Flying While Muslim: Comair Throws Muslim Family Off Flight As Possible Threat

A Muslim family flying from Memphis to Toronto was thrown off a Comair flight because a flight attendant was concerned over safety. The family was dressed in traditional Muslim clothing.


The flight attendant became suspicious when the father spent an extended period of time in the bathroom before take off and then she discovered the toilet was broken. She alerted the authorities on that basis and the plane was called back from the runway and the family ejected.

Scott Brockman, Memphis International Airport’s Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer explained “My understanding is they were dressed in attire that would indicate some Muslim type religion.” I am not sure now many “Muslim type religion[s]” there are but Comair insists that this has nothing to do with the fact that they were wearing traditional Muslim clothing. It appears that if you linger too long in the bathroom (which might have something to do with the fact that the toilet was broken), you are likely to be thrown off a flight with Comair.

The family was allowed on a later flight (and presumably avoided the bathroom).

Comair is a subsidiary of Delta.

    Gerrymandering was named after Elbridge Gerry–who was born in Marblehead, the town where I taught for many years. He was a governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and served as the fifth Vice President of the United States.

    Clinton was an hour late for the Tuesday afternoon rally at the Palmer House and droned on for another hour, sending dozens of the few hundred Democrats in attendance for the exits.

    Secretary of State Hillary Clinton departed Washington on Wednesday for a two-week Asia trip meant to shore up US ties with its Pacific neighbors.

    Clinton departed Washington for her first stop, Hawaii, before traveling on to Vietnam, China, Cambodia, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, New Zealand, Australia and American Samoa.

    While in Honolulu, Clinton is to meet with Japanese Foreign Minister Seiji Maehara, whose country is embroiled in a spat with China over a disputed island chain in the East China Sea. She also is to give a speech on policy toward Asia.

    Wonder how tempted she is to stop at the DOH on her first stop.

    The republicans tried that with Brown when he was serving in the U S House of Rep in 2001: In 2001, the Republican-controlled legislature threatened to draw Brown’s district out from under him. Brown threatened to run for governor in 2002 against incumbent Bob Taft. The Republicans backed down, and in fact made his district even more heavily Democratic by adding most of Akron and drawing out Geauga and Portage counties.

    Brown knows how to handle republicans … he and Dennis on a ticket for Pres and Vice Pres would be a dream come true.

  4. Blouise Tom DeLay’s redistricing plan made the political landscape really awful around here. The gerrymandering was unbelievable.

    I’m fortunate enough to be represented by Brown in the Senate and Sutton in the House … Dennis represents the district next door … life is good in my neck of the woods (Boehmer is way west of me but if the winds are particularly strong one can catch a whiff of the rot.)

    I was thinking more of the “teabagger” types and stopped after naming a few states but left it open because all states could be named … here in Ohio we have minorities serving in almost every elected office but we also have a large contingent of teabaggers, and then, of course, Iott, Boehmer, and the screamer down in Stark County …

  9. “Christmas bomber”, excessive time in bathroom, toilet damaged. Nothing here, move along.

    I want that alert flight attendant on my next flight.

  11. For the same reasons we could ban:

    – caucasian whites from banks, insurance companies and hedging firms
    – catholic priests from schools, playgrounds and streets
    – contemporary republicans from holding any public office, buying a gun

    As George Carlin said: “Nowadays you don’t even have to commit crime. They can arrest you as soon as they think you’re going to commit one… Well, had we known that a little sooner, we could have sent all those elected republican assholes directly into prison.”

  14. Blouise It’s not really that way in Texas in urban areas. We have one of the larger muslim populations in the country. We also have one of the largest asian and southeast asian populations. Include the large latino population and the african americans, and we are are a majority minority state. There are many muslims working in airport security at DFW. I have a latina woman running for my state rep.

  16. More attempts at establishing Muslim-free zones. The teabaggers of the American Taliban keep making it more like Iraq everyday. Catholic cult over here. Muslim cult over there. Mormons and Scientologists together over there. How do we divide up all those Protestant cults?

    Anyone have an update on the Catholic-free zone being attempted by the ranchers in Wyo trying to stop the building of a monastery?

This is the same fail as Juan Williams, any potential jihadist who might actually be a danger on the flight is NOT GOING TO ADVERTISE themselves, they would dress western – and every recorded person who made such attempts have done. It’s ridiculous to single these people out, if anything they’re guaranteed to be harmless.
