Remember when Obama energy advisor Carol Browner assured the public that the oil from the BP spill has miraculously disappeared after criticism of Obama’s opening up the pristine areas of Eastern coast to exploration? Well, the Administration is still at odds with scientists who insist that the damage is devastating.
A leading scientist, Samantha Joye of University of Georgia has released video and slide evidence that the oil is not degrading despite continued assurances from the Obama Administration that the oil has largely dissipated. She insists that the Administration’s magic microbes” have “consumed maybe 10 percent of the total discharge, the rest of it we don’t know . . . there’s a lot of it out there.” Both the Administration and a BP scientist with a grant from BP insist that most of the oil is gone.
Yet, Joye and colleagues took 250 cores of the sea floor and travelled across 2,600 square miles. They also show pictures of totally dead areas as well as extremely high levels of methane — something they insist is being ignored by the effort to leave a rosy picture of the spill and “miracle” recovery.
Kenneth Feinberg, the government’s oil compensation fund czar, insisted that the Gulf of Mexico would almost fully recover by 2012. The scientists insist that this is simply wrong and a continuing underestimation of the damage caused by the spill.

We have a new, exhaustive report by academics that says the sea floor around the Macondo well is dead with a lot of oil on the bottom, yet we still have formerly respected scientists like Lubchenco, who now work for the government, issuing confusing, if not conflicting statements claiming the contrary based on little, if any credible research. And, in the midst of this continuing crisis, we see little to no interest from the media about the tragedy and destruction. To my knowledge, this is the first rigorous study done of the sea floor that has been made public. It’s not surprising that it directly contradicts the claims made by the US government over the last six months that everything in the Gulf is okey-dokey.

In any event Blah, blah, blah,… 91,000 claims filed with the BP compensation commission and only 1 settled so far, the law firm doing the work is getting $850,000.00 a month to do the investigation/disbursement. I’m thinking Mr. Feinberg has sold his soul to the devil.
I’m also not happy with the Obama administration telling the Pentagon to buy more Gulf seafood and feed it to the troops. That just props up the Gulf economy and benefits the oil companies that are at fault. It makes it appear that the damage is not significant and the crisis in the fishing industry is over. That matters for compensation claims as well as any claims where duration and severity of the impact is a basis or mitigating factor. IMO the President and his administration have sold their souls to the devil too.

Woosty, I read about the Gulf Stream being ‘stuck’ and followed up some weeks later to see if I could find any info and didn’t find anything. I’d also like a follow-up on whatever was going on.

Great song! I remember it well. This is just one more example of the power of the corporation. The administration’s stand can be summarized with this phrase, “ignore the man behind the curtain”. I think we should all incorporate and then we will have more influence with our elected officials.
I’ve read some speculation of the gulfstream being ‘dead’ or slowed and contributing to the weather changes recently….I just don’t see any sources for studies that I would trust….anyone else see anything?

It’s a shame that this great agrarian nation allows itself to be lied to and polluted by these oil criminals both foreign and domestic when over night if we were to lift the ridiculous ban on Industrial Hemp not marijuana but Hemp, we could employ and develop Flex Fuel Vehicles and cut our oil consumption by 50% in a few year easily..
Industrial Hemp would give us Cellulose Ethanol and also Bio-diesel from it’s numerous seeds as well, it Renews every 4 months and you can pack an acre with it as there is no need to grow it in rows.. This could then be refined or distilled regionally thus enhancing American National Security were as our refineries are now all packed into 3 dense regions and easy targets for any aggressor or even terror attack if the latter hasn’t already occurred and been kept from our nation’s attention as I suspect…

It may have been caught up by the GULF-STREAM and so is transported to the European coasts where it, due to shallower waters ,will re-surface ,evaporate and come down as rain-or snow.
