Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R., Ill.) went on CNN’s “The Situation Room” to declare he is very certain there is very likely “something going on at the Secret Service” … and it could “potentially [be] very criminal activity.” It is also very very late (as was the subpoena of former President Donald Trump) to be asking about the lack of preparation for Jan. 6th riot.
On CNN, Kinzinger told Blitzer that
“there is something going on at the Secret Service, either pure incompetence all the way on the scale to potentially very criminal activity or just having a preference for one side or the other.”
Kinzinger noted that inconsistency in the testimony of former Trump White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson who claimed that Secret Service assistant director Tony Ornato told her that Trump was “irate” in the limousine upon learning he couldn’t go to the Capitol. She also said that Trump lunged at his security detail in the car and toward the steering wheel. I previously wrote about this alleged incident. Ornato denied the allegation.
Kinzinger said “It’s not for me to say at this point whether they lied or not. There are some inconsistencies that we’re going to pursue. There are a lot of questions, things they said earlier that maybe witnesses have countered.”
Much like the very public move to force the wife of a sitting justice to testify, the question is why this is the question that Kinzinger would cite as a key focus for the Committee going forward. I do not fault the staff trying to confirm if anyone knowingly lied in these different accounts. However, this would not seem like the type of dispute be a priority for the Committee in answering what work needs to be done.
Moreover, different recollections of a conversation are generally not going to be good grounds for prosecution. The judge in the Danchenko trial just threw out a count based on the uncertainty of language.
Moreover, the Democrats in the final hearing hammered away at documents showing that the agency knew about violent threats in the days leading up to Jan. 6th. However, the Democrats have refused to pursue the lack of preparations on Capitol Hill as a focus of the hearing. On the day of the riot, many of us noted (before the breach of security) that there was a relatively light police presence around the Capitol despite the obvious risk of a riot. Once the crowd surged, they quickly were able to gain access to the building. Conservative media have featured a video showing an officer standing by as crowds poured into the building.
That obviously does not mean that there was not violence or that Capitol police did not bravely fight to protect the building. Most of us have denounced the riot as a desecration of our constitutional process.
Moreover, at some point, officers may have shifted to deescalating as crowds surged into the building. The question is why there were not more substantial barriers, like those used at the White House. Instead, some barriers were composed of a few officers using their bikes.
The available evidence indicates that the House was warned and that the need for National Guard deployments were discussed. There is a concern that, after criticizing such deployment and fencing around the White House in the earlier riots, the Democrats did not want to be seen following the same course.
An Inspector General report indicated that police were restricted by Congress in what they could use on that day. Previously, it was disclosed that offers of National Guard support were not accepted prior to the protests. The D.C. government under Mayor Muriel Bowser used only a small number of guardsmen in traffic positions.
That focus was rejected by the Committee members, including presumably Kinzinger. There have been no dissenting views voiced on the Committee as well as a virtual bar on opposing explanations or interpretations of evidence.
Yet, Kinzinger insisted “there’s a lot of answers we simply don’t have.” That may be due to a lot of questions that the Committee had not asked in the highly scripted, one-sided proceedings.
Whether there is “very criminal activity,” one thing is very clear: there has been very little interest in pursuing the question of who was responsible for the woefully inadequate security around the Capitol on Jan. 6th.
Turley’s sense appears to leave him on this subject, resulting in the same bedwetting and drivel that spews from halfwits Kinzinger and Cheney.

I am not aware how she would be involved in J6.
Policing for the capital is the exclusive domain of congress. That is why they have their own police.
I am not aware of any involvement of Bowser in anything related to J6 – nor any reason she would be.
Regardless, the president can not unilaterally send the NG to the capital. The CP – the sargents at arms, and ultimately Pelosi and Schumer must request them FIRST.
Peolsi’s phone calls are actually damning to HER.
There were only two people who could get Pelosi the NG.
The first was the DCNG comandant – because he had been preauthorized by the president.
The 2nd was the president, who is the only person that can bring NG troops outside their states.
Pelosi is 3rd in line to be president she KNOWS this.
Her phone call to Northam was political theater.
Even if Northam order the VANG to DC, they would be forced to stop at the VA border – where Northam’s authority ends.

The responsibility to call out the local guard rests with the local political leadership.
Bowser is the Mayor of DC – the Capital area is literally NOT in her jurisdiction.
Just as the VA governor can not send the Guard outside of VA – Bowser can callup the guard, but she can not send them to the WH or the Capital.
The Capital Police – control the capital area – these police and the Capital Area are under the excludive contol of the Sargents of Arms.
The park police control other federal areas in DC including the WH – these police and these areas are under the exclusive control of the President.
The Rest of DC is under the control of the DC Mayor – in those areas she has about the same power as a Governor.
But the Federal Areas and the Capital areas are as if they are another state with respect to Bowser’s authority.
She can call up the DC NG and send them to Georgetown. She can not send them to the WH or Capital area.
Just as Northam can not send them outside VA – including to DC or the Capital area.
It’s ALL political theater. As the frieze on the Supreme Court building says, “Equal justice for all.”
Justice stopped being equal in this country about two years ago.
How many lives do these people have to destroy along the way?
Bowser had to approve the National Guard and Pelosi was responsible for having them at the Capital. The ONLY thin President Trump could do was authorize which he did a few days before. Bowser and Pelosi declined.

But Bowser has no authority at all over the capital area.
He permission is not needed to send the DCNG to the capital.

Absolutely Trump approved the Guard several days earlier – that is well documented.
All Pelosi had to do was call the DCNG comander and say COME, and they would be there as fast as they could cover the short distance to the capital. It is my understanding they were already called up and in the DC Armory – again thanks to Trump.

He wanted a peaceful protest – loud yes, demanding yes, but peaceful.
He also wanted the NG because he did NOT want the Capital shutdown.
I do not personally beleive the NG was nesecary.
I beleive the CP was capable of controlling this – IF protestors were searched and allowed into the capital.
The violence started because they were blocked from entering the capital.
The core problem was the PLAN was to keep protestors out, and there was no fallback.
Had the plan been to allow peaceful protests, that would have been far easier.
I will be happy to Argue that Bowser was part of the failure.
But I am not going to argue what I can not back up with law and facts.
I am not aware of any requirement that the DC mayor approve the use of the DC NG at the capital.
The NORMAL process is that the appropriate authority – in this case the CP – which Pelosi has authority over, so Pelosi had the authority to make the NG request. That request goes to the president and the president orders the Guard deployed.
The president can not deploy the guard unilaterally.
There is a minor legal issue becuase the process is request to president, presidential orders and then deployment.
Trump tried to reverse the process and pre-order the guard so that all that was necescary was a request.
I am not sure he can legally do that.
But that does not matter as the point is that the delay in getting the Guard was the consequence of DEMOCRATS

The Date on this is J5 – which means that the City of DC like the CP rejected the WH offer of NG troops prior to J6.
While this letter is important – and it might be applicable to the protests that Trump attended, it is not related to anything that occurred at the Captial itself. That is outside Bowsers jurisdiction.

Failure to make that public is not criminal.
But is a violation of the oath to uphold the constitution.

In the conduct of the office of President of the United States, Joseph Robinette Biden Jr. in violation of his constitutional oath faithfully to execute the office of the President of the United States, and to the best of his ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, and in violation of his constitutional duty, to take care that the laws be faithfully executed, has engaged in a campaign of non-neutral acts and belligerent acts and acts of war against the Russian Federation without the express authorization of the United States Congress in violation of the War Powers Clause of the United States Constitution set forth in Article 1, Section 8 thereof and in violation of Congress’s own War Powers Resolution of 1973 set forth in 50 U.S.C. Jonathan: Your column is a classic example of how to turn a legitimate debate of how law enforcement, including the Secret Service, failed to sound the alarm about the threats of violence on Jan. 6–into an attack on the Jan. 6 Committee’s work itself. So you make a false claim about an alleged “inconsistency” in Cassidy Hutchinson’s testimony, the audacity of the Committee “to force the wife of a sitting justice to testify” and then you mention the unrelated issue of Danchenko’s trial. Such an assemblage of unrelated issues, however, does require some response. First, there was no “inconsistency” about what Hutchinson heard from SS agent Ornato. He has denied her version of their conversation but no one has directly refuted Hutchinson’s version. Second, Ginni Thomas is a private citizen and if we believe your claims she leads a separate life from her husband in her political activities. Thomas was directly involved in trying to overturn the 2020 election. So the J.6 panel had a perfect right to ask her to testify. Thomas doesn’t get a pass because she is the “wife of a sitting justice”. If the wife of a judge was involved in drug trafficking should she not be investigated simply because she is the judge’s wife? Third, what is the relevancy of the Danchenko trial to the Q at hand? It’s a potpourri of unrelated issues. Doesn’t make a lot of sense. So let’s get to the relevant issue.
Adam Kinsinger and the panel have expressed concern about the lack of preparation by the Secret Service for the violence that happened on Jan. 6. They were aware from online chatter that groups allied with Trump were planning violence. There is some evidence there were SS agents sympathetic to Trump–including agent Ornato. We don’t know what further areas on this subject the panel is pursuing. But no doubt if there was “very criminal activity” inside the SS this will be referred to the DOJ for further investigation and possible prosecution. So please don’t use this issue to try to discredit the contribution of the Jan. 6 Committee in providing over whelming evidence that Donald Trump planned and executed the Jan. 6 insurrection and stood aside while his supporters trashed the Capitol!
