The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has released new data on global warming that, again, the data supports the over-whelming view of scientists that climate change is a dire reality. The world has experienced record-breaking hot weather every month in 2015 and the year is all but guaranteed to be the hottest on record.
According to NOAA, August was the warmest August ever recorded — with records going back to 1880. It was 1.58F above the 20th century average. Indeed, every month this year has been the hottest on record.
On its blog, NOAA stated “We estimate a 97% probability that 2015 will become the warmest year on record.”
The issue of global warming came up during the last Republican presidential debate.

I would not want to live in one of those air polluted cities in China. Or in New York where they talk funny. Breath no evil and hear no evil.
Term limit every politician and withhold all pension/benefits if they profit from their public sector career within 5 years of leaving office. I’m sure this needs to be refined but essentially I want votes to be cast on principle and not on personal profit.

The recent tech revolution was all but unnecessary. before 1970, before cell phones, before personal computers, and before almost all the stuff that we simply cannot do without today, life was more than working.
The recent and ongoing tech revolution created, creates, and will continue to create jobs and wealth. A lot of irritating stuff comes with it but without it the fall out from the failed Reaganomics would have continued eroding America. America had advanced well into losing its manufacturing base when the tech revolution reinvigorated the economy.
The transition from fossil fuels is doing the same thing for other countries and industries in the US as well. Jobs and wealth are being created and the damage to the environment is being contained and rolled back. The transition from fossil fuels will only bring prosperity to those who are part of the vanguard. Or, you can buy your stuff from them, not built in the US.
The argument for the status quo is entirely founded and benefits only those who create wealth from the status quo, fossil fuels, etc. If the pencil and paper, typewriter, etc. corporations of the world had had enough support they could have stopped the tech revolution. They would have used the same arguments that appear routinely on this blog. ‘The sky is falling…..’, ‘Junk science…..’, ‘Conspiracy……’, etc.
When these “learned” scientists want to RICO prosecute those who have not drunk the Kool-Aid you see the pernicious effects of groupthink. Any of you Chicken Little folks remember what happened to Galileo? Why has this new ecology been whittled down to only “no oil? Why are all the govt. grants subsidizing scientists who are part of the “no oil” groupthink? Ecologists used ti be about saving the oceans, wetlands, etc. I’m down w/ that. This is a political campaign, not science. The emails showed how corrupt these “reputable” scientists really are. They are scientists, they’re political spinners. The ubiquitous phrase “settled science” says it all. Science is NEVER settled.
Nah it’s all junk science. It is a mass conspiracy of almost all of the most reputable scientists in the world to, well, to do something bad.
I took a course way back by a really nice old man who told me that pollution was nothing more than the sweet smell of success.
So, I’ll watch, from my enclosed space, comfortable in knowing that I know more than almost all of the world’s most reputable scientists; a little irritated from time to time that fewer and fewer people agree with me and more and more evidence appears daily as to the effects of fossil fuel pollution, destruction of coral reefs, melting ice caps, etc.
Whatever science and logic tell us, the right wing insists that the opposite is true. They like the appearance of having an opinion equal in status to whatever the left is saying, on the outside chance that the left will be wrong and they can take credit for being right. When has that ever panned out for them? Never, that I can think of.
Well at least Planned Parenthood is doing their part for the cause of climate change. Same could be said for the city of Chicago. And now that the disease of ISIS has managed to infiltrate the EU and Iran has put everyone on the nuke clock, the herd WILL be thinned one way or another.
Sun spots. Solar heat. Farts. Too many Hoosiers in Indiana. Too many Democrats in Washington. Too many RepubliCons on K Street. Or is that C Street? Which one has the hookers? One hot cathouse in DC populated by off duty RepubliCons can heat up half a state.

What do they know. With their instruments and peer-reviewed research and logic. I trust James Inhofe. Snowballs in DC? Game over. I trust people like Nick, who writes comments on blogs. Game over, again. NASA and ESA and NOAA et al. could learn from just these two.
Science is inherently skeptical. That’s the entire point. So the emergence of such a large consensus carries that much more weight, not to mention all the data accrued to support that consensus.
It’s fine to question. It’s healthy to do so. But deniers aren’t simply questioning. They’re ignoring in order to push their complicated, political conspiracies. Which certainly undermines the sincerity of that questioning.
Stupid scientists and science. Nick is so right. The release of billions tons of carbon every year for years and years and years has no adverse effects. Ocean acidification, global temperature, mass extinctions: all normal within a single century. Doesn’t matter whether such turns used to take millennia in the measurable past.
So I support the pope of the Church of Anti-Environmentalism, who uses extremes to back a blind counterargument.

Pete, If it’s body heat that we need to curb then we need to start thinning the herd. The Lottery, by Shirley Jackson, was a reading assignment when I was in high school. Maybe we need to institute a Lottery. But, you just committed a cardinal sin, Pete. You had the temerity to question the dogma. You might be prosecuted under the RICO statute like some “scientists” from George Mason University and other august schools have asked the President to prosecute those who do not accept the “settled dogma..err, settled science.”
I am only saying ‘what if’… but what if the climate change we are constantly hearing is part of the natural cycle of the planet, something akin to the cycle of ‘ice ages’ the earth experiences? Yes there are 4 billion more people on earth than the last climate change creating more heat just by being alive, but like in the past no one…..NO ONE republican, democrat liberal or conservative can do anything to change this cycle… Except take our focus away from what a bad job they are doing in Washington about not spending more than we take in!

I took an ecology course when I went back to college in the late 80’s. My professor was in his 80’s and a very wise man. He taught me the need to curb waste. He taught me the need to restore wetlands. REAL ECOLOGY. You don’t hear any of that from the holy rollers in the Church of Environmentalism. It’s all about shutting down oil. It’s about CONTROL. It’s not about the environment. Al Gore is the Pope of the Church of Environmentalism. WTF more needs to be said about the phony religion when you have a Benny Hinn clone as the leader
