The University of California admissions department has updated its applications to reflect alternative genders. However, the school has not simply added “transgender” or a third option. Instead, it has added six gender identity categories.
Students will now be able to select one of the following:
1. male
2. female
3. trans male/trans male
4. trans female/trans woman
5. gender queer/gender non-conforming
6. “different identity” to describe their “gender identity.”
A site at the University of Wisconsin defines the fifth option in the following way:
Genderqueer: An umbrella term for people whose gender identity is outside of, not included within, or beyond the binary of female and male;
Gender non-conformity through expression, behavior, social roles, and/or identity; See also Fluid, Non-Binary.
A question about sexual orientation features three possible responses: “heterosexual or straight,” “gay or lesbian” or fill-in-the-blank.
The changes are the result of a council assembled by UC President Janet Napolitano formed a council to advise her on LGBT issues in 2014. The expansion of options is likely to spread quickly across the country.
Here’s the UC class of 2019. The no contactado isolated tribe. They Can’t read, write, count or know any concept of money transactions.
But they are Hunter/Gatherer foodie experts . If UC campus cafeteria food is not up to par, Mashco Piro will get angry. They start a riot on campus about goods, services and billing invoice.
What is the purpose of these classifications? Could it be that these people want to claim minority status? If they are awarded minority status, do they receive preferential treatment in admission to the University?
Does anyone recommend a valid psychiatric evaluation on these individuals? I find it hard to believe that the human species could evolve into so many different genders. Unless there is a hidden/political agenda here, certainly some of these individuals are mentally ill.
Or maybe it is simply a case of “the emperor’s new clothes”.
I’m curious to see how the UC system will accept incoming students self-identifying as Seniors. Come to think of it, if there is no objective reality then why would anyone bother going to the university at all? Why not just walk into any employer with a resume that reflected a degree of their own imagination?

I am surprised that they employ the word “queer”. I thought that word was a mean appellation for a bent person of any sort. But if a school employs the word it has to be Kosher.
Borealish: By majority I assume you mean maturity? Why not just say female, that would cover all ages.
In a world where “cisgender transexuals” (?!) were recently banned at Glasgow Pride, I still have to wonder if maybe the reason it’s listed that way is there are some females who are offended by being called women.

@Pluto Cave, with regards to the distinction between trans woman and trans female, not all college entrants will have reached the age of majority. Woman might imply someone has reached full adulthood, whereas female would include all ages.
What a crock of crap! Navel gazing morphed into genital gazing, and now some idiots are sitting around trying to figure out what sex they are. We need a big meteor strike, or a Great Depression, to get people back to work where they don’t have the time, money, or luxury to worry about silly crap like this.

Can someone explain “trans male / trans male”? I guess it’s probably a typo but what the difference is between a trans woman and a trans female is also eludes me.
What do you expect from UC President Janet Napolitano? Everyone knew she was lesbian when she was the governor here in Arizona, but it was something few people talked about. At least she isn’t head of the Nazi-styled Homeland Security agency anymore.

This represents an important step towards recognizing a diversity of genders. Hopefully this categorization is based on self identity, however. Some men or women who were assigned a different gender at birth might feel discriminated against to be forced into a sub-category of woman or man (i.e trans-man versus just man). This would depend on the individual. I’m in the nascent stages of a research project on tearing down legally enforced gender binaries, so this sort of news story is exactly what I am interested in collecting. Thanks for sharing.
Janet Napolitano is turning one of the world’s great universities into a joke. She doesn’t have any credentials to lead a prestigious university. Send the 3d rate politician back to Arizona and bring in someone with academic stature and dignity.

Actually kind of surprised to see this happen before the elimination or creation of more fluid racial categories. After all it’s fairly well documented by science that race is more or less a social construct. While there may be some commonalities between humans in limited regions (as there are between family members) the way its commonly broken up has been inaccurate as to those commonalities to say the least
Also I wonder what someone who is born a hermaphrodite select or be expected to select? The trans is more for people born into one group that which to switch out or feel misplaced ala Caitlyn Jenner from what I understand. I’m surprised they didn’t just keep the 2 and add a fill in the blank like they did with orientation
