Speaking to the graduating class of U.S. Naval Academy, President Barack Obama told the graduates that the best way to protect our nation is to stand up to its principles. I discussed the detainee issue last night on this segment of Countdown.
President Obama stated: “We uphold our fundamental principles and values not just because we choose to, but because we swear to — not because they feel good, but because they help keep us safe, . . . When America strays from our values, it not only undermines the rule of law, it alienates us from our allies, it energizes our adversaries and it endangers our national security and the lives of our troops.”
If only the White House would match its actions to its rhetoric, this country would be able to regain our moral and legal leadership in this troubled world. He needs to guarantee a trial for all detainees and to investigate the U.S. torture program.

Enjoy!
Mespo,
You’ll forgive the glee with which I do this, but small minds always enjoy the downfall of their betters… (that after all is the appeal of the Greek tragedies).
Shouldn’t that be “Et Tu Rafflaw-e?”
rafflaw:
“I would call someone like Cherry a true Dick Cheney neocon.”
***************
Let’s shorten that to just “Dick.” I’m off to enjoy the weekend.
Mespo,
I missed answering your question. I would call someone like Cherry a true Dick Cheney neocon.
rafflaw:
Et tu, rafflaw-ius.
after reading the posts what was this thread about again?
and for cherry…the miltary respects the commander and chief regardless…once they take that uniform off they can speak their mind
for mr. turly,
what really abates here is the geneva conventions which was built from the (short title) Prussia/America treaty on treatment of prisoners of war in 1795…to the St. Petersbury Declaration of 1868…to the Hague Convention of 1907…to the Geneva Conventions 1949…to the Protocals of the Geneva Conventions 1977…the protocals were never signed by the United States
The Hague Conventions and the Geneva Conventions leaves an opening on whether someone who is a civilian (not qualified as a belligerent) committs a crime against the occupping miltary or a civlian attack… i think it means they can be dealt with in compentant civilian courts or compentant military courts
it’s been awhile since i have put all the in’s and out’s together to find a solution…but what remains is Gitmo was a bad idea from the beginning… the idea of torturing any detainee was a bad idea because after that point any evidence became tainted…
i found no word “enemy combantant” only “combantants” and civilians in the conventions…so, it seems as though this enemy combantant is another version of the Protocals
there is no easy answer…and i have only set forth a few points in this posts
this issue will continue…have a good memorial weekend
Mespo,
As we have seen here all too often, the trolls are here to distract attention and nothing else. Have a great “Enhanced Weekend”.
rafflaw:
What would you call persons, like “wild cherry” here, who take glee in the setbacks suffered by their Country and feel the need to post them for all the world to see?
rafflaw:
“cherry:
Where is your proof?”
************
In her rather dim imagination as you have amply demonstrated my friend.
Cherry,
I should suggest one more thing. If the representative sample is too small, where are your larger samples saying that the troops hate Obama? Where is your proof?
Cherry,
You still haven’t produced any documentation to back up your earlier claims. You have only shown that my figures were accurate and then you say the troops really hate Obama. Do you get tired of making this stuff up? How much are you getting paid to spread this disinformation?
rafflaw, our left wing huffington post lies don’t work with most people anymore.
Contributions from 292 soldiers deployed abroad is hardly a representative sample of all deployed troops no matter how many times left wing bloggers post the 6 to one Bull Crap on the internet.
134 soldiers donated $60,642 to Obama, 99 soldiers donated $45,512 to Ron Paul, 26 soldiers donated $10,655 to McCain, and a few dozen others donated to Clinton, etc.
Nice try screwball. Obama is despised by most in the Military already.
Dollar hits ’09 low on debt fears; stocks dip
Friday May 22, 2009
LONDON (Reuters) – The dollar fell to a 2009 low on Friday as fears intensified that the United States could lose its triple-A rating over deficit spending.
The dollar’s latest decline started when ratings agency Standard & Poor’s stoked fears that American unending deficits and higher taxes will make for a less competitive American economy in the world.
cherry:
“Can’t wait for the pictures of graduates turning their back on Obama at these graduations start circulating.”

While you obviously have no sense of honor, respect, or dignity, the young men and women at our service academies, for the most part, do indeed. I suggest you worry less about their decorum than their safety when placed by creatures such as you in harms way for much less than honorable reasons. Each casualty is another indictment against the men and women whose infamy put them there.
cherry,
are you trying to say don’t ask, don;t tell? or maybe in your case Hell hath no fury like a pissed queen? Go to Greenwich much?
I had thought it was the Whig party to start. But I googled it and found out that they had both Democratic and Republican names. Utilizing both names as they became opposed to the national banking system. It is still over money once again.
But I was wrong in my info an corrected my post before I posted.
Can’t wait for the pictures of graduates turning their back on Obama at these graduations start circulating. But I suppose lefties will grab them right away and photo shop them.
Wow, hell hath no fury like the ONE spitting in the eyes of the left wing losers that went to bat for him!
rafflaw, you gotta be kidding me!

Whoa, bad media, stiffing little kids. waytogo Bama baby:
NBC reports that a group of kindergartners from Stafford County, Virginia were turned away at the gate on Thursday morning for being too late for their White House tour.
****************************
At least the WhiteHouse is again open to ordinary citizen too and not just the wealthy. That is wonderful, I had missed that blog.
Sorry that they were late.
