“I Am Charlie”: Charlie Hebdo Releases 3 Million Copies Of Magazine With Mohammed Cartoon On Cover

707192-une-charlie-png.jpgThe first issue by Charlie Hebdo will hit the streets today with a cover featuring a cartoon of Mohammed in defiance of Muslim extremists. The magazine will be offered “in 16 languages” for readers around the world and many are lining up to buy it to show solidarity with the magazine and free speech values after the massacre of 12 innocent people at the magazine.

The printing of 3 million is presumably a record for the magazine which often printed 60,000 copies a week, selling 30,000.

On the cover, Muhammad is shown with a tear streaming down his cheek, and holding a sign: “Je Suis Charlie” — “I Am Charlie.” Overhead is the phrase “Tout est pardonne”, or “All is forgiven.” The cover was drawn by cartoonist Rénald Luzier, known professionally as “Luz”.

The mass printing could trigger more worldwide protests in a confrontation between Muslim fundamentalists and free speech advocates.

  1. I agree with all that Issac said. I must say, that was a good summary.

One benefit that Hillary also brings is Bill. She has been there done that and been next to Ben There done that. I mean Bill there when I said Ben. But she will probably be inheriting a war and not get blamed for its initiation. On the Republican side I might like Rand Paul the best. His accent is a bit much but so is Bill Clinton’s.

As to prior Presidents. Truman is by far the favorite in my lifetime. But I am from Missoura in a prior life and have studied his time in office and before he assumed office. Did you guys know that FDR did not even tell Truman about the Atomic Bomb before he croaked? Jeso. I think Kennedy was one of the worst in my lifetime. Johnson the best for getting things through Congress. Carter is low on my list. Bill Clinton was very good. The good economy was not just luck. Nixon was devious but he did some good things and was good in foreign affairs. I was there on the White House street watching with a crowd the night he resigned. On two legs not four. I was a human, not a dog then.

  2. Bubba is a pedophile and his wife is a soulless fat lesbian w/o the fortitude to come outta the closet. The country is tired of Bush an Clinton. The pedophile stuff probably screwed the pooch for Hill. All reports are she kinda realizes that.

  3. Just when we have some hope for Isaac he pens a polemic and we realize he’s just a hoser socialists spewing the lame ass screeds we used to hear all too often here years back. He’s a little late to the party. Needs to go to FFS, there’s a great echo chamber he’ll love.

  4. I have FBI friends in NM who really like Martinez. Why not Martinez/Walker? That would be a smarter move getting the female vote.

  5. Trooper, Did you read what I said?? I said that we elect opposites and Walkers lack of a degree fits that formula well. And, I kinda like someone who is self educated. We disagree on his abilities. He became a cult hero putting whiney lazy union rats in their place. WTF else of importance other than that? I have a strong weasel sniffer. He’s a weasel.

  6. You are too close to it Nick. Walker can run a populist campaign where his lack of a degree will be a feature not a bug. He has the conservatives and reach out to the moderates much more effectively than Cruz or Paul. Christie, Jeb and Romney can not get the grass root conservatives.

Walker/Haley or better yet Walker/Martinez would be my preferred ticket.

  7. Nick

Truman, your lifetime, you that old. Nobody’s that old.

Tricky Dicky then Saint Carter with long term ideas but no dessert, Delusional Mom’s apple pie, quick fix, Ronnie then Rhodes Scholar randy dog Clinton, we skip Big Bush cuz he got swamped by the economic mess left him by the Gipper, then straw man Bush born with a silver spoon in every orifice and dumber than a fence post, then self made man Obama who got there on brains alone. There is something to what you said about electing opposites.

Walker is owned by the Koch brothers, so with the rampage against oligarchs probably not. Cruz is scary. Jeb is a mystery and another Bush. Romney, well you know. Christie is just not taken seriously. I think it will be Clinton. Her heritage is not royalty like Bush. Even though her husband got a free ride to a surplus, coming along at the right time to surf the tech revolution, he is a self made man, of a single parent, brilliant mind and can smile into the camera like he owns it. Hillary has the right mix of experience and connections along with what Obama has been criticized for not having, the ability to deal with the idiots of the Republican party. Warren is too far in the back and Hillary eclipses her.

I would like to see Hillary take the health care insurance problem to its obvious and best conclusion a two tier system that includes all and gives a choice of basic or deluxe, with the people of the US setting the premiums as the underwriter and not Munich Re, or Swiss Re, or AIG, or Lloyds. Bill Clinton admitted that his greatest regret was not sending in the marines to stop the genocide in Rwanda. He stated on TV that he could have saved four or five hundred thousand lives. If any of that regret rubs off on his wife, then we might see a little Thatcher in Hillary.

The gamble with Hillary is if she has learned from her husband’s experience, her experience, and paid attention to the lessons of Obama’s two terms, she would be the most effective counter weight to the Republican controlled Senate and Congress. A Republican President coupled with the Senate and Congress might make a lot of right wingers happy but it would take the US backwards a generation. Obama was not strong enough nor effective enough to push back the global corporate rape of Americans. It isn’t all him. He was left a sinking ship and concentrated on keeping it afloat. That is pretty much done. The next step is to rebuild the middle class through German style cooperation between corporate, labor, and government. Clinton came closer to that than any other during the tech revolution. My wishful thinking sees Hillary as President, the Senate going back to the Democrats, the alternative energy industry energized using existing and successful paradigms, and a commitment to the appropriate military actions against thuggery. Madame President.

  8. Herd-style free advertising. How do we know this isn’t just some sad chef with a bad hat?

  9. Trooper, Here is where I think Walker has a chance. We almost always elect the opposite of the previous prez. Walker, just short of a bachelor’s, would fit the bill as the anti-Obama. And, I would actually love someone w/o a degree, but w/ self educated smarts. I know Haz loves Walker. I just think he is too phony and Cheeseheady. It would be the classic peter principle. He is a decent guv, certainly better than anyone who ran against him. That’s his ceiling IMO.

  10. Barkin, Neither W nor Obama seem[ed] to realize war has been declared on us. It is an asymmetrical war, but they want exactly what Hitler wanted, to change the WORLD to their ideology. In my lifetime Truman was the best war prez. He was certainly a closer, on par w/ Mariano, Trevor Hoffman, or any great closer. Trooper pointed out the way Obama has gone after Patreus shows just how much Dems fear him as a presidential possibility. But, you don’t need a general to have a good war time prez. And, WTF are you talking about w/ Kerry and Crazy Joe? You shot your credibility even considering those 2 losers. But, it’s moot, neither has a chance in hell.

  11. I like Rand Paul. I always hated to get vaccinated.

I like your governor. His only bad point is the team he roots for if you know what I mean.

  12. The Republicans will probably find a real war leader. I don’t know who. But the war that is coming soon will change a lot of things around here. We have not really had a good war time President since Lincoln. Woodrow Wilson? Yuk. FDR? Yuk. Truman? Very good. Ike? Good. Johnson? Not bad but got hated for the war. Nixon? Yuk. All the rest since then not good. Biden or Kerry might be good but they are perceived to be too old. Hillary? Not. No Republicans at the forefront would be good. Jeb wants war forever and like daddy he is likely to invade the wrong Eye country. (Iraq not Iran)

War will be here soon. Button down the hatches.

  13. Trooper, You forgot about Christie the Cowboy fan. I know you also hate Rand Paul along w/ Christie, Jeb and Romney. Is Cruz your guy? Would anyone else meet your criteria?

  14. Jeb Bush and Romney have no chance to be the Republican nominee. They are the Media and Democrat dreams not the grass roots of the party. A distraction at best.

  15. So the answer is to not represent the people who elected you but just surrender your principles and slavishly follow our Dear Leader?

What will your response be when he vetoes bi-partisan legislation like the Keystone pipeline?

I bet you will not attack him for not working with the other side.

  16. Whoa is right. You’re assuming many things Isaac and how they are attached to me I’ll leave for you to identify.
    1. I’m registered Independent and I objectively evaluate the performance of every person that holds that office, regardless of party affiliation.
    2. I thank God enough Americans woke up and put some separation in the powers of government.
    3. When did I EVER mention Jeb or Mitt for President?

  17. Olly

When ‘the man’ is not your guy, he is responsible for everything wrong and can do nothing right. But when one steps back, one can see, if one looks, the other culprits, the Republicans who set about taking him down from the beginning. Think how better things would be now if instead of thwarting him at every turn, Republicans had cooperated and helped instead of opposed everything regardless of its value.

And, you can’t be serious about Mutt Romney or another Bush getting in, can you? Woah
