Wyoming Governor Dave Freudenthal has turned to a novel approach to secure more federal money: threatening to destroy one of the nation’s most treasured wilderness areas if the Obama Administration doesn’t give him more educational funds.
Freudenthal is threatening to sell off land valued at $125m (£80m) in the Grand Teton National Park. Notably, this is land donated by John Rockefeller Jr. to be preserved but that state appears to control some portions of the areas. It currently leases the land to a cattle rancher. Freudenthal has tried persuasion so he is now turning to extortion: “If the federal government won’t dance with us, we will go look for another partner. The purpose is to force the federal government to come to the table.”
What is amazing is that the Administration has already offered a swap of a huge 800,000 acres of federal land for the pristine area, but the state declared it “trash land” and insisted that they would prefer to sell the “prime, in-park real estate” to some developer to bulldoze. Freudenthal scoffed “this ain’t our first county fair.”

libhomo: there isn’t enough money held by the rich to cover the deprave, criminal, and psychotic spending Democrats have saddle the American people with.
Unfunded mandates are probably over 27 trillion dollars.
For anyone to think rich people ought to pay for Democrats’ criminal agenda would make them an accessory. It is like approaching someone with gun and telling them to hand over their money.
The federal government was NEVER to have all the power to define the limits of it own power (this is called arbitrary absolute power and it is the kind of power our framers were rejecting). The States and the people have the power to decide the limits of federal power, not the other way around.
If you knew anything about our founding you would know this.
The American people want Democrats to stop their criminal Marxist enterprise called plundering the treasure of the American people for politicians personal power.
If it doesn’t stop it will provoke secession. Then the greedy little democrats will have no one to pay for their criminal scheme.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/08/10/house-clears-261-billion_n_677345.html Finally some state aid for education passed although the republicans attempted to block it.
Hmmm.. Playing hardball against Rahm Emanuel. He’s a total pushover – he’d never do anything like, say, give them their education funds, but hold up their highway funding… I’m sure this will end well for Wyoming.
Like most “red states”, Wyoming is a welfare recipient – it gets more money back from DC each year than it pays in. (Unlike all of us capitalism-hating, lazy Democrats in states like CA, NY, WI, IL, MN and so on who pay much more into the federal government than we get back.)
Think about all the bad stereotypes of “mooches” and “welfare queens”, and then think about what this guy is threatening in that context….
(I should say that I love Wyoming. Large portions of the state rank among my favorite places on earth.)
Democratic Wyoming Governor Dave Freudenthal is doing what all political maggots do, threaten something (usually schools or fire and police) with cuts or closures in order to squeeze more tax dollars out of the citizenry. Just like we saw in East St.Louis.
How many teabaggers do you think support this moran? And how many more do you think feel this is perfectly justified? STOP TAXING US!!! GIVE US MORE MONEY NOW DAMMIT!!!
Hello!? why are we in this handcart & where are we going?

Lets see. If my understanding is still correct. If it is giving for a specific purpose and it is no longer used for that purpose does not the fee holder suffer a loss of interest and it reverts back to the estate of the original grantor?

heh… heh … I like it!

But then again, hey, I am breaking out in a song:
They paved paradise and put up a parking lot,
With a pink hotel, a boutique,
And a swinging hot spot.
Don’t it always seem to go
That you don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone?
They paved paradise and put up a parking lot.
They took all the trees and put them in a tree museum.
And they charged all the people
A dollar and a half just to see ’em.
Don’t it always seem to go
That you don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone?
They paved paradise and put up a parking lot.
Joni Mitchells’ trip to Hawaii……was the origin of this song
So Freudenthal wants to cut off his nose to spite his face.
There’s no money dude, except of course for the money the rich cats have who want to buy the land.
The Bush tax cuts are killing us … and the Bush wars in Iraq and Afghanistan aren’t helping either … who would have thought that Obama would be such a fan of Bush ways.
If the rich paid their fair share in taxes, there wouldn’t be these budget problems.
Well said, mespo727272.

Perhaps the universal eligibility of adults to hold elective office isn’t such a good idea in our society.
I posted this to the “library” thread, but feel that it bears repeating:

What(a)collapsing empire looks like (by Glenn Greenwald)
http://www.salon.com/news/opinion/glenn_greenwald/
From the article:
“Meanwhile, needing to squeeze someone, most emerging-market governments look first to ordinary working folk — at least until the riots grow too large.”
“The real question is whether the American public is too apathetic and trained into submission for that to ever happen.”
And then there’s the 2 trillion dollars for which the DOD allegedly cannot account — money spent in from 2001 to 2006, reportedly.
Well, have they thought about a dumping ground for Canadian waste? Nah, Michigan already has that exclusive right…now that’s an eclectic thought….
