Kiana Firouz: Give Her Asylum!

Iranian lesbian activist Kiana Firouz has released a breakthrough film at risk to her own life — detailing her struggle as a lesbian in Iran. She is now fighting for asylum in England and the world’s community should be heard in support of the petition.

With its lesbian sex scenes and admissions, Firouz would be subject to the death penalty in Iran. We have already seen how gleeful Iranian Sharia courts are in dispatching homosexuals, here and here.

The trailer of the film is below and it would make a trial in Iran a relatively short affair. However, when Firouz applied for refugee status in the UK, she was rejected.

  1. Toots:

Thank you for once again displaying that most christian of traits – compassion.

  2. Woosty: I’m sorry, but Muslims have a habit of becoming very bad citizens in western countries. I wish for her that her country becomes better. I hope she gets out.

But it is a very bad thing for Muslims to go to western lands. They don’t fit in. She won’t be happy there (if she is still a Muslims) and will turn against it. It happens all the time, and that is my main point. Muslims are an unreliable immigrant group in general and for our safety they have to be considered a threat.

No one coming from that part of the world can be trusted right now. Like I say, perhaps a non-western nation can take her. But, I don’t make these decisions.

  3. vlf,

What you implied about brick walls is a terrible to thing to say about brick walls. At least they have some utility.

  4. Oh please, JT. How could you post such a thing when you know full well that there are no gay people in Iran. Didn’t you get the memo?

  5. “The Merry Minuet” Hmm, that means that these lyrics are a bit derivitive.

Well the Yanks hate the Reds
And the Greeks hate the Turks
I really hate to say it
But they’re all a bunch of jerks
    Seems like everybody’s shakin’
‘Cause the big one’s ’bout to fall
I’m just tryin’ to hold it steady while I

  6. I can confirm that she’s incredibly brave! She’s already had the attentions of the Iranian state ‘extra muros’ + her family have suffered.

But she’s not the only one (and she knows it!), and I would refer people to my earlier comment and the UK’s attitude to LGBT asylum generally. S’not good …
