Nothing But Rage: The Ginni Thomas Investigation Ends Without a Mention in J6 Report

Below is my column in the New York Post on the J6 Committee report and the conspicuous absence of any mention of Ginni Thomas, the wife of Clarence Thomas. Despite calls for the impeachment of Justice Thomas and criminal charges against the couple, the Ginni Thomas “scandal” seemed to evaporate with nary a mention in the report or the press.

Here is the column:

The Jan. 6 committee issued its long-awaited report at 2022’s end, with the expected breathless punditry. Spoiler alert: It turns out the culprit of this “whodunit” was … wait for it … Donald Trump.

What’s more interesting is the dog that did not bark.

In Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s story “Silver Blaze,” the local inspector asks Sherlock Holmes, “Is there any other point to which you would wish to draw my attention?” Holmes responds, “To the curious incident of the dog in the night-time.” When the inspector objects, “The dog did nothing in the night-time,” Holmes replies, “That was the curious incident.”

In the 895-page report, the “curious incident” is the lack of any reference to Ginni Thomas, Justice Clarence Thomas’ wife. For months, members, the media and an army of pundits hammered away at the “smoking gun” texts Thomas sent to Trump chief of staff Mark Meadows and others calling the election stolen and demanding challenges to certifying the electoral votes.

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) was the first member of Congress to call for Justice Thomas to be impeached over his wife’s 29 messages. Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-NJ) called for Thomas to resign immediately as a “corrupt jurist.”

Former Sen. Barbara Boxer and others joined these calls. (Boxer was particularly ironic since she used the same underlying federal law to challenge the certification of George W. Bush’s election.) Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) demanded an investigation. On the committee itself, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) fueled the frenzy and demanded subpoenas for both Thomases.

The media also went into hyperbolic overload. Liberal sites demanded Thomas be impeached, citing “watchdogs” who turned out to be the same crowd that has long denounced the justice.

MSNBC’s Mehdi Hasan tweeted, “I have a question for Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House Democrats: Why haven’t you impeached Clarence Thomas yet?” CNN and MSNBC commentator Tristan Snell tweeted that the couple had to be subpoenaed: “At best, they are material fact witnesses. At worst, they are co-conspirators to be charged with seditious conspiracy.” Professor Laurence Tribe (who declared Trump should be charged with attempted murder) also demanded the justice and his wife be subpoenaed.

MSNBC’s Zeeshan Aleem declared in June that the scandal “keeps getting worse” but “the silver lining is that it will likely intensify calls for overhauling the high court, and help strip more people of the illusion that the Supreme Court is an apolitical branch of government and a neutral arbiter of the law.”

Activists like Sarah Lipton-Lubet, Take Back the Court Action Fund executive director, declared that “there’s much more to the story of Ginni Thomas’ participation in the January 6 attack that the House Select Committee and the American public deserve to know.”

Yet it turns out what we knew was largely all we needed to know. There was not “much more to the story.” The entire Ginni Thomas scandal merited nary a mention in the massive report.

Indeed, it doesn’t appear the committee had anything more than what we knew when the controversy began. The texts were never denied, and they weren’t surprising since Ginni Thomas was publicly supporting Trump and his claims. She was willing, moreover, to answer the committee’s questions voluntarily.

We’ve come a long way from the days when spouses were viewed as mere extensions of their husbands. Ginni Thomas is an activist, and the couple has often discussed how they keep their professional lives apart.

Of course, when some of us suggested Ginni Thomas has a protected right to such views and communications, we were denounced as apologists or sympathizers to an “insurrection.”

For her part, as The Post reported, “Thomas said that her husband only found out about her texts with Meadows from media reports as he lay in hospital bed recovering from an infection in March 2022.”

In reality, there were press reports before that. The House received 29 texts between the pair from November 2020 to mid-January 2021 in the 2,320 messages Meadows gave the committee. The press reported Meadows’ turnover in December 2021.

That, however, does not change the fact there was nothing in this controversy that warranted the breathless coverage or, in my view, a subpoena issued to the spouse of a sitting justice.

Politicians and pundits suggested Thomas could be impeached because he voted on a challenge to the committee obtaining White House messages and emails. In January 2022, the House won an 8-1 victory before the Supreme Court, which rejected Trump’s privilege objections to the materials’ release. There was only one dissenting vote: Thomas.

Yet Ginni Thomas’ texts had already been turned over to the committee by then, and she testified she never told her husband about her communications.

Likewise, there was no evidence that she ever encouraged violence or was even present at the Capitol riot. Thomas said she attended the Ellipse rally Jan. 6 but left early, before Trump spoke, and never went to the Capitol.

In the end, the committee did not take the advice of Schiff, Tribe, and others. It did not subpoena Justice Thomas. It did hear from Ginni, who voluntarily testified for four hours. Again, while the committee released her transcript, it did not find that she merited a single reference in the 895-page report.

The media that pushed this exaggerated story for months followed the familiar pattern. They just shrugged and barely covered the fact the committee found nothing beyond what some of us had previously noted: Ginni Thomas was a longstanding Republican activist who publicly supported Trump’s claims of a rigged election.

In her testimony, Thomas reiterated under oath that she does not talk to her husband about her political activities and he does not discuss his work on the court. She reaffirmed she never told her husband about her conversations with Meadows.

She now regrets sending Meadows messages and described the days following the election as an “emotional time.”

Now the entire investigation of Ginni Thomas ended as it began: as a largely recreational exercise. It did prove one thing. What many people in this age of rage refuse to admit is that they like it. Rage is addictive. It releases you from any obligations of fairness or balance. Ginni Thomas’ targeting was just another cathartic “curious incident” in the J6 investigation.

  1. (OT)

Sandra Garza, Brian Sicknick’s partner, has filed a wrongful death suit against Trump and two rioters on behalf of Sicknick’s estate.

Ashli Babbitt’s family had said that they were going to file a wrongful death suit, but AFAIK, they never have, though they’ve raised hundreds of $thousands to fund the suit. What are they waiting for?

  2. Lawrence Tribe is a national embarrassment. His style would be better suited to the Soviet justice system.

  3. Rage must be the objective here. Justice Thomas joined SCOTUS 32 years ago, and has been consistently smeared by the Left since then. They are aware that nothing they have said or done has moved him one inch from his conservative jurisprudence in those 32 years, and that nothing they say or do now has any realistic possibility of leading to an impeachment. So again . . . the only possible objective here is rage.

  4. Clarence Thomas’s story is the epitome of the American dream. He came literally from the dirt of Georgia. He had to do everything himself in the face of relentless opposition. The fact that he is still targeted today is a blot on our nation and a symptom of the evil that has insinuated itself into government and society. At the same time, when Satan is working overtime to take you down, you know you’re making a difference.

  5. What’s their impeachment complaint? That Justice Clarence Thomas didn’t “control” his wife? She’s not a judge or a Supreme Court justice. She is entitled to the First Amendment, the same as any other citizen.

Harassing family members like this is not acceptable.

      1. But they foot al! He time! .ever tried to be an air force commander your wife better pass the test…..or she doesn’t and you don’t get to live on base. Ginny is a hero! And clearance Thomas is a hero. They are just looking around for equity…..And they ain’t finding it. Like how come not? Seriously you screw a good officer because you think his wife is nuts….have you looked at all wives? ..no you only look at the wives to carry on said officers…..stop looking at wives …how did Petraeus wife turn out…I’m just saying stop looking at wives…..we ain’t husbands….And if you want to seriously see what we say…then look. But stop treating women as their extentiion. That’s something put in knows and it will work against you soon after this orthodox holiday. And if anyone kills this weekend…I’ll make sure Jesus Christ knows about it!

  6. There seems to be no outcry, so the media is either with the government or afraid of them.
The is no moral outrage because we have few morals left to outrage.
A “swing and a miss” for a misguided attempt at personal destruction? Just a day at the office now a days.
Meanwhile back in congress the Republicans are putting on a bleep show for the democrats, helping them feel justified in their governmental lawlessness.
Trump for speaker? Sure. Why not?
    Oh, and welcome to 2023!

  7. A long time ago when aTS was having a meltdown he engaged in the use of what was called “pretend friends”. He needs to up his medications or soon we will be inundated with his pretend friends.

  8. Jonathan: When Ginni Thomas testified before the Jan. 6 Committee in September she still bizarrely clung to Trump’s false claim the 2020 election was stolen. She still believes that. Thomas will not be prosecuted because she is small fry compared to Trump, Eastman, Meadows, et al. But it is clear she played a role in the events that led up to the Jan. 6 insurrection. She urged officials in multiple states to go against the will of the voters by appointing alternative Trump electors. So Ginni Thomas will go down in history as one of the “insurrectionists” as well as Trump and others.

The real problem is the close connection between Ginni and Clarence and their right-wing agenda. But you say “Ginni Thomas is an activist, and the couple has often discussed how they keep their professional lives apart”. And, “she [Ginni] does not talk to her husband about her political activities and he does not discuss his work in the court”. Really? How do you know what the Thomas’ discuss in the privacy of their bedroom? I don’t think you know any more than the rest of us! I have been married for 44 years to the same woman. We share the same political philosophy as do Ginni and Clarence. And I can tell you there is nothing we don’t discuss. So when Ginni claims she and her husband don’t discuss their separate lives I say that doesn’t pass the laugh test!

I don’t think Ginni Thomas’ testimony was a “largely recreational exercise”. It put Thomas on record that she still believes the election was “stolen” from Trump. Clarence, I think, agrees with her. He has refused to recuse himself in cases that have already been before the Court relating to Jan. 6. He was the sole dissent in the case that ruled the Jan.6 Committee was entitled to see WH records. That’s why Sen. Warren and Rep. Japal have called for a judicial code of ethics for the SC. That’s the part you missed in your analysis.

    1. That’s why Sen. Warren and Rep. Japal have called for a judicial code of ethics for the SC.

Who is more stupid. Warren and Japal for pandering to their stupid base, or Dennis for believing this.

Separation of Powers…learn it, love it. Congress cant make rules for SCOTUS. Congress and Judiciary are separate but equal branches of government.

I swear not a soul understands Jr High level civics.

      1. I looked up Warren’s bill and the judicial code of conduct section is a sense of the Congress provision showing that she recognizes to some extent the separation of powers issue you raise.

      2. Ipwan2, you’re right. Most college grads today couldn’t pass a basic civics test.

    2. Dennis:

Democrats STILL call the 2016 election “stolen.” Al Gore et al called the election he lost “stolen.” Hillary Clinton still calls Trump an “illegitimate president” of a “hacked election”. If you put Hillary Clinton “on trial” should would “still believe the election was ‘stolen'”.

You cannot denigrate Mrs Thomas for sincerely believing that there was a problem with election security, while excusing the exact same behavior in Democrats. The same behavior cannot be illegal, and grounds for impeachment, or barring someone from running for election, for one party, and perfectly acceptable in the other party. It’s unjust.

As for the 2020 election, the PA case was scuttled by Rudy Giuliani. The ballots were subjected to completely different legal standards in each voting district, in clear violation of the 14th Amendment. That was the successful argument in the Bush v Gore case. However, Democrats gave death threats against the lawyers, until most of them resigned. Then Giuliani joined and took over the case, going off on tangents that were either not provable, or that affected too few provable votes to change the outcome.

The merits of the case were never decided. In addition, mail in voting in globally recognized as the method most vulnerable to fraud. Therefore, it is perfectly reasonable for people to express concerns about election integrity, and to say that the merits of the case were never properly adjudicated.

Hypocrisy is a key component of the Democrat Party platform. We are to believe that rioting, arson, and seizing entire city blocks at gunpoint for a year are acceptable when Democrats do it, but the one, single time Republicans rioted on Jan 6th, there are trials and attempts to keep anyone who said anything critical of the treatment of the participants from ever running for office again. Cognitive dissonance. We are to believe that it’s acceptable for Democrats to call every election they ever lost as stolen, but when Republicans have concerns over cheating and election integrity, it’s treason, and they must never run for office again. Not even their spouses may voice the exact same concerns Democrats do. Cognitive dissonance. Joe Biden can fly illegal aliens at midnight to conservative states, and that’s great, but when Republican governors in border states overwhelmed with illegal aliens fly or bus illegals to the Democrat states that voted for open borders, that’s kidnapping, and a humanitarian crisis, and they’ll get the National Guard to throw them out immediately. Cognitive dissonance.

Wake up. The same standard must apply to all, or it’s quite literally hypocritical and unjust.

      1. Clinton conceded the 2016 election the day after the election, Obama welcomed the Trumps at the White House a day after that, and Clinton attended the inauguration. Gore conceded the election the day after the Supreme Court decision and presided over the electoral college certification.

        1. Concerned Citizen – Hillary called the election “stolen” long after election night. Gore sought to overturn the Florida result until the SCt stopped him.

          1. As I pointed out, unlike Trump, Clinton and Gore both accepted the election results at key moments to ensure a peaceful and orderly transition of power.

            1. As I pointed out, (deny, obfuscate, lie)…the election results at key moments to …

And that folks is what moving the goal posts looks like.
              Well done CC

            2. Hillary Clinton was the author of ther Russian collusion®™ hoax.

John Podesta actually called for an intelligence briefing for the Electoral College-something that has never been done before.

It’s (D)ifferent when we do it is a pathetic argument.

          2. Gore did not seek to “overturn” the FL “result.” The count in FL counties had not yet be certified, so there was no statewide “result.” He sought a recount in a close county, as FL law allows.

            1. Anonymous – NYT headline of 11/27/2000 – “Counting the Vote: the Overview; Bush is Declared the Winner in Florida, but Gore Vows to Contest Results”

                1. Anonymous – he sought to force recounts (not provided for Florida law) in several Democratic counties, hoping to pick up as many votes as necessary to overcome Bush’s lead in the rest of the state. Even when his initial efforts failed, he continued trying to force new recounts. After the State of Florida SOS certified that Bush won the State, Gore did not give up, but continued to try to overturn Bush’s victory. He stopped his efforts only when the U S St stopped him. Everyone who lived through those time knows that is the truth.

        2. “I think it’s also critical to understand that, as I’ve been telling candidates who have come to see me, you can run the best campaign, you can even become the nominee, and you can have the election stolen from you,”
          -H Clinton, May 5, 2019

        3. In typical liberal fashion you are comparing cupcakes to kumquats.
In simplest terms, if the 2016 election had anything resembling the discrepancies evident in 2020 the Democrats could have been heard screaming at the edge of the solar system.
Ignore circumstance and one looks to be a fool.

      2. Karen S.: You missed a salient point. Al Gore conceded defeat to George W. Bush in the 2000 election after the SC ended his campaign. In his concession speech Gore said: “I accept the finality of the outcome. And tonight, for the sake of our unity as a people and the strength of our democracy, I offer my concession”. Do you recall Trump saying this after the 2020 election? To this day Trump refuses to concede. And despite Clinton’s claims about the 2016 election she never indulged in 63+ suits to try to overturn the results. Trump is the only presidential candidate to refuse to accept the results of an election and instigate an insurrection to stay in power.

And you still cling to the false claim about the 2020 election. You say “ballots were subjected to completely different legal standards in each voting district in clear violation of the 14th Amendment”. No they weren’t!. Trump and his allies filed about 63 lawsuits making the same and similar claims. But in not one case did Trump offer any evidence of massive “election fraud”. That’s why Trump was never able to get a trial on the “merits”.

You also say “mail in voting in(sic) globally recognized as the method most vulnerable to fraud”. “Globally” recognized? By whom? I have been voting by mail for many, many years, even before 2020. and no one has ever claimed in my state that voting by mail is not safe and secure. But when Trump made the false claim you automatically adopt the lie. Just shows you are still drink too much of the Trumpster’s cool-aid. As to your claim every Dem candidate who loses claims it was “stolen” please give examples, if you can. In the 2020 election did any Dem candidate who lost to the GOP candidate claim it was “stolen”? I don’t recall.

The only “cognitive dissonance” is in all the bizarre and unsubstantiated claims you throw around on this blog!

    3. DM:
“Jonathan: When Ginni Thomas testified before the Jan. 6 Committee in September she still bizarrely clung to Trump’s false claim the 2020 election was stolen.”

Hardly bizarre? Read Matt Taibbi if you want the particulars on an intelligence establishment/big media/woke capital coup. You read, right? Not just propagandize? Boy are your grandkids gonna be pissed when they learn how to read, too.

    5. When Ginni Thomas testified before the Jan. 6 Committee in September she still bizarrely clung to Trump’s false claim the 2020 election was stolen. She still believes that.

People still bizzarely cling to the fanfiction, authored by Hillary Clinton and Marc Elias, that the Russians®™ stole the 2016 election.

But it is clear she played a role in the events that led up to the Jan. 6 insurrection. She urged officials in multiple states to go against the will of the voters by appointing alternative Trump electors.

      There was nio insurrection.

It put Thomas on record that she still believes the election was “stolen” from Trump.

      Which is beside the point.

He has refused to recuse himself in cases that have already been before the Court relating to Jan. 6

He had no reason to recuse.

Your insurrection fanfiction is just like yor Russian collusion fanfiction. You are just like the 1919 German ultrarightwing, with your own Stab in the Back®™ conspiracy theory.

  9. More Turley deflection spin. Ginni Thomas is a disgrace, and so is her husband. The wife of a SCOTUS justice directly involved in the Big Lie, spreading the false story that a “landslide victory” was stolen, based on no evidence, all to thwart the will of the American and Turley says “nothing to see here”. We don’t know whether she was referred to the DOJ for prosecution, but the lack of mention of her in the J 6 report is hardly an endorsement of her behavior or the impropriety of her husband being the sole holdout in a vote on release of emails that directly implicate her. Of course, this story is nothing but a deflection away from today’s big political news, which is the Republicans’ utter inability to lead or even pull together their own caucus for the mundane task of getting a speaker chosen—for the first time in 100 years, a major political party has failed to choose a speaker. You have a small group wielding power over a sniveling idiot who would sell his soul for the Speaker’s gavel–who already moved into the Speaker’s Office–and will do anything to appease them. McCarthy is being punished for rightly saying, on Jan 7th, 2021, that Donald Trump was responsible for the attack on the Capitol, A short time later, he sniveled up to the orange monster, just to get the support of the disciples. Republicans literally have no integrity or patriotism, and you’d have to be a fool to fail to see that democracy is in danger right now, and the gridlock and unreasonable demands for concessions and special perks demanded by the ultra right wingers is just a preview for the next 2 years. They don’t represent the views or values of most Americans, and their agenda will fail.

    1. The ultra-conservatives from the so-called “Freedom Caucus” are leveraging their vote on McCarthy in exchange for being put on committees that will control which bills will reach the floor to get a vote. Their agenda is described below (fromUSA Today):

“What was the point of that thwarted House Republican rebellion?

Leverage, as in holding the nation hostage so a small group of nihilistic ultraconservatives, most from safe districts and most of them members of the so-called Freedom Caucus, can dictate terms to the rest of us

And what would they do this year if they could hold America hostage by instigating a shutdown or debt crisis? They’ve already told us: Gift the rich with inflationary tax cuts; raise prescription prices; take back the $80 billion the under-resourced IRS just received to audit the rich, answer the phones and catch up on its backlog; cut Social Security and Medicare; shrink aid to Ukraine; and ratchet back clean energy spending.

In short, undercut most of what Democrats have done to solve actual problems.”

This is the big poliltical story Turley ignored today, and it has implications for all of us going forward.

        1. If it were a normal democracy, either the plurality winner would be elected, or there would be a run-off between the top two. Instead, we have a group of 20 extremists preventing Representatives from being sworn in and getting to work.

          1. And, here willl be the House agenda under Republicans, which will do nothing but waste taxpayer money and time: investigations into the “Hunter Biden Scandal”, Dr. Fauci, investigate the J 6 invesitgators, as if what happened on Jan 6, 2021 was OK and Trump is not responsible, but it will generate sound bites for alt-right media. Then, they’re going to go through the futile exercise of proposing legislation that will never pass the Senate, such as: generous tax cuts for the ultra-wealthy corporations and individuals, defunding the IRS, so it can’t catch up on audits, the paperwork and tax return backlog and start answering the phones again, rolling back clean energy initiatives so big corporations can again start polluting the air, land and water, trying to abuse migrants instead of working with Democrats on a workable solution (Biden proposed a bill to address the border crisis on his first day in office, and Republicans rebuffed him) and trying to shut down the government by refusing to raise the debt ceiling. All wastes of time and resources, just like the fiasco of trying to elect a Speaker of the House in which they’ve proven they are incapable of working toward consensus and solutions, but instead weilding power for their own little projects, all of which will eventually fail. The hold outs for voting for McCarthy are demanding plum committee assignments so they can control what bills reach the floor of the House, they will hold over his head the prospect of his being removed on the vote of just one member. They want to be able to fire and/or demote civil servant employees by attaching riders doing this to pending bills. The preceding list is among their priorities, all of which will fail miserably. The next 2 years will be unproductive until Americans can vote them out. It’s pathetic, really.

            1. Gigi/Natacha: Boy, you sure do carry around a lot of dead weight on your shoulders every day. I’m very glad that this blog site affords you a safe place and opportunity to lighten your load. Don’t forget to thank the good professor.

              1. Lin: but, you really can’t refute anything I’ve said, now can you? So, you try to talk down to me as if I’m an inferior. What your party is doing now and have pledged to do for the next 2 years will amount to nothing but wasting money and time. You know, it, too.

    2. The wife of a SCOTUS justice directly involved in the Big Lie, spreading the false story that a “landslide victory” was stolen, based on no evidence, all to thwart the will of the American and Turley says “nothing to see here”.

Which Big Lie would that be?

      The Russians®™ Stole the Election?

          1. Yes, that was the joke… Impeaching Thomas would not be about what his wife did, but what he did given knowledge of her political actions. Same thing. For the record, I don’t think impeachment is justified here, but the response to the OP’s suggestion was entirely lacking in critical thought.

  10. To the Professor: this is one of the best columns you’ve written. What is very important for many to understand is that the young and woke objectify other humans in the literal sense – those they disagree with or that bring them discomfort are a chair, or a desk, and they never saw Ginny as a human being with basic human dignity to begin with. She is furniture to throw in the fireplace because one feels a bit cold. Our dem elders absolutely know better; they don’t care in their pursuit of total authority. At this point the modern Left lies to you every time it opens its mouth, and one would be wise to take it as such. This is not going to end until we dislodge them.

Beware. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=uoMfIkz7v6s. In the future there will be two congressional committees that will be long remembered. The McCarthy hearings and the Jan 6 hearings. If it’s a crime to question the results of an election than all the Democrats on this YouTube video should be in jail. 16. Y’all, sometimes, a CTRL+F find on page is insufficient. Ginni Thomas may not mentioned by name, but she is referenced in the J6 report. The fact her name is not directly mentioned is largely a political decision, which, despite Turley’s incessant articles to the contrary, demonstrates that the J6 commission was not entirely a one-sided anti-GOP hit job.

    Some examples:

On Page 30, “As January 6th approached, John Eastman and others devised a plan whereby Vice President Pence would, as the presiding officer, declare that certain electoral votes from certain States could not be counted at the joint session.” We know Ginni Thomas was part of this plan.

The J6 Committee documents the “Eastman strategy for January 6th,” in which President Trump worked “with a handful of others to prepare a series of false Trump electoral slates for seven States Biden actually won.” (p41). Again, Ginni Thomas was an important member of this “handful of others.”

Then, again, on page 288, the report documents “the chorus of Trump allies” attempting to convince Rusty Bowers to follow Eastman’s fake elector plan. We know that Ginni Thomas was one of the Trump allies that directly emailed Rusty Bowers to pressure him to follow this admittedly extra-legal plan.

      1. Whatever helps you sleep at night buddy.

Eastman’s plan centered on Pence refusing to certify the results of the election. What was the stated reason for the riot? Pence’s refusal to go along with Eastman’s plan.

        “No connection,” really?

        1. “What was the stated reason for the riot? ”

In the real world, the identifiable cause of the riot starts with Nancy Pelosi. In the world of private enterprise she would be held culpable, sued, and possibly jailed.

Once again, ATS fails to note the salient facts. He is chronically factless.

“Ex-Capitol Police boss says politics hampered Jan. 6 security under Pelosi: ‘Recipe for disaster …

Ex-Chief Steven Sund compares Capitol security and intelligence lapses to 9/11, says he was “dumbfounded” by threat warnings that were kept from him.”…

The Capitol Police chief who handled the Jan. 6 riot says political bureaucracy under Speaker Nancy Pelosi put optics over safety and hampered his department from crafting an appropriate security plan to protect the home of Congress that fateful day…

He directly challenged Pelosi’s claim in a February 2021 news conference that her Speaker’s office played no role in Capitol security, noting he communicated with Pelosi through then-House Sergeant at Arms Paul Irving, who resigned along with Sund. …

Pentagon first offered National Guard troops to Sund’s department on Jan. 2, 2021, four full days ahead of the tragedy.

          1. All liberal anonymous commenters look alike to you. Sometimes you even confuse anonymous commenters with liberals who post under other names (Svelaz, Jeff, …)

            1. Yet, in the past when you said that, you were proven wrong.

Take note you don’t bother commenting on the important things. You are an empty bag of wind.

              1. Nope.

You’ve even admitted confusing Svelaz with an Anonymous you call (ATS — though you are the one and only ATS): https://jonathanturley.org/2022/04/10/hate-speech-linkedin-disables-air-force-vets-account-after-criticizing-loan-forgiveness/comment-page-1/#comment-2173248

Here you are calling Sammy “ATS”: https://jonathanturley.org/2022/04/10/hate-speech-linkedin-disables-air-force-vets-account-after-criticizing-loan-forgiveness/comment-page-1/#comment-2173223

Your insults always describe you, not the person you’re insulting.

                1. Anonymous the Stupid, Your links bring my name into your foolishness. You are known for your lies, trickery, deception, multiple identities, and pretend friends. That is not something one generally wishes to stand behind, but you do.

I frequently reply to you using an anonymous icon because I don’t want people wasting their time reading the cr-p between you and me. I even let you know when those posts are mine, proven by your present links.

I will inform you that I am not the only one to call you Anonymous the Stupid or ATS. Others do in increasing numbers, and some do so anonymously. I am perfectly content taking responsibility for those responses that accurately label you as such, even when they are not mine.

In prior disputes of so-called mistaken identity, I proved you misread what was said, or I explained where the mistake came from. In the end, you are deflecting from your errors of fact which are continuous. That is fine. I don’t expect you to admit your mistakes from the Russia Hoax and earlier errors to the present debates about Twitter and rage. You never do on the big points unless you are trapped.

I am happy with who I am as S. Meyer. You seem ill at ease with your anonymous name and quirky reputation.

          2. Failure to properly secure the Capitol may have been a contributing factor why the riot was as bad as it was, but it wasn’t the REASON why rioting occurred. Why would security be necessary if rioters had no desire to riot? That doesn’t make any sense.

After hearing Pence was going to certify the election, Oathkeeper Thomas Caldwell “grabbed up my American flag and said let’s take the damn Capitol.” Prosecutors have electronic messages providing this evidence. https://www.wusa9.com/article/news/national/capitol-riots/insurrection-act-was-just-legal-cover-for-oath-keepers-jan-6-plan-prosecutors-say-in-opening-arguments-stewart-rhodes-jessica-watkins-kelly-meggs/65-f6309c8c-0cd9-42d2-9ecd-91410d398885

There is plenty of other evidence… the Hang Mike Pence chants, etc.

Regardless, Ejercito’s comment that fake elector plan had “no connection” to the riot is clearly incorrect. Pivoting to a discussion of the Capitol’s security plans is a deflection at best from the original post.

            1. “Failure to properly secure the Capitol may have been a contributing factor why the riot was as bad as it was”

There are always people who will riot and do illegal things. That is why we have police to threaten and jail to dissuade such people. What happened isn’t acceptable but:

Opportunity is the number one cause of a criminal act. Without opportunity, there is no criminal act.

Nancy Pelosi provided the opportunity by refusing troops. She also kept information from the police regarding intelligence information.

Incitement is another cause of what happened. We all know by now that Ray Epps was inciting a riot based on the videos that you never looked at or lied about. He is not in jail because he was an agent of the FBI or some other left-wing group or person (Nancy Pelosi remains a possibility). We know this in part based on the kidnapping of Governor Whitmer, in which the FBI was involved. We also note that some people who broke in were not arrested and were thought to be from the left or Antifa.

What else did we see that links Pelosi to the crimes committed on Jan 6? Four protestors were killed by the Capitol Police. Two were murdered, and we can see the video of those two murders. We can see a black officer beating Boyland while Boyland was down before she died. We also see Police Officers throwing people off the balconies causing severe injury. That tells us a lot about the attitude of some of the police officers. That type of violent attitude comes from the top, Pelosi.

Maybe the training of the police has something to do with what happened. The reports show poor training. Yes, as top dog Pelosi is partly responsible for that as well.

What about the perimeter fencing that was not put up? Pelosi didn’t like it.

There is so much to blame Pelosi for. The protest was legitimate and expected. Pelosi’s response was an illegal attack on her enemies where she wished to do great harm and didn’t care about the lives of the police officers or the protestors.

            2. .”but it wasn’t the REASON why rioting occurred”

The reason for the protestors to be there was because of all the criminal acts by the left including election fraud. Add that to an administration that is anti-American where the leader, Joe Biden, traded American security to line his own pockets.

              1. Not to mention all the rioting in 2020, including a riot in front of the White House on May 29, 2020, when rioters threw water bottles at Secret Service agents.

That the Secret Service did nort open fire on these rioters in return was just moral luck.

                1. I assume you are talking about riots over the death of George Floyd. The left does what it always does, while conservatives check that their ties are on straight.

            3. “There is plenty of other evidence… the Hang Mike Pence chants, etc.”

Does that mean you don’t remember the signs saying Kill Bush?

You are showing yourself for what you are, an ignorant person with tunnel vision.

              1. ATS writes and self-deletes: “You are showing yourself for what you are, an ignorant person with tunnel vision.”
And you’re childish, as usueal. Just stop it.”

What did I say that isn’t true? Thank you for proving your ignorance and then trying to hide it. It is good that you wish to bury your stink, but it would be better if you didn’t create it.

You previously argued that Trump didn’t authorize the troops, Pelosi was not in control and all sorts of things. As usual, you have been proven wrong, but there is no admission yet, and it is doubtful that significant repentance will come. This dishonesty is why no one should believe a word you say.

                1. ATS responds again with another self deletion. Then he will complain that the moderator deletes his comments: “Said like the bully-boy you clearly are.. Anon-S. Meyer doesn’t like anonymous comments, so he plays games. He needs to grow up.”

Where is your content. Have you no intellect?

Here is additional evidence for one of my claims. Where is yours? I forget, you don’t have evidence, just links to nowhere which is where you came from.

House GOP locates emails, texts showing Pelosi office directly involved in failed Jan. 6 security

Democrat leadership blamed for “knee-jerk reaction” and failing to equip police in security staffer’s email after tragedy.

                  Pelosi
House Republicans have gathered a trove of text and email messages revealing that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office was directly involved in the creation and editing of the Capitol security plan that failed during the Jan. 6, 2021 riot and that security officials later declared they had been “denied again and again” the resources needed to protect one of the nation’s most important homes of democracy.

The internal communications were made public Wednesday in a report compiled by Republican Reps. Rodney Davis, Jim Banks, Troy Nehls, Jim Jordan and Kelly Armstrong that encompasses the results of months of investigation they did of evidence that had been ignored by the Democrat-led Jan. 6 committee. The lawmakers were authorized by House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy to do their own probe.

HTTP for the entire investigation at that site.

                  1. ATS keeps responding and self deleting while he whines and says he will complain to Professor Turley. He says, “It is not “civil” to bully people. We’ll see how Jonathan Turley feels about it”

How stupid can you be? You complain about being bullied and keep responding and threatening. You are a wimp without morals or scruples. You insult, demean and act spitefully to all the members on the blog.

Go back to your psychiatrist and increase your meds.

                    1. It looks like ATS decided not to have his most recent reply self-deleted, but maybe it is a delayed deletion so I will respond above.

                      “Take your own advice, bully-boy.”

This is from a pretty dumb person. He goes into minority areas and then starts using insulting ethnic slurs. He is surprised when they dump him into a garbage pail. He then complains about their response.

                      LOL

    1. @Anon,

Going after her was a political move against Thomas.
The whole committee was a waste of taxpayer dollars.

      1. So was DeSantis flying Venezuelan refugees to Martha’s vineyard. So what?

        1. And Biden sending quite a few JETS full of illegals to Westchester county New York in the middle of the night is okay, because he is a Democrat?

        2. How was “DeSantis flying Venezuelan refugees to Martha’s vineyard” a waste of taxpayer dollars? He is trying to stop millions of illegals from crossing the border.

You are pennywise and pound foolish.

          1. He spent about $650K per migrant on this flight. A bus would cost how much?

            $300 on Greyhound.

Taxpayers lost $649,700 per migrant on that deal.

(not to mention the migrants were in TX, not FL). Come on, man.

        3. Anonymous:

Border states need the rest of the states to chip in and do their fair share. It’s not possible for border states to absorb 2 million and more illegal aliens every year. Many of them are sick. The kids are ESL and most are far behind in school. Having too many such students concentrated in too few schools drastically brings down the quality of education for the rest of the students. The rest of the schools of the nation need to do their fair share. When these students are sufficiently spread out, then each school can concentrate resources and bring them up to speed. By taking the NIMBY approach, the kids get concentrated in a relatively few, mostly rural schools, and the quality of education plummets.

It’s not a waste of taxpayer dollars to spend illegal aliens to other states, rather than border states shouldering the overwhelming financial burden. Joe Biden OWES border states. Their drowning in fentanyl, crime, disease, and too many illegal aliens to take care of. BP agents are going home with scabies, antibiotic resistant TB, and other diseases because illegal aliens skip the legal immigration process, which includes health checks and care.

Also, if it’s acceptable for Joe Biden to bus and fly illegal aliens to conservative states, which already bear more than their fair share of the illegal immigration burden, then it must also be acceptable for border states to disperse them to other states.

Once Biden’s Administration gave illegal aliens permission to stay, then they are free to go anywhere. If it’s kidnapping to bus them, with their permission, then it must also be kidnapping for California governors to bus homeless people elsewhere.

          1. Off topic, but your post suggests that flying via private jet migrants from TX to MA is the best way to solve the immigration situation. See above post regarding a bus option. I’d certainly rather save $649,700 per migrant and go with a bus to save taxpayer money.

I agree that border states should not shoulder the burden of incoming immigrants. There are much better ways to do this than sending them elsewhere. For example, the federal government should offer location-specific visas to encourage immigrants to move to the heartland. We should also promote legal immigration. But, alas, we don’t have folks in either party who want to solve actual problems. This, in large part, is due to redistricting practices than encourage extremism (as best exemplified by the Speaker voting at present).

Finally, please refrain from repeating the same hackneyed tropes regarding immigrant children and educational attainment. There is plenty of evidence that suggests schools benefit from having immigrant attendance. For example, this study demonstrates that the presence of immigrant students has a positive effect on the academic achievement of US-born students, especially for students from disadvantaged backgrounds: https://anderson-review.ucla.edu/presence-of-immigrant-students-boosts-test-scores-for-all/

    2. Eastman’s plan was nearly identical to one crafted by Lawrence Tribe for Hillary Clinton in 2016.
While a hail mary that was unlikely to succeed, it is consistent with the constitution and the law, and past election history.

Electors put forward by state legislatures are not “Fake”. they are perfectly constitutional – in fact they are arguably more constitutional.

The constitution vests the power over presidential elections and electors in the state legislature – they are a part of our system of checks and balances – just as the congressional process of challenging electors is part of that system of checks and balances.
