This video shows an extraordinary confrontation between cleric Yousuf Badri and host Riham Said over whether Riham Said needs to wear the veil. As Egypt becomes more radicalized, it takes considerable bravery to stand up in this way and charge a leading cleric with hypocrisy.
Notably, the host charges that the cleric had no problem speaking with her and other women without the veil before the cameras were turned on. She also slams him for demanding money to be interviewed. Notably, he responds at one point with by saying that he will shut the program down.
She appears to be referring to the view among many Muslims that Mohammad never said that women must wear the hijab and that passages cited by clerics actually refer to the need for Muslim women to be dress modestly. There is a similar debate over the need for separation of men and women.

Bron: Unlike WWII, I am not certain that the world would be much different if Korea had become communist. Just like Russia and China, in my opinion Communism is just an ideology in extreme conflict with human nature. (So are unregulated markets). Communism may sound aspirational to many, but without a dictatorial regime I think the economy is destined to collapse under the load of free riders.
It really is human nature that we need carrots AND sticks to work; if you take away the carrots, all that is left is being beaten with sticks. If you take away the sticks, all that is left is unrestrained greed that results in exploitation to the point of effective slavery. (IMO.)
Ultimately that is what really beat the Soviets, their economy was just dismal, despite relatively brutal oversight.
I am not so sure Korea was a necessary fight; I think that was pretty much just a testosterone driven pissing contest.

Bron: They send babies to kill babies
Since the frontal cortex (the seat of rationality) is not functionally mature until at least 21 (and 23 is a better typical age), I do not believe people are fully rational adults until at least 21: So I think that we do pretty much the same, we send kids into battle.

Bron,
Your irony and snark meters need recalibrating.
randy jet:
I think you have been drinking too much this morning. The Japanese were not on a goodwill flight. It was a joint excercise with the Pacific Fleet and the bombing coordinates got messed up when converted to Japanese.
You need to get your facts straight.
Tony C:
I agree with you, no way out of that one. And probably not Korea either.
Tony C.,
I am with you 100 per cent on this one…. But bare in mind that we were going to stay out of it…. Why, because if we had entered it when it first came to pass we would have been over taken….. That is one of the reasons that the US sent the Jewish refuges back to a certain death….. They did not want Hitler to attack the US or its possessions….. ALL while building up weapons…. Tanks, Airplanes, ships etc….. And we were training british soldiers to fly here in the states…. We had a contingent in Burma…..to keep Japan at bey…….. Though no country wants to loose ships or its people….. They were expendable in order to get us into WWII…. One account I read that they best were send on a mission 2 days before Pearl Harbor was bombed….. But hey… What do I know…
Bron: Although most of those wars named should not have been fought, I believe WWII had to be fought.
Simply because I do not believe the Nazis could have been defeated by America alone if we had let them first conquer everything else.
We weren’t that strong; we did not emerge as the powerhouse until after everybody else had been decimated by WWII.
The implication of my belief is that, had we not fought WWII with the allies available (and our terms of control were good, since they faced extinction without us), then eventually it would truly have been the USA against all the resources of the world, under some form of Nazi dictatorship.
I honestly don’t think we would have stood a chance, Hitler and his adherents would have no problem with a simple brute force invasion from all sides, sending a billion conscripts with automatic weapons, tanks, etc into the meat grinder against our army.
I know you have a disdain for community action, but this is an example of benefit achieved in no other way: Together a “community of nations” could defeat the Nazis. Separately, the Nazis just pick off the weakest, regroup, gain strength by turning that population into slaves and cannon fodder under threat of death, and then pick off whoever is the new weakest, until they get to us and they own the world.
I think it had to be fought.

Viet Nam comes to mind. Iraq comes to mind. Kosovo comes to mind. WWI comes to mind. Spanish American war comes to mind. Kuwait comes to mind.
Can you think of any others? I would say WWII but I dont know enough of the history of that war to know why we really fought it. I have read that some people think it was because Germany invaded Russia and we wanted to protect Uncle Joe. There were many communists and communist sympathizers in FDR’s administration and for that matter in British government at the time. And also Fascist sympathizers, who can forget Joe Kennedy, Sr.? I guess he wanted to protect Hitler from Stalin? Sounds crazy but who knows anymore.
Too bad we didnt have a capitalist in the white house in 1939, he would have let Hitler and Stalin destroy each other and sent arms to both as Reagan tried to do with Iraq and Iran. Charged high prices too with exorbitant interest rates. Would have made a little money for the defense contractors on top of the destruction of 2 great evils.
Speaking of war, I guess Obama is backing out on going into Syria because he is afraid he is going to find Sadams nerve gas and biological agents. Whoops. Not that that was a reason to invade Iraq, it wasnt.
I see that Bron is not developed yet. In fact, the average age for WWII GIs was well over 25 and they most certainly were not kids. In Vietnam the age was 19. The US was drafting men up to the age of forty in WWII, and they were so hard up, they let prisoners out of prison to join the Army.
I can tell that Bron has no knowledge of WWII or the era. FDR was indeed a REAL capitalist by the way. In fact, the capitalists called him a traitor to his class. The reason for WWII and the US involvement was a little thing called Pearl Harbor in which peaceful Japanese pilots were simply making a goodwill flight over the harbor and the US Navy without provocation started shooting at them. The pilots were so startled that they dropped their bombs and killed over 2000 people, many of them civilians. FDR then asked Congress to declare war on Japan. The US did NOT declare war on Germany or Italy at that time. It was five days later, that HItler declared war on the US. FDR then asked for another resolution by Congress to declare war on them.
Andy Rooney wrote a good book on his experiences as a GI war correspondent in WWII in the ETO. He was one of the first GIs to see the results of the Holocaust. Rooney was not a gung ho GI for the war, until he saw the death camps. He wrote that before that, he had the view that “There is no such thing as a bad peace, or a good war” After that experience he said he KNEW that saying was an outrageous LIE.
When Religion is forced on a population it is worthless to your soul. If you do not believe Women can do more with words than a thousand men with guns you have not seen a Female in action. We are fighting a fundimilism in the world. No matter the religion. This extremist fundimilism is everywhere. Its demanded by people who have no self control in lives, do as we say do and i’m God and my version of God is the only one. If im miserable you must be miserable too. Thats not Religion its Fundamentalism and that is what we must fight worldwide. Religion is a choice.
Yes this is a brave woman, but I hope she has her escape route planned out already.
raf, I most surely hope she has a gun or a bodyguard with her at all times. This cleric of the peaceful religion will more than likely get one of his thugs to kill her.

what nick said. brave woman.
We have destroyed the two “Islamic nations” that allowed women the most freedom (free education up to Phd., voting, driving, etc).
We protect the worst offending “Islamic nations.” (Fighting Terrorism For 200 Years – 3).
Biatch, Biatch, Biatch
Riham Said is indeed a brave person, but the Imam got my attention. He looked to be a semi-senile old fart who proclaims rather than explains. This is no doubt from years of haranguing his worshipful listeners with no feedback except adoration. That a large amount of humans seek comfort by being told what to do and obey unquestioningly is the great enemy of maintaining a democracy. Self governance in any area of human activity requires people who can reason free of dogma.
I truly admire people with the courage to confront power like this. We would all like to think we would stand up for what is right no matter but that is easy to say in a place where we have some level of human rights that would make what this clown could do to that brave woman at least very very difficult if not impossible.
Women are the most oppressed in this culture and it is women who will lead the way.
god damn, it is about time for this to start happening. Shut these shitbird Imams down and show them for the hypocritical, callous, cowardly pukes they really are.
They send babies to kill babies and it is about time for good Muslims to call them out. A 1,000 pounds and a hajib is a good start.
That is one very brave woman, and she will be meeting Allah soon unfortunately.
Crazy…. Plain crazy….
