State Court Strikes Down Oklahoma Abortion Law Requiring Ultrasound

image1804180px-Baby_in_ultrasoundOklahoma County District Judge Vicki L. Robertson has struck down that state’s 2008 law requiring doctors to perform ultrasounds and offer women detailed information about the tests before performing abortions. The law was challenged as an effort to harass and deter women from obtaining abortions.

The law required the doctors to describe the image in detail, including organs and extremities, even over the objections of the woman.

An appeal is expected.

Its’ supporters, of both sexes, are essentially fundamentalist
misogynists. The truth would be shown if laws were passed saying that the father of a child born out of wedlock must give 25% of all his future income and current/future assets to his child. Some good ol’ boys might have to sell their muscle cars. The hypocrites would melt away.

while you make a valuable point Mike, this is about all women, married and single. amazing how some men seem to need to impregnate their wives just as their youngest kid goes into 1st grade and she is thinking about going to work or school.

    Patty C,
I do all the cooking around here. My wife, who is a terrific cook in her own right, has somehow managed to convince me that I should handle it all. I’m not in your class or Mespo’s chef wise so last night it was my low fat meatloaf and no fat mashed potatoes.

Knowing you, I’ll bet you’ve learned much and have become very resourceful in the process of dealing with any culinary challenges. In my kitchen, we do it by choice more often than we don’t.

Vegetables and fruits deliver distinct flavors, salt, and natural sweeteners like tomatoes, celery, and apples besides nutrients.

Potatoes are tough without salt and butter. Garlic nuked in a little olive oil definitely helps with a lot of things. How about yogurt and chives?

I make loads of tomatoey dishes that I am able to ‘sweeten’ with fresh broad leaf parsley, basil, thyme, and oregano, proteins (meats and beans), and almost routinely add a pinch of ‘sugar(s)’
    – to cut down on acidic taste without adding more salt. It works for me.

Several varieties of mushroom, if you like them, can be a surprisingly versatile, ‘meaty’, and tasty alternative to using beef.

We also enjoy spiced foods quite often so I know my chile peppers, powders, and curries etc.

You can also skim off a LOTS of the natural fat used in preparation just by putting the pot in the fridge after it’s cooled for a bit and letting it congeal on top. If you’ve ever made chicken or turkey soup from scratch, you know it can be a very significant amount!

Mespo and I also both really enjoy cooking. To be sure, it’s one of the many reasons we get along so well. It’s fun!

I’d love for Rachel to help launch MSNBC’s ‘Sidebar’ in his brand new kitchen in addition to those ‘Cocktail moments’ with Kent! 😉

    Wouldn’t you?

  3. Patty C,

I’m not in your class or Mespo’s chef wise so last night it was my low fat meatloaf and no fat mashed potatoes. I also use almost no salt in my cooking so that is a challenge. The hard thing with a low fat meatloaf is developing a good sauce for it. For that I use tomatoes and red onions, with a bit of chopped meat (96% fat free), shallots, garlic and no salt beef broth. Due to cardio myopathy, don’t ask, the very low salt diet is necessary and with the low fat cooking I find I’ve lost the extra poundage, while at the same time eating things I really love like chopped meat and potatoes. The only thing I’ve given up is good steak, but since I love fish and salads, I don’t really miss it. Every once in a while though I get a mind’s image of a thick, well marbled and very rare Rib Steak, but my common sense controls.

That was Michelle Bachmann wanting to keep Govmint hands off her body.

    I stand corrected!

Mike S.- Bon Appetit! Are you chefing? It’s almost too ‘hot’ to cook. ‘Summer’, in Maine, is almost over and it seems to have just started!

Salads fresh from the garden are very big around here, lately.

    Gyges,
    100%.

And with Michelle “Congress has no right to control my body” Malkin, as spokesperson, no doubt.

    ~per KO last evening… 😉

  6. I was distracted by just how cool KT Tunstall’s live versions of Big Black Horse and Cherry Tree are.

That should read, “…not quite sure they all are…”

  7. I’d just like to clarify that I understand that being against one set of regulation doesn’t mean that you have to be against ALL types of regulation. I’m not quite sure all , but hey, maybe their barber is a really good dentist. O.k. I’m done.

On topic. I’m with Mike. I’m not anti-police, but I’d rather live in a world where they weren’t necessary. To often we let others paint us into rhetorical corners.

  8. How many people that supported this law do you suppose are now chanting “keep the government out of my health-care?”

  9. I’m for abortion if that is the choice of the potential Mother. I state that unequivocally because part of the work of the anti abortion movement has been to force people to go on record being against abortion per se, but supporting a woman’s right to choose. It cannot be overemphasized and I will do it again and again if need be. The anti-abortion movement is not about babies, it is about punishing single women who have sex drives.

  10. Let me start this with I am not For Abortion or Against it. I think that the Government has no right to legislate in this area. It is purely a choice of the woman and her doctor.

I do have some feelings about the sperm donor having a say, but that is a different topic for a different day.

It appears that this Judge is saying that the law as written is tooooo restrictive.

  11. One simple question for those considering an appeal.

    Medical necessity?

    Yeah.

    Didn’t thinks so.
