Below is a very disturbing video of the responses that Zvika Klein, a reporter for Jewish news outlet NRG, received when he walked through streets of Paris wearing a yarmulke and a tzitzit (knotted ritual tassels). The video shows the level of anti-Semitism even in our capital cities around the world.
Klein walked around with a bodyguard while a photographer filmed him with a camera hidden in a backpack.
They film as Klein is called a “dog” and even spat at by people walking by. He walked through Jewish neighborhoods, around the Eiffel Tower, but mostly went through Muslim neighborhoods. He was surprised to receive “belligerent remarks” even in tourist areas, though on the whole they were much better than the Muslim or Arab neighborhoods.
Some comments were particularly shocking like a young boy asking “What is he doing here Mommy? Doesn’t he know he will be killed?”
In truth, I expect that Muslims wearing religious grab face the same type of commentary and attacks in some areas. However, the film captures the deep and growing divide on religion around the world, including the West.
I’m Popeye The Sailor Man.
I live in a big fat tree!
I eat all the burds and spit out their turds!
I’m Popeye The Sailor Man!
We used to sing that song on the streets of Saint Louis and people would throw us quarters. It was three dogs and a pal with a banjo.
Cool 😉
I still want to go to Paris. It doesn’t look as bad as St.Louis to Me
hahahahaha nice!
He’s the one contemplating the clover, looking for the one with four leaves.
“A possible hate crime is under investigation after a fire was set at a Central Florida church, where vandals also spray-painted “Allahu Akbar.”
The incident happened around 3 a.m. Monday at the New Shiloh Christian Church in Melbourne on Sarno Road. About 1,500 members attend the church.
Melbourne police said officers and firefighters discovered the blaze after a fire alarm sounded. Arson was the expected cause, police said.“
Thanks for the illustrative picture, Inga. I think the one over there tripping over his ears is Nick. Cute though!
Where is Paul in it?

I second Po, the “frightened little rabbits inhabiting this warren” comment by Fiver is pure gold.
“”Comparative religion is not a statistical exercise: it is meaningless to tally up the victims of Crusaders and compare them to the victims of Islam and quibble about which religion is more violent. Religious war of conquest, that is, jihad, has the same role in Islam that the Lord’s Supper has in Christianity. Christianity (and Judaism) have exercised violence in the past but never sacralized violence. That is unique to Islam among the self-styled Mosaic religions.”

This is from Wikipedia:
The number of lynchings in the South is associated with economic strains: low cotton prices, inflation, and economic stress.[citation needed] It occurred most frequently in areas with large concentrations of blacks, dominated politically by Democrats, and with competition among local churches, as part of the enforcement of white supremacy by whites in the late 19th century following Reconstruction. The granting of U.S. Constitutional rights to freedmen after the American Civil War during the Reconstruction era (1865–1877) aroused anxieties among white Southerners, who were not ready to concede such social status to African Americans. They blamed the freedmen for their own wartime hardship, economic loss, and loss of social and political privilege. During Reconstruction, freedmen and Whites active in the pursuit of civil rights, were sometimes lynched in the South. In addition, blacks were intimidated and attacked to prevent their voting, with violence increasing around elections from 1868 into the late 1870s. White Democrats regained control of State Legislatures in 1876 and a national compromise on the presidential election resulted in the removal of federal troops and official end to Reconstruction. There continued to be violence around elections to suppress black voting, particularly with the rise of the Populist Party and some victories by Populist-Republican candidates in the 1890s.
From 1890 to 1908, southern legislatures passed new constitutions and electoral rules to disfranchise most blacks and many poor whites, ending election violence by utterly excluding them from politics. The dominant whites enacted a series of segregation and Jim Crow laws to enforce second-class status against blacks. During this period of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, lynchings reached a peak, reflecting the economic hard times. Lynchings peaked in many areas when it was time to settle accounts with sharecroppers.[2]
The Tuskegee Institute has recorded 3,446 blacks and 1,297 whites being lynched between 1882 and 1968, with the annual peak occurring in the 1890s, at a time of economic stress in the South and political suppression.[3] A five year study published by the Equal Justice Initiative in 2015 found that nearly 4,000 black men, women and children were lynched in the Southern states alone between 1877 and 1950.[
Fiver, the whole of it is a gem! Can I bronze it and pull it out next time (tomorrow when Prof Turley throws some more meat in this arena)?
Please allow me to repost it in full just in case some of us, ahem, Karen, Pogo were getting a snack.

The frightened little rabbits inhabiting this warren are just plain embarrassing.
ZOMG! Sharia law is taking over!
In some ways it’s almost laughable, (e.g. the equation of anti-Semitic with anti-“Western” values – completely ignoring the right-wing, “Western” values that directly led to almost half of those killed in German concentration camps being Jewish), but mostly it’s just scary.
Just what it is it that so terrifies the religious right about Sharia law in the U.S.? It’s certainly not that there is any real danger that a relative handful of Islamic radicals, apparently armed with X-acto knives and spit-balls, could possibly conquer a nuclear power surrounded by two oceans and having, by far, the most deadly army, navy and air force in human history. (Yes, Sharia-phobics, you really do sound that silly and histrionic.)
Is it specific provisions of Sharia law? Doubtful. The perpetual hangups (jealousies?) regarding other people’s sex lives are pretty universal and central to the religious right regardless of sect. As are the barbaric punishments the religious followers of all Abrahamic sects seem to revel in. The sexually insecure (yet constantly obsessed) men and women of Christianity, Judaism, and Islam have quite a lot in common.
I suppose the world might ask that that these violence loving, religious nuts might try to recognize their commonality, but that is probably too, um, “Christian” of a proposition for the American right wing (Kill the Samaritans!). It’s probably a good thing too. The only thing worse than Sharia law is fundamentalist Christian law which is surpassed only by Orthodox Jewish law which is only less worse than Sharia law… and so on.
Maybe the world could ask that you all find a God that isn’t so violent, cowardly, and bigoted? Yeah. I know.
You’ve gotta go with your strengths.

WaPo:
“A Detroit man stabbed two people at a suburban bus stop after asking his victims whether or not they were Muslim, according to police. Federal authorities are now looking at the case as a potential hate crime, police said on Tuesday.”
He was Muslim, they were not, so he stabbed them.
I have a grand father in my prior life as a human who lived in France in 1940. He was Roma, a Gypsy. The French police arrested him in his store and shipped him off to some concentration camp and he was never seen again. His name appears on a death list by the Germans but he had a common Roma name. Someone above said:” However, when given the choice between the German boot on the neck it was not hard to round up thugs and other racists to do the bidding of the Nazis.” My grand dad was not a thug or a racist. There was no German boot on the neck of the French police in free Vichy France.
There are some 1933 parallels going on. The Patriot Act is the equivalent of the Reichstag Fire Decree. France has more bigots than Gemany. America has more blind people than it has guide dogs.
Ari, I would like to visit France, but not Paris. We had plans to visit Nice[and Monaco] a couple years ago. But, we got to Rapallo and found a spectacular 5 star hotel. We were going to spend 1 night there. Ended up staying 4 nights. Nice, Marseille, and maybe a couple other areas of France. But Paris holds no interest, never has. CERTAINLY not now. You know Rapallo was great because we were also going to hit Monaco along w/ Nice. And, I LOVE to play craps. Even if I have to wear a jacket. Just once w/ the jacket.
Thanks, y’all…you’ve convinced me to scratch Paris from my bucket list. I’ll switch that to Beijing or Bangkok. Probably no better, but I’d risk the experience just to see the ancient city. At least I’ve done business with merchants in Bangkok…all delightful people.
I’ve been to Paris and Beijing, but not Bangkok yet. However, I just made my reservations at the Bangkok Intercontinental for November. It should be interesting.
Trooper, It was getting pretty hot yesterday so I let it go. But, po made a creepy comment about a grocery store just down the street from me, and a plot to burn down your home. It wasn’t threatening per se, just cryptic and creepy. He felt the heat and was flailing. I do love what you did w/ his new moniker.
Karen-
“If everyone is harassing everyone else equally, then it’s just a very rude city.”
Which is what paris is known for. Turley is just a self-aggrandizing opportunist like everyone else in washington. He wrote this story to better his reputation, not provide any meaningful information.
“The video shows the level of anti-Semitism even in our capital cities around the world.”
No it doesn’t. It shows anti-semitism in Paris.
I think the salient question is, if you are a Jew walking in Paris, will you be harassed, to the point you feel unsafe? Will a Muslim be harassed in Jewish neighborhoods?
If everyone is harassing everyone else equally, then it’s just a very rude city. If, however, it is more common to see Jews harassed then Muslims, then the problem is explicitly rising anti-Semitism.
I have read about rising anti-Semitism in conjunction with a rising Muslim population in the UK. Not all immigrants leave behind their old ways and embrace Western culture. Many Muslims do, but there is no denying that there is a faction who still hold the torch for their anti-Semitic, anti-Western home countries, despite having settled in the West. All they need to do is firmly quash this instead of enable it by refusing to name it anti-Semitism, or excuse or deny it.
This video kind of reminds me of walking in the wrong part of LA if you’re white, or don’t belong to the right gang, or you’re South American instead of Mexican.
Oh, but wait, on another thread where several of us pointed out rising anti-semitism in France and the UK, we were told we were making it up.
