Oklahoma Legislature to Consider Proclamation Linking the Economic Crisis to Obama’s Immoral Policies

about_1Recently, Rush Limbaugh explained how Obama economic policies were the cause of Republican Gov. Mark Sanford’s affair with a beautiful Argentinian woman. But what caused the economic problems that caused the stimulus package that aroused Gov. Sanford? Oklahoma Rep. Sally Kern has finally answered that question: our sins. Kern has drafted a resolution that puts the current economic crisis squarely on the backs of libertines and godless people who have produced a moral crisis. This includes Obama’s refusal to “uphold the long held tradition of past presidents in recognition of our National Day of Prayer.”


You may recall Kern from his viral video ranting about gays, here. Now, she has gone macro economic in showing how free sex can destroy the free market. It is like the lost chapter of Adam Smith’s An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations. Of course, one must remember that, like his successor Kern, Smith held forth on both moral and economic theories with his publication The Theory of Moral Sentiments. 200px-AdamSmith [Richard Posner’s Economics and Reason doesn’t count and proved far less exciting than its title].

In the resolution below, Kern’s resolution declares in pertinent part:

WHEREAS, we believe our economic woes are consequences of our greater national moral crisis; and
WHEREAS, this nation has become a world leader in promoting abortion,
pornography, same sex marriage, sex trafficking, divorce, illegitimate births, child abuse, and many other forms of debauchery; and
WHEREAS, alarmed that the Government of the United States of America is forsaking the rich Christian heritage upon which this nation was built; and
WHEREAS, grieved that the Office of the president of these United States has refused to uphold the long held tradition of past presidents in giving recognition to our National Day of Prayer; and
WHEREAS, deeply disturbed that the Office of the president of these United States disregards the biblical admonitions to live clean and pure lives by proclaiming an entire month to an immoral behavior;

It appears that divorce is “a form of debauchery.” It is a bit harder to explain the cause and effect between the Giuliani divorces, which appear to occur regularly in good or bad economic times.

Of course, one has to ignore that fact that the crisis began under President George Bush who was a favorite of the religious right. Obviously, there was a bit of anticipatory economic damnation. Ironically, in a recent article in the Washington Post, it was disclosed how both Sen. Jon Ensign and Sanford frequented a little known house on Capitol Hill dedicated to prayer and specifically the National Prayer Day.

The main concern is how the continuing economic crisis will unravel other GOP leaders and push them into the arms of temptation. What is the danger for innocent bystanders or pets if the bond market continues to decline? Indeed, if Obama knew of this link between free sex and the free market, this may have been the plan all along. Knowing that Republicans become sexually and immorally active during economic downturns, Obama and his minions may have triggered the economic crisis to shutdown the GOP. Such leaders may be adapting the very same love/suicide pattern as the praying mantis.

After her first session in office, Sally was voted “Outstanding Lawmaker of the Year 2005” by the Oklahoma Conservative Political Action Committee (OCPAC) for her conservative voting record. OCPAC also voted Sally “Runner Up Lawmaker of the Year 2005.” In April of 2008, Sally was honored as the first ever recipient of the Family Research Council’s (FCR) “Champion of Faith, Family, and Freedom Award.” OCPAC has again voted Sally “Runner Up Lawmaker of the Year 2008.”

So let’s recap the current state of analysis. President Obama triggered the economic crisis (which began in anticipation of his election under President Bush) which prompted Congress to pass the stimulus legislation that caused Sanford to fly to Argentina to sleep with a woman other than his wife.

OKLAHOMA CITIZEN’S PROCLAMATION FOR MORALITY

We the People of Oklahoma, Invoking the guidance of Almighty God, in order to secure and perpetuate the blessing of Liberty; to secure just and rightful Government; to promote our mutual Welfare and Happiness, do establish this proclamation and call upon the people of the great State of Oklahoma, and our fellow Patriots in these United States of America who look to the Lord for guidance, to acknowledge the need for a national awakening of righteousness in our land.

WHEREAS, “It is Religion and Morality alone, which can establish the Principles upon which Freedom can securely stand” (John Adams); and

WHEREAS, “We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by Religion and Morality” (John Adams); and

WHEREAS, “Our Constitution was made only for a Moral and Religious people” (John Adams); and

WHEREAS, “We have staked the whole future of American civilization, not upon the power of government…but upon the capacity of mankind for self-government, upon the capacity of each and all of us to govern ourselves, to control ourselves, to sustain ourselves according to the Ten Commandments of God” (James Madison); and

WHEREAS, “Freedom is not a gift bestowed upon us by other men, but a right that belongs to us by the laws of God (Benjamin Franklin); and

WHEREAS, “God who gave us life gave us liberty and can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are of the Gift of God” (Thomas Jefferson); and

WHEREAS, “Whether any free government can be permanent, where the public worship of God, and the support of Religion, constitute no part of the policy or duty of the state” (Joseph Story); and

WHEREAS, “We hold sacred the rights of conscience, and promise to the people…the free and undisturbed exercise of their religion” (Roger Sherman); and

WHEREAS, “This great nation was founded, not by religionists, but by Christians” (Patrick Henry); and

WHEREAS, “When you…exercise the right of voting for public officers, let it be impressed upon your mind that God commands you to choose just men who will rule in the fear of God” (Noah Webster); and

WHEREAS, “The principles of genuine Liberty and of wise laws and administrations are to be drawn from the Bible” (Noah Webster); and

WHEREAS, the people of Oklahoma have a strong tradition of reliance upon the Creator of the Universe; and

WHEREAS, we believe our economic woes are consequences of our greater national moral crisis; and

WHEREAS, this nation has become a world leader in promoting abortion, pornography, same sex marriage, sex trafficking, divorce, illegitimate births, child abuse, and many other forms of debauchery; and

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that we the undersigned elected officials of the people of Oklahoma, religious leaders and citizens of the State of Oklahoma, appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world, solemnly declare that the HOPE of the great State of Oklahoma and of these United States, rests upon the Principles of Religion and Morality as put forth in the HOLY BIBLE; and

BE IT RESOLVED that we, the undersigned, believers in the One True God and His only Son, call upon all to join with us in recognizing that “Blessed is the Nation whose God is the Lord,” and humbly implore all who love Truth and Virtue to live above reproach in the sight of God and man with a firm reliance on the leadership and protection of Almighty God; and

BE IT RESOLVED that we, the undersigned, humbly call upon Holy God, our Creator, Sustainer, and Redeemer, to have mercy on this nation, to stay His hand of judgment, and grant a national awakening of righteousness and Christian renewal as we repent of our great sin.

    I think you mean to say we’re the “most literate people I’ve ever met,” though, of course, we haven’t met you. Conservatives, who generally can’t handle proper syntax or sentence structure on their computers or anywhere else for that matter, are usually precluded from this activity due to the horrible scars on their hands. You see, dragging their knuckles on the ground so much tends to do this. Thanks for your prescient, though convoluted commentary on those you do not know.

This just makes me proud to be from Oklahoma! “Where the wind comes sweeping down the plains”, and apparently where certifiably crazy politicians attempt to legislate utterly insane nonsense and expect the rest of us to believe that they are actually standing up for truth and righteousness. What’s really incredible is that they actually believe this stuff! They even believe that they are “humble” servants of the lord, and that atheists and agnostics are brazenly “arrogant” for simply proclaiming that they sincerely doubt other folks’ unsupportable claims about miracles. I would suggest that they don’t even know the meanings of those words. Or at least they don’t understand that the word “arrogant” applies to their behavior, and the word “humble” actually applies to the skeptical atheist or agnostic who admits that he/she does not know the truth about the Universe and Mankind’s place in it. Devoutly religious people tacitly claim to know the Truth, despite the total lack of evidence in support of their claims. The sort of self-righteous nonsensical drivel on display here, and the places of power that its’ proponents so often speak from (almost always from far-right Republicans, although there are plenty of self-deluded Democrats as well) make me and others fearful for the future of this planet. Oklahoma State Rep. Sally Kern (R) and her ideological comrades are in reality no better intellectually, or even morally, than crazy Islamists who believe that they must convert the world to Islam, or else slay or enslave anyone who won’t succumb. Both world views come from an ideology of intolerance, fear, and hatred – definitely not from a place of reason, compassion, empathy, and yes, love. Where do such people get the idea that it is acceptable to suspend the very concepts of reason, evidence, and rational discussion when the subject turns to ethics, morality, and even spirituality? It’s very sad that the world is still saddled with such outright lunacy posing as morality, and that there are so few people who will stand up to proclaim that the religious far-right’s understanding of ethics and morality is fundamentally and fatally flawed.
    Here’s a couple of questions that are desperately in need of answers:
    1. How do we (collectively – as christians, jews, muslims, hindus, agnostics, atheists, etc.) fully engage in conversation about these issues with our business associates, friends and neighbors – who often don’t share our specific beliefs (or lack thereof) – without jeopardizing our business / social relationships and friendships? This is a politically incorrect subject, but I believe it is desperately in need of a massive public airing.
    2. Specifically for those of us who do not harbor religious certainties: How do we engage in in-depth conversation on these subjects with our friends and business colleagues who are otherwise smart, reasonable and friendly people – but who have a partition set up in their minds on the other side of which resides their belief in unjustifiable religious “wishful thinking” – without jeopardizing our relationships and friendships?

    Say what??????? How so???? She presumably took an Oath of Office to uphold the laws of the state of Oklahoma and the US. So if what she is proposing is against that Oath. Change it. Other wise she can and should be impeached for dereliction of duty.

    Texas can be a very fine place to visit. It can also be a good ideal to avoid Gay Bars in Ft Worth when the cops are doing sobriety checks in the bars.

  14. I am not a native Texan, but you cannot compare it to Oklahoma. Obama won Dallas County 57-42. Texas has received so many immigrants from Asia, Latin America, the midwest and the northeast in the last ten years that it has really changed the make-up of the population.

  17. Somehow, the phrase “dumb as a sack of hammers” floated to mind while reading this story. It’s an apt description of Rep. Kern and all the Oklahoma cornservatives who put her in office. What outrageous insanity is next from this witless band of know-nothings? Will Obama be blamed for the murder of Franz Ferdinand in 1914 and the stock market crash of ’29?
