The first issue by Charlie Hebdo will hit the streets today with a cover featuring a cartoon of Mohammed in defiance of Muslim extremists. The magazine will be offered “in 16 languages” for readers around the world and many are lining up to buy it to show solidarity with the magazine and free speech values after the massacre of 12 innocent people at the magazine.
The printing of 3 million is presumably a record for the magazine which often printed 60,000 copies a week, selling 30,000.
On the cover, Muhammad is shown with a tear streaming down his cheek, and holding a sign: “Je Suis Charlie” — “I Am Charlie.” Overhead is the phrase “Tout est pardonne”, or “All is forgiven.” The cover was drawn by cartoonist Rénald Luzier, known professionally as “Luz”.
The mass printing could trigger more worldwide protests in a confrontation between Muslim fundamentalists and free speech advocates.

Provocation? Yes. It is.
Because we are being told NOT to do it (print harmless cartoons) and being threatened with death if we do not stop publishing and being big ole meanies hurting the tender sensibilities of those people who cut off the heads of living people as a retaliation….we should absolutely publish and exercise our rights of free speech.
If that means we have to exercise the 2nd amendment to protect the 1st. Then so be it.

I am all for free speech but this is just provocation, pure and simple. Just because we can do it doesn’t mean we should do it.
I do not belong to a conspiracy dogpac. But let me offer this: The Military Industrial Complex has been clamoring for a big war. The Islamic terrorists are real but they can be guided. Kind of like missles, they have no brains. So, some CIA types goaded the recent attacks. We need the war to go to ISIS and al Qaeda so now both groups are front and center. We, meaning America, need allies. Obama wont go it alone. So, the terrorists acts go down. The Europeans meet and hold hands. Obama stays out so as not to make Americans and others think that he is the one drumming up the war. Then we, France, Brits and Germans, maybe others invade Yemen, Iran, Syria, Iraq and many points East of Corfu to kill off the Islamic armies and terrorists. So, critics. Obama had a reason to not go. It is all contrived. The media is in on it. All the news fit to print.
If you think that the above version of events is wrong you may be right. You may be left. You may be naïve if you think that he CIA could not stir up some terrorists to go bomb a newspaper and a Kosher deli in France.
If you have a kid in the military then spend some time with him or her while they are still in the States. If you have one who wishes to join up then think twice about it.

On 9/11, I lived in Hoboken (which is just across the Hudson River from Manhattan). On 9/12, copies of The Daily News were distributed to the public for free at the Hoboken train terminal. I kept mine and stored it away. Too bad the folks at Charlie Hebdo didn’t distribute this iconic issue for free.
BTW, the front and back covers of the 9/12 issue had truly iconic images on them, but I remember tears forming from images that appeared inside. Images of people falling out of the sky. Innocent people who had planned an ordinary day of work were suddenly forced to decide how to die: Choose between incinerating yourself into ashes while alive or jump 110 stories knowing you will be an unrecognizable grease spot on impact. That’s torture.
Steve, I hope you’re wrong. The two responsible along with a third crazy are dead, DEAD. If the news out of Cameroon is correct, 143 more are DEAD. What we need to do is stop sending missiles down on “suspected” terrorists. Until we stop doing that we will continue to create more terrorists than we kill.
And so it begins. Guerrilla wars (aka “asymmetrical warfare”) rarely are defeated. They either win (see: Cuba, Communist China, Vietnam, Afghanistan (soon), etc.) or they survive forever (see: Columbia, Turkish Kurds, Basques). Islam has more people, more time and a stronger will than the West. We print magazines; they slaughter scores; we march; they recruit.

Cameroon’s government said Today that its military killed 143 militants from the Islamic extremist group Boko Haram, which has been waging war in neighboring Nigeria.
