now, that’s a lord’s prayer I can get behind!

  33. 33 Bob Kauten 1, August 29, 2012 at 5:19 pm

    Ralph,
You’re getting lazier than a subcretin dummy.
    You pasted
    “Pro-Islam, Pro-Government Control, Pro-Tyranny, Anti-LIberty, and Anti-Freedom”
three times after your initial brilliant phrasing. In doing so, you repeated the typo capitol I (LIberty) all four times.

Falling in love with your own turgid prose is a really weird form of self-abuse. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
I suppose it’s pleasuring someone you love.

You were consistent, though. You used “Leftist” exactly 3 times, like all of your other posts do. Why did I notice this detail? When I read your posts, I have to have something to keep my mind occupied. Your posts are devoid of content.

I was able to find “subcretin” discussed only in the Central journal of homoeopathy. Is that where you got your education?
It shows, from your sophisticated use of the term “dummies.”

We Leftists, and I include you, Ralph, need a shorter, catchier phrase than “”Pro-Islam, Pro-Government Control, Pro-Tyranny, Anti-Liberty, and Anti-Freedom.” That’s a bit much to fit on a Tshirt. How about “I Love Pizza”?

@Bob Krauten, thank you for the Hamas point of view. And, at the same time, you completely evaded the truth of what I told you. That par for typical Leftist conduct: avoid, distort, lie, divert, and distract. I always expect such a response from the saponaceous, unctuous, and oleaginous wasteland of the Leftist subcretinous “mentality.” (You can look those words up later if you actually want to learn something. But if you don’t, I can understand. Actually learning things is something you, as a Leftist, would naturally abhor.)

  37. 37 Bob Kauten 1, August 29, 2012 at 6:30 pm

    Ralph Ardamo,
You’re welcome for the Hamas point of view. Did I get it right? You know so much about these fellows. How long were you with them? Was it an intimate relationship? Not that there’s anything wrong with that. Did they leave you at the altar? Poor little guy.

I believe that the 10-cent phrase you told me to look up means “soapy, oily, and oily wasteland of the Leftist subcretinous “mentality.”" Rather redundant, isn’t it? “Subcretinous” is not a word at all. Would you like me to look up “wasteland” and “mentality,” or are you old enough to find those, by yourself? Any more you’d like me to look up for you?

Oh, and you did use “Leftist” exactly three times again. Are your Leftist rants computer-generated?
Are you, by chance, a Spambot? That would explain so much.

It’s you and me against the world, Ralph. We Leftists must mutilate the millions of mindless minions for the next millenium. Venceremos!

Sen. Lieberman explained his support of John McCain at the 2008 Republican National Convention with the phrase “country matters more than party.” I have become increasingly convinced that the “country” he was referring to in that speech was Israel. If Mr. Netanyahu does indeed plan a military strike against Iran in advance of the upcoming presidential election, it will because he properly regards right-wing Christians in this country as useful idiots who will provide cover against any objections from the Obama administration. As far as I am concerned, however, should Israel pursue such a cynical, lame-brained strategy, we should tell it that it is on its own. Ralph Adamo can organize his own brigade and join the Israeli army. (Just don’t expect any of the Romney sons to sign up.)

  44. 45 Richard C 1, August 29, 2012 at 11:00 pm

Having lived less than 100 miles from Iran and visited Israel, the United States ought to recognize the natural lines that discern the political animosities. Iranians are Persians, and the Arabs have little time for them. Saudi Arabia certainly has a vested interest in the stability of Iran because Iran does pose a direct military threat to Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and the remainder of the Arab states in the Gulf region–as well as the oil routes out of the Persian Gulf. The Arabs also know that the Israelis will not stand idly by as they did with the Iraqi nuclear site they bombed many years ago–by overflying those Arab states. It would seem that if Iran is that big of a threat to the region and to the world, any effort to confront Iran would be by those closest to the problem. (It is also worth noting that Iran is building relations with the governments of Afghanistan and Iraq.) So, if there is a need for U.S. involvement in the Middle East because of Iran/Israel, it must be after the Saudis and the Israelis have expended all the U.S. armanments through Foreign Military Sales (as well as French and German weapon systems.)

“Leftist” seems to be such a derisive word to some. The opposite of leftist would be conservative and if I look up the successes of conservatism, they would fall like this. It was conservatives who were content with King George and didn’t want to revolt. It was conservatives who liked the idea that only the landed gentry–male landed gentry would have voting rights. It was the conservatives who fought against emancipation. It was conservatives who fought child labor laws, workplace safety laws, and collective bargaining. It was conservatives who fought the Civil Rights Acts. It was conservatives who fought Social Security. Hmmm, I rather like being called a leftist if that is the contrast I am faced with–Thank you!! If some would like to take it to the next higher level and use the word “socialist,” I would point out that those “socialist” nations of Europe that were involved in the Olympics–Great Britain being the most notable player–seemed quite pleasant places, and the people did not seem enslaved.

Some seem to have sipped the neo-con kool aid and think the United States is militarily inferior or weak. When I consider that the most recent defense budget puts the United States as the number 1 for spending on defense, it means that the United States spends as much as the next 17 nations combined. And, there are some who are really going to balk at this…the residual effects of Iraq and Afghanistan (PTSD, TBIs, disfigurement and disabilities) are yet to be felt. These are the men and women who will have no future except what the VA and other government programs will provide them. And to put a different face on the food stamps argument, the fastest growing population of recipients are disabled veterans and even some active duty service members…”Support the Troops!” buy a yellow ribbon!!!!!

  45. 46 Catullus 1, August 29, 2012 at 11:02 pm

Ralph–”No genuine LIbertarian would support a Pro-Islam, Pro-Government Control, Pro-Tyranny, Anti-LIberty, and Anti-Freedom government like Iran that seeks to obtain nuclear weapons.”

And no genuine Libertarian would support and interventionist foreign policy that seeks to involve the US in the overthrow of tyrannical regimes as that is a recipe for constant warfare. And besides, some of those tyrannical regimes such as Saudi Arabia are our best friends and buy a lot of hi-tech military gadgets from US corporations.

Obama is finalizing a new order of government that sadly had been started by the past presidents It;s called the “New World Order” and Since Obama has written new regulations and did some changes to our Bill of rights by eliminating some of our freedoms. Has enlarged the military as well the homeland security for our protection against the terrorist or it could be used against us if he doesn’t like how we treat him. He now has the power to kill anyone and that could mean Americans who he thinks is a terrorist, without asking for a just able cause of what that might be,if he feels it;s an act against him. And he since he feels he is a sure winner for the next election in Nov.. Who wants to vote for MIT Romney when he is the savior for all and will make sure that he is the permanent ruler where there will be no longer any more elections, And there will be more freedoms and liberties taken away.
