Indonesian Woman Caned for Having “Affectionate Contact”

45px-Rattan_caneWe have another example of the grotesque Sharia legal system this week. A 20-year-old Indonesian woman was hospitalized after being publicly caned for violating Sharia law in having affectionate contact with a man who was not her husband. The chilling scene was magnified by cheering crowds who watched as students Nur Elita and Wahyudi Saputra were caned outside a mosque in Banda Aceh.

Banda Aceh is the only province in Indonesia that operates under Sharia law.

Elita received five strokes along with Saputra, 23, and had to be carried to an ambulance as Banda Aceh Deputy Mayor Zainal Arifin proclaimed “Take these punishments as a lesson. What has been done by these convicts should not be taken as an example.”

Four men were caned for gambling on the same day.

The disturbing scene is available here

  1. Tyger, I have said here, and elsewhere, many times, that more people have been killed in the name of God, Allah, etc. than have been saved in his name. I get testy when atheists get on their high freakin’ horses and think their hands are pure. Atheism is a central tenant of communism. Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, etc. killed in the name of there being no God. Having investigated some really bad people, I don’t think, believe or feel there are purely evil people in the world. I KNOW it. And evil people are both religious and atheist. As long as we can agree on that, the rest is small potatoes.

    1. Nick writes, “Atheism is a central tenant of communism.”

Why is it that you folks throw around the word communism when you don’t even know what it is?

What you’re referring to is totalitarianism whereby the state owns and controls everything, e.g., Stalinism. That’s not communism or socialism. With one difference, communism is the same thing as socialism, and they’re both simply the same economic device for private ownership of the means of production by the employees or shareholders individually and in equal shares, the best example being co-ops. The only difference between them historically is that communism focused on the peaceful conversion from capitalism to such an economic system through the political process. Socialism focused on violent overthrow of the government for the conversion.

Further, the claim that Obama is a socialist is ridiculous by looking at his policy alone. Our government is an example of state capitalism. Bailing out the car industry is a good example. The government loan required the payment of interest to the government which actually profited. When you go to the DMV and pay your registration, it surely doesn’t cost the government that entire registration fee amount to register your car or hand out a four-year degree equal to the cost of tuition at state universities. The government is profiting.

What’s more, bailing out the banks was socialist ideology? Puhlease. It was protecting Wall Street and capitalism. Obama supported and facilitated all of this. He’s a neo-lib capitalist just like Hillary. Sheesh.

Finally, as to your comment above, it goes without saying that communism (an economic system) and religion are not mutually exclusive. There are plenty of communists who also have religious faith.

It’s simply bunk McCarthyist brainwashing that permits the idea that communism is totalitarianism.

  2. Obviously, the Muslims who want to rule others with strick sharia laws received no love and tolerance as children, or even instructions on how to love and tolerate others. They don’t know what that means.

Politics and domination guided the actions of dictators like Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot and others like them. The fact they were Atheists was irrelevant. Had they been religious, they simply would have killed millions of people who were of a different religion, because religion motivated them. Hitler demonstrated that. Lack of a religion is only a proof of something to those who are religious and want to reinforce their beliefs.

  3. “After converting by force more people to Christianity than any other religion been able to surpass…
    False.

“…scaring children and the unknowing into going to hell without repentance and conformity. I’d say that’s force.
Fear of metaphysical consequences is not force.

    1. KCFleming writes, “’…scaring children and the unknowing into going to hell without repentance and conformity. I’d say that’s force.’ Fear of metaphysical consequences is not force.”

Like I mentioned, when the New Christian Inquisition begins, you’re a shoe-in for special prosecutor.

  4. There’s more blood on the hands of atheists than on any religion. Even these barbaric Muslims will have to greatly step up their game to catch up w/ Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, etc.

  5. I made a prediction that our resident Muslim would avoid this thread. The comment was deleted. But, it was accurate. Being correct is not as important as being politically correct. Free speech is important, isn’t it, JT?

  6. “Missionaries all over the world force Jesus on the subservient.

Provide proof of ongoing forced Christian conversions anywhere.
    Proselytizing is not force.

“There’s blood on Christian hands too, like it or not.

    CRUSADES!!!

Far more blood on atheists’ hands than by Christians, by more than 100 million lives.

    1. KCFleming writes “Provide proof of ongoing forced Christian conversions anywhere. Proselytizing is not force.”

After converting by force more people to Christianity than any other religion been able to surpass, you folks are now cool with scaring children and the unknowing into going to hell without repentance and conformity. I’d say that’s force.

As for atheists having caused more bloodshed, you may be right (I don’t know), but I do know that it wasn’t on behalf of atheism that Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, et al., fought. Remind yourself of the natives of Canada, the US, Mexico, and Central and South America and how they fared against Jesus’ handywork.

  7. Karen, Junipero Serra is why we do not have one or two California tribes still around. Missionaries all over the world force Jesus on the subservient. The Mormons, among other sects, proselytize in my neighborhood. Well after the Crusades, the non-subservient were brutalized or butchered. There’s blood on Christian hands too, like it or not.

  8. Oh, and it is because of the Crusades that we do not have Sharia Law here in the US. The Crusades were fought to stop the Muslim Expansion, which conquered parts of Europe and enslaved Christians. That’s why there is all that lovely Moorish architecture in Portugal and Spain. Without the Crusades, the Muslim Expansion would have swept throughout Europe, and subsequently all its colonies.

No, they were not fought according to the standards of modern warfare, because they occurred hundreds of years ago. Just like the Muslim Expansion did not follow the Geneva Convention.

    1. Karen writes, “The Crusades were fought to stop the Muslim Expansion, which conquered parts of Europe and enslaved Christians. . . .”

What on Earth do you think we’re doing in the Middle East right now? Selling dromedaries?

Onward Christian soldier against the infidels who would control our oil reserves and rights as sole printer of the petrocurrency.

  9. Here is the trouble with Trump. He is the flip side of Obama, who told the adoring crowds he would come fix all their problems. He would ignore the Constitution, because he had a phone and a pen. He would create an uber Presidency, and his followers would love him, ignoring the erosion of their freedoms, because he was there to “help” them. Didn’t Professor Turley say people would rue the day they gave the President that much power? Ignored his grasp for more? Aren’t you all terrified now of what someone like Trump would do with an uber Presidency?

Sure, he won’t follow the Constitution, but he’ll fix everything. Obama blamed white men and Big Business for all the problems, as his excuse to ignore the Constitution. Trump blames Muslims, among others, as his excuse to ignore the Constitution.

I would not vote for Trump. His worth lies in the fact that he is non-PC, like Bill Maher, and he gets the nation talking about uncomfortable subjects. But he also denigrates women, makes promises he can’t keep, won’t follow the Constitution, along with a list of other problems.

Not such a great idea, now, is it, when you’re worried about a non-Liberal ignoring the Constitution?

  10. Sharia Law abuses human rights everywhere it is practiced. The fact that the crowd cheered this punishment shows how far some cultures are from our modern values of decency and freedom. We are so lucky we are here in the US, especially women. This is also why it is vital that immigration occur at a rate where they can assimilate to our culture. Can you imagine the consequences of overwhelming numbers of these cheering people coming over, and failing to assimilate? And voting? Our culture is not magic. It would not be able to survive getting overwhelmed by those who have very different values. Keep the numbers slow to preserve our culture of freedom.

  11. “I can’t wait for the New Christian Inquisition.

In which Steve sees Islam behaving barbarously (again), and blames Jesus.

  12. Ecclesiastical law rules! I can’t wait for the New Christian Inquisition. We’ll clean up America the old-fashioned way: one body part at a time!

  13. Is Islam in Indonesia different? Yes because in Saudi Arabia she might have been beheaded.

  14. It is well that the ‘executioner’ is masked. Otherwise, a brother or relative of the victim might just decide he could use a double dose of his own ignorance.
