Protesting Mom Called “More Disgusting Than Any Of These Filths Down On Wall Street”

I saw this amazing clip this weekend from FOX where the anchors attacked a women because she left her kids with family and friends to participate in the Occupy Wall Street protests.

The mother, Stacey Hessler of Florida, was saying that she felt this was a historic moment for citizens to take to the streets. It is funny how such commitment is inspiring in those who share your views, but disgusting for those who do not.

The New York Post has a decidedly negative profile of her, though it seems short on independent sources. What is striking about the Fox report is the view that any mother who leaves her children to join such a protest is “filth.”

    I can’t imagine that any true patriot would be using drugs during their free time! Swarthmore Mom got it right. I think the word hypocrisy comes to my mind if you think that illegal substances are used only by the Left.

    It’s not just the tax’s, it’s the charitable giving that es on to Police departments that gets you the kind of service you want.

    DISINFO- Wondering how much it costs to buy off the police department? In June of 2011, JP Morgan Chase gave the New York City Police Foundation the largest donation in its history. How the police show their gratitude will presumably determine whether they receive similar donations from companies in the future.

    Interestingly Tex and I were having this same discussion last night with a group except we were all remarking on the parents from a poor background having moved into the middle class through hard work getting an education and then developing a career and the sense of entitlement and selfishness their children displayed. We might be looking at something that is generational rather than monetary or class.

    “Proving that Mayor Bloomberg enjoys dancing on the razor’s edge of public opinion, Hizzoner told reporters yesterday that he doesn’t believe the Occupy Wall Street tents set up in Zuccotti Park are considered protected speech. “I’m 100 percent in favor of protecting—1,000 percent in favor—of giving people rights to say things, but also we have to protect those who don’t want to say anything,” Bloomberg said.”

  15. Mike, I read a journal article once about studies done on the children of wealthy people where the parents were self-made people. The parents were found to be generally socially conscious and well adjusted. The children tended to be self centered with strong feelings of entitlement.

    I guess it works that way in politics too.

    The last two governors of NY have been sons of rightfully revered political figures. It is a pity that neither has their fathers stature or perspective.

  18. In Albany, New York Gov. Cuomo tried to get the mayor to crack down on demonstrators. Mayor refused and both the city and state police would not arrest peaceful protestors. The Governor has a police revolt on his hands. I just hope it spreads, but will not hold my breath.

    In a tense battle of wills, state troopers and Albany police held off making arrests of dozens of protesters near the Capitol over the weekend even as Albany’s mayor, under pressure from Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s administration, had urged his police chief to enforce a city curfew.

    “We were ready to make arrests if needed, but these people complied with our orders,” a State Police official said. However, he added that State Police supported the defiant posture of Albany police leaders to hold off making arrests for the low-level offense of trespassing, in part because of concern it could incite a riot or draw thousands of protesters in a backlash that could endanger police and the public.

    “We don’t have those resources, and these people were not causing trouble,” the official said. “The bottom line is the police know policing, not the governor and not the mayor.”

    A city police source said his department also was reluctant to damage what he considers to be good community relations that have taken years to rebuild. In addition, the crowd included elderly people and many others who brought their children with them.

    “There was a lot of discussion about how it would look if we started pulling people away from their kids and arresting them … and then what do we do with the children?” one officer said.

    Joshua Vlasto, a spokesman for Cuomo, did not respond directly to questions about contact between Cuomo’s secretary, Larry Schwartz, and Jennings. “The state is working collaboratively with the city to enforce the curfew,” Vlasto said in a statement Friday evening.
