Wray Confirms that FBI Accepted Lab Theory as Likely “For Quite Some Time Now”

Yesterday, FBI Director Christopher Wray confirmed that the FBI believes that Covid-19 did originate from a lab in China. While liberal pundits have tried to dismiss the similar finding of the Department of Energy, the public attention of the FBI will make it more difficult to spin out of this major story. Yet, the most interesting moment with Wray came in an interview with Fox News host Bret Baier. Wray told Baier that the agency has, “for quite some time now, assessed that the origins of the pandemic are most likely a potential lab incident in Wuhan.” The notion that the FBI has held this belief for “quite some time now” is unnerving since it remained stoney silent as experts and commentators were censored and shunned for even uttering the theory.

The disclosure of the Energy Department’s conclusion has followed a familiar attack pattern. While the Wall Street Journal report referenced the supporting view of intelligence officials, some of the left reflectively followed the same modus operandi in attacking the Department like it was some isolated scientist who dared to speak up. Comedian Stephen Colbert ridiculed the Department for failing to make enough charging stations and claimed that this was “outside the lane” of the Department. In other words, a Department tasked with this investigation by the President with extensive lab search facilities lacked expertise to render an opinion. Colbert even noted “You don’t see the Census Bureau building nukes.”

It is a typical attack point for many on the left, but it works better when you are stripping some luckless, lonely academic of speaking opportunities or censoring him on social media. For his part, Wray seemed to cut off such a similar attack in his interview with Baier:

“Let me step back for a second, the FBI has folks, agents, professionals, analysts, virologists, microbiologists, etc. who focus specifically on the dangers of biological threats, which include things like novel viruses like COVID and the concerns that, in the wrong hands, some bad guys, a hostile nation-state, a terrorist, a criminal, the threats that those could pose. So, here, you’re talking about a potential leak from a Chinese government-controlled lab that killed millions of Americans, and that’s precisely what that capability was designed for. I should add that our work related to this continues, and there are not a whole lot of details I can share that aren’t classified. I will just make the observation that the Chinese government, it seems to me, has been doing its best to try to thwart and obfuscate the work here…and that’s unfortunate for everybody.”

In other words, this is “our lane.”

However, the failure to previously disclose this conclusion was troubling. For years, scientists faced censorship for even raising the lab theory as a possible explanation for the virus. Their reputations and careers were shredded by a media flash mob. The Washington Post declared this a “debunked” coronavirus “conspiracy theory.” The New York Times’ Science and Health reporter Apoorva Mandavilli was calling any mention of the lab theory “racist.”

When a Chinese researcher told Fox News that this was man-made, the network was attacked and the left-leaning PolitiFact slammed her with her a “pants on fire rating.”

The social media companies censored thousands of postings to prevent the very discussion of the theory. Academic, media, and government forces aligned to prevent this — and other debates on Covid — from taking place.

The FBI was part of that general censorship effort. The Twitter Files has established that as many as 80 agents may have been employed to target citizens and others for censorship on social media. We also know that the CDC was actively involved in such censorship efforts.

When those files were released, Democrats went into a full attack mode. Some even accused those wanting to investigate the FBI’s role in censorship of being “Putin lovers” in a type of Red Scare 2.0.

I testified at the recent hearing on the files and Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) adopted the same Colbert-like attack. She denounced me for offering “legal opinions” without actually working at Twitter. It is like saying that a witness should not discuss the content of the Pentagon Papers unless he worked at the Pentagon. It was particularly bizarre because the content of the Twitter Files (like the Pentagon papers) are “facts.” The implication of those facts are opinions. I was asked about both the factual content of Twitter files and their legal implications. Nevertheless, the effort was to portray anyone objecting to censorship as “outside their lane” or engaging in raw speculation. Yet, the Democrats have still opposed any investigation into the facts of government-supported censorship.

We now know that the FBI, for “quite some time now,” has agreed with scientists and experts who were being censored over this theory. It is not clear if the FBI actively sought their censorship on social media. However, at best, the FBI stayed silent as the media pushed the narrative that the lab theory was a racist, debunked conspiracy theory.

That record is similar to what occurred on the Russian collusion scandal. Early on in the scandal, the FBI was informed that the infamous Steele dossier was not only paid for by the Hillary Clinton campaign but may be part of a disinformation campaign by Russian intelligence. Key sources were pegged as likely Russian intelligence assets. Yet none of this was revealed for years as the media relentlessly pounded away on the allegations and attacked anyone who expressed doubts on the basis of the investigation. Notably, a great deal of information damaging to then President Donald Trump leaked from the FBI but not the fact that it was told that this might be a Russian disinformation effort.

Obviously, the FBI’s role is not to correct the record in political or scientific debates. However, the FBI was repeatedly asked about this theory by Congress over the years and never indicated publicly that it had made this determination.

It is also not clear if the House and Senate intelligence committees were told of this finding. In May 2021, then-House Intelligence Committee Chair Adam Schiff said that the Committee was assessing the intelligence. He warned critics from making any “any premature or politically motivated conclusions.” He promised a conclusion within a couple months.

If the FBI had reached this conclusion “some time” ago, the question is whether it or agencies like CDC were still supporting the censorship of those raising the theory. This is why the public should be focused as much on the censorship as the science behind the lab theory controversy. We will likely debate for years the merits of the theory. However, that is a debate that many in the media, academia, and the government actively sought to prevent for years. We need to know how our own government may have contributed to that ignoble effort.

  1. All who have blindly accepted our government’s propaganda on this as well as all matters related to the CCP virus should pay heed. The house of cards that was erected and has stood for about as long as any flimsy structure can is teetering. When the director of the FBI tells us there are “a whole lot of details” that cannot yet be shared and clearly indicates the investigation remains ongoing, it should be taken as advice to vacate the house asap.

  2. It was widely reported when the IC published its declassified report on Covid origins in late October 2021 that the FBI was the agency that concluded with moderate confidence that it came from a lab. I haven’t checked to see if this was reported at the end of August when a two page summary was published. So perhaps official confirmation is new but this news is not. We have know it at least from the Fall of 2021.

It is not clear yet when the Energy department changed its view. If I recall correctly, as early as Spring 2020 the Lawrence Livermore lab, linked to DOE, said that the lab leak theory was plausible.

    1. To continue this a bit, the impetus for the suppression of the lab leak theory appears to have come from Collins and Fauci, and Farrar, starting in early February 2020, after they were alerted in late January to the possibility that the virus was engineered. The Lancet and Nature articles in February and March allowed Fauci to refer to the work of scientists to shut down any discussion of the theory. He was involved at least in the Nature article, though this was not disclosed at the time. As of January 31, Kristian Andersen, the principal author of the Nature article, had written to Fauci saying that the virus appeared inconsistent with natural evolution. By February 4, after the February 1 conference call, he was saying that view was a conspiracy theory. Fauci appears to have done this to divert attention from NIAID’s funding of GoF research in China on coronaviruses. NIAID awarded a multi million dollar grant to Andersen a few months later.

Trump and Pompeo were saying at the same time that they had reason to believe it came from the lab. But the media viewed this as a racist conspiracy theory, enabled by Fauci’s citing of “the science.” It was not until Pompeo released his paper in January 2021, and Nicholas Baker and Steve Hilton published stories that same month, that the theory began to gain life again. It became significant when Nicholas Wade published his article in the spring of 2021. It was only then that Biden said it should be looked at by the IC and the media lifted its censorship. He had previously shut down Pompeo’s investigation into the matter.

Lawrence Livermore concluded in a classified paper in May 2020 that the theory was plausible. This should have been made public right then. I wonder who knew about it?

  3. Literally, one of the most consequential lies of omission in history.

  4. Will all those who were wrong now admit they were wrong?
Apologize to those they tried to censor, silence or cancel?
They seem to take one of two courses of action:
    1) Double or triple down.
    2) Just pretend it never existed, they never did or said such thing.
Lets watch an see what Stephen Colbert does or says in the next few days if anything at all.
BTW, Stephen Colbert is not a comedian.

    1. Upstatefarmer,

Apologize for what? What you or Turley call censoring is not going ahead and start jumping to conclusions without evidence.

Turley calls mockery of the right’s paranoid delusions “attacks” is typical. Just as righteous criticism is deemed an “attack” instead of what it really is, criticism.

Turley is trying to salvage a collapsing narrative that is desperate for anything that can lend credence to the right’s long held assumptions that have always lacked evidence. By focusing on the phrase, “known for some time” instead of the fact that they’ve known for a while that they are still not sure if the virus really did come from a lab. That’s why they keep saying, “most likely” instead of “we have confirmed”. It’s a huge difference.

      1. What you or Turley call censoring is not going ahead and start jumping to conclusions without evidence.

But thats what the govt did, and demanded. They jumped to the conclusion tth origin was zoonotic, and the lab leak theory was debunked.

Except they lacked evidence, and spear headed censorship

        1. Iowan2, they theorized that it came from animal origins. The lab theory was not debunked, it was dismissed as unlikely.

The problem with those two assumptions or theories is China’s lack of transparency since the first cases did appear there.

Here’s my take on this. I believe, it did originate in China. Most likely, LIKELY, a lab. That doesn’t mean I believe it certainly originated in a lab. It’s possible. It’s also possible that it came from animal interactions (wet markets).

The problem, which I think is what every government agency has, is that once China was identified as the source. Chinese officials did not want to be accused of it. Trump may have made their aversion to sharing crucial information and giving access to international scientists to the region much worse when he started accusing them and laying blame. Trump could have been more diplomatic about it. But because he’s a total a$$clown he made it impossible to gain the trust of the Chinese so they could cooperate.

All the anti-Chinese rhetoric and rise of racist attitudes towards Asians in general, thanks to Trump’s rhetoric and his supporters ignorance and racism it closed any opportunities to find out the true origins of the virus.

It’s more than likely that we will never find out the truth. But, republicans need a scapegoat and a reason to lay blame so they can rile up their constituents for political gain.

          1. Svelaz, the media and social media. completely shut down discussion of the lab leak theory at a time when Lawrence Livermore had concluded in a classified paper from May 2020 that it was plausible. It was literally described by some as a “debunked” conspiracy theory. They were enabled to do this by Fauci, who cited Andersen’s Nature article as evidence of “the science”.

            1. “Svelaz, the media and social media. completely shut down discussion of the lab leak theory at a time when Lawrence Livermore had concluded in a classified paper from May 2020 that it was plausible.”

Social media can censor whatever it wants. If they believed the spread of this information was against their policies it was their prerogative to not allow it. Keep in mind that at the same time violence against Asians was rising. They were being blamed for bringing the virus over. Racist and violent rhetoric also rose in social media, often incited by Trump’s rhetoric and his supporters conspiracy theories. There were so many conspiracy theories and rampant blaming of Asians on social media. They shut down anything that could lead to more animosity and potential violence against one group.

The Lawrence Livermore lab’s findings were the same as today’s. “Plausible”.

              1. What does lab leak have to do with anti-Asian racism? The other theory was wet market, also involving China.

                1. Daniel,

“What does lab leak have to do with anti-Asian racism?”

The theory originated in right wing chat rooms and social media. That’s where trump got his idea. He often got his ideas from cooky weirdos and racists in the internet.

They were looking for something or somebody to blame. The idea that it originated from a lab gives license to those who would be violent towards Asians. Social media was aware of that. They had reason to believe that letting those conspiracies at the time posed a risk of further violence against Asians.

                  1. This is completely wrong. Tom Cotton was I think the first public official to mention the possibility of a lab leak publicly. Fauci et al we’re considering it at great length privately in late January early February.

              2. “Plausible” is not the same as likely. And the point about the LL paper is that its conclusions were not made public by the government at the time. Had they been made public, the conspiracy theory meme could have been ended.

                  1. Now you are just being ridiculous. Plausible means believable. It may or may not be likely.

                  2. Without discussing the meanings of both words in context of their use, the proper place to resolve this question is the dictionary, not a thesaurus. Next time purchase both.

              3. “There were so many conspiracy theories and rampant blaming of Asians on social media.”

So the rest of us, who are not racist idiots, should be “protected” from seeking and knowing the truth, because some racist idiots somewhere might might misuse the truth.

Somebody, please protect us from our “protectors.”

          2. Wow, what doublespeak.

“start jumping to conclusions without evidence.”

“they theorized that it came from animal origins. The lab theory was not debunked, it was dismissed as unlikely.”

These two replies by you contradict your whole diatribe. Where was all this evidence of animal origins?

Also they were not theorizing, they were hypothesising. But only one was allowed to be talked about or you got CENSORED!

            1. Nobody said there was evidence it originated from animals. It was theorized as the most likely source at the time. Dismissing the theories that it came from a lab was made easier by the fact that it was being discussed and even claimed it did by conspiracy theory nut jobs at the time.

There was a LOT of blame going towards Asians and violence against Asians was rising. The lab talk was censored by social media at the time because they could. They were also convinced that unfounded claims and rhetoric surrounding a lab origin was coming from racist groups looking for someone to blame. Perpetrated the idea that it came from a lab would have given those wanting to blame Asians an excuse to perpetuate violence against them. Social media was/is legally allowed to censor to prevent or keep those sentiments from getting out of control.

It wasn’t just a government conspiracy. It was about groups, racist groups, and people like Trump using the conspiracy theories to their political benefit.

          3. it was dismissed as unlikely.

Dismissed, debunked. More pedantry. What evidence ‘dismissed’ the lab theory?

You keep pushing the debate away from the govt leading censorship of any lab leak discussion.

99% of your post is deflection and ignores the topic.

            1. Iowan2,

“Dismissed, debunked. More pedantry. What evidence ‘dismissed’ the lab theory?”

It was the LACK of evidence that led to the theory being dismissed as unlikely. THAT is the problem.

“You keep pushing the debate away from the govt leading censorship of any lab leak discussion.

99% of your post is deflection and ignores the topic.”

Nope. I’m pointing out the fact that everyone has one thing in common regarding these ideas about where the virus originated has little or no evidence to claim with certainty that it came from a lab. That’s it. That’s not censorship. It’s a lack of information that everyone agrees is the problem. They don’t have it and you see it as censorship.

              1. Nope. I’m pointing out the fact that everyone has one thing in common regarding these ideas about where the virus originated has little or no evidence to claim with certainty that it came from a lab

A viral pandemic started in China.
A city in China with a level 4 virology laboratory doing research of SARS viruses.

Thats called evidence. Supporting the lab theory

200,000 animal samples were tested for covid 19. That is evidence supporting the lab theory.

                1. Iowan2,

“A viral pandemic started in China.
A city in China with a level 4 virology laboratory doing research of SARS viruses.

Thats called evidence. Supporting the lab theory”

That’s not clear and convincing evidence. You’re citing circumstantial evidence.

“200,000 animal samples were tested for covid 19. That is evidence supporting the lab theory.”

That’s not evidence. Were these 200,000 animals at a lab? Is there proof that they belonged to the lab in question?

                  1. The virus’s genetic code, the evidence provided by Chinese researchers associated with the lab, and all the circumstantial evidence make the lab leak the most likely to such a statistical degree that one should consider it correct. You and other dopey people think differently because you lack the intellect to make decisions and move forward. Yet you and your dopey sidekicks thought the Steele Dossier was legitimate.

Those two decisions placed side by side, demonstrate that ideology has much to do with what you choose to believe and, in your case, is caused by immorality and dishonesty.

                  2. Were these 200,000 animals at a lab?

Were you hit in the head??

More than 200,000 animal sample were taken. In ever expanding circles, looking for the DNA matching covid 19.
You remember covid 19? A particularly virulent virus. So virulent it spread across the planet, some say, responsible for almost 7,000,000 deaths.

But that virus, originating in animals, at the epicenter of the outbreak has NEVER been found in even one animal.

                    That is evidence

              2. There was lots of evidence for lab leak, including not least the unique genetic sequencing of the furin cleavage site. There was no evidence, and still isn’t, for zoonotic origin. The Pangolin theory that Collins, Fauci, and Andersen latched onto in mid-February was quickly disproved. Even the Chinese dropped the wet market theory. Yet lab leak was dismissed as a conspiracy theory while zoonotic origin was upheld.

                1. Daniel, “There was lots of evidence for lab leak, including not least the unique genetic sequencing of the furin cleavage site.”

That evidence only suggests there MAY be a lab connection. It also points out Fauci’s original theory that it had zoonotic origins.

“Severe acute respiratory syndrome‐coronavirus (SARS‐CoV)‐2′s origin is still controversial. Genomic analyses show SARS‐CoV‐2 likely to be chimeric, most of its sequence closest to bat CoV RaTG13, whereas its receptor binding domain (RBD) is almost identical to that of a pangolin CoV. Chimeric viruses can arise via natural recombination or human intervention. The furin cleavage site in the spike protein of SARS‐CoV‐2 confers to the virus the ability to cross species and tissue barriers, but was previously unseen in other SARS‐like CoVs. Might genetic manipulations have been performed in order to evaluate pangolins as possible intermediate hosts for bat‐derived CoVs that were originally unable to bind to human receptors? Both cleavage site and specific RBD could result from site‐directed mutagenesis, a procedure that does not leave a trace. Considering the devastating impact of SARS‐CoV‐2 and importance of preventing future pandemics, researchers have a responsibility to carry out a thorough analysis of all possible SARS‐CoV‐2 origins.”

                  https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7744920/

It’s not definitive evidence which is why everyone else still says “it’s likely” or “plausible”.

                  1. It’s not definitive evidence

                    More pedantry.

Who said anything about “definitive”? Its pedantry and deflection.

Get back to the government claiming the lab theory was bogus, and demanding the media censor any discussion of the lab theory.

          4. Svelaz: thank you. What is becoming clearer to me every day is that Turley, relying his claim as a bona fide First Amendment expert, is being used as Fox to attack anyone and everyone Democratic as liars, or as engaging in censorship. Clearly, this tactic has been employed to deflect away from the proven lies dispensed by his employer, all as shown by the summary judgment responses disclosed in the Dominion lawsuit. My favorite quote is Murdoch’s explanation for allowing Mike Lindell to spout his nonsense, which is that it’s not red or blue–it was green! It’s just like the false comparisons between the George Floyd murder protests and the insurrection–the preplanned insurrection was the direct result of the Big Lie, aided and abetted by Fox hosts who admitted they KNEW it was a lie. Capitol Police officers were injured–5 people died. The protests that turned into riots were not the product of lies about a “stolen landslide victory”, but pent up frustration over yet another black man tortured to death by police while other police stood by and watched him beg for his life while he was dying under the knee of a senior officer. So, they trot out Turley to engage in “whataboutism”. As you point out, it’s likely that the world will never find out the truth about the sources of COVID, and also, despite the FBI and DOE’s conclusions, there’s still no scientific consensus–but does that stop the Fox stooges like Turley from screaming: “see–we knew you were lying and hiding the truth”, and then launching into unwarranted claims of government censorship? There is still no consensus, and, like you say, may never be. It’s indeed ironic that Turley screams about truth when he criticizes Democrats, but is deliberately blind to the outright, proven lies of Hannity, Ingraham, Pirro, Carlson and the other Fox “hosts”.

      2. How about apologizing for being a state or corporate clown when the rest of us, just like Upstate, are real people simply expressing our thoughts? Upstate probably has more generations in this country than you, as do I, even as an immigrant.

You are a stooge, Svelaz, and if you aren’t paid, then you should demand recompense. Go to ****. The rest of us are trying to actually talk about things. Upstate has clearly said they are not white, they are not hardcore conservative – they are just a real person sharing what they know and are concerned about given the circumstances, not what they saw on tik Tok, as you seem to have done from your cave. You, on the other hand, are either a trust fund baby in a brownstone in Manhattan who doesn’t even know that money and taxes or credit even exist thanks to generational mom and daddy wealth, who has never broken a fingernail doing any kind of real work, that keep your brownstone’s power on, while people like Upstate keep vegetables in your grocery, or a paid comment bomber to be here, every day, with such prolificness. F*** off. Nobody here listens to a thing you type. The rest of us are honest about who we are because we believe in a shared destiny, human compassion, whomever we are. That was at one time, before they were just Chinese tools, that the American left used to believe in. You are a cancer, and that you very likely do it for paltry dollars makes you even worse. I doubt you’ll go away, and the irony that your paycheck depends upon comment bombing here speaks for itself. One name: Robespierre. Count your blessings while you can. No one that wants to be free will tolerate this forever, and no one will feel sorry for you.

        1. James,
          Well said.
Based off your post, the Costco Chicken said some things about me.
I am going to make it a point not to read his comment. He is not worthy of my time.
          Or respect.

        2. James, you whine too much. It seems you’re more comfortable listening to echoes then different points of view.

All you’re demonstrating is that at least I’m pointing out facts that are hard to refute. Thanks

  5. I wish the messenger was different. Like Fox Moulder, “I Want To Believe” but have next to zero confidence that Wray or anyone else in ‘leadership’ at the FBI is being forthcoming today anymore than they’ve been for decades.

  6. I am wondering when Wray will “confirm that the FBI is and has been highly POLITICIZED for quite some time” … Names of note as proof – McCabe, Comey, Mueller.

  7. Wray has held a wet finger in the air and determined that the direction of the wind is changing. The question that comes to mind is, what did the FBI know and when did they know it? Comey knew that the Steele Dossier was crap but he didn’t say a word. The FBI says it doesn’t get into politics but they went hand in hand with the Democrats down the primrose path. Now that their love affair has been exposed they fear the prick of the thorns. How does Wray send 80 agents to Twitter to determine what can be seen or heard? Like the detectives in the old movies would say, it’s time to come clean shorty. I wonder if control of the house has anything to do with their newly found revelations? They should be called to answer.

  8. The line debunkers often use to thwart conspiracy theories: “In order for your conspiracy theory to be true, there would have to be so many players involved from the top down. I can’t believe that everyone from the president to low-level law enforcement officials would be in on a coup of this sort.” This conspiracy theory involves the preposterous theory that they all conspired to prevent Donald Trump’s re-election. Bret’s follow up should’ve been, “If you’ve known for “some time now” why didn’t you say something sooner. I understand that you probably needed sometime to compile the evidence and properly adjudicate it, but how long did the FBI know this information, and how many reputations and professional careers were ruined in the interim?” We’ll never know if the conspiracy theory is true or not, of course, but when the stars start aligning, conspiracy theories are born and propagated.

    1. People often forget a true conspiracy only requires two people’s participation to harm a third, or more. It has never meant, ‘everyone must be in on it’ to be true.

    2. “Bret’s follow up should’ve been, “If you’ve known for “some time now” why didn’t you say something sooner. I understand that you probably needed sometime to compile the evidence and properly adjudicate it, but how long did the FBI know this information,…”

They still didn’t have enough evidence to state with certainty that the claim it came from a lab was true. They have “known for a while” that they still didn’t have enough evidence to say the theories or claims were true.

They had nothing new to investigate, no evidence other than what they already had.

    1. This is hilarious. Turley tries to sow suspicion by relying on one phrase, “quite some time now”, to portray some sort of “cover up” or whatever helps feed the conspiracy theory nut jobs.

The FBI is saying what everyone else has been saying. We don’t know. The key phrase “most likely” meaning, we still don’t have any definitive evidence. The FBI’s position is no different than the DOE.

“When a Chinese researcher told Fox News that this was man-made, the network was attacked and the left-leaning PolitiFact slammed her gave her a “pants on fire rating.”

Well, we know Fox News lies to its viewers to keep them satisfied with their notions of wild conspiracy theories. Given the recent admissions from Fox News that they are willing to lie and help their preferred candidate cheat because it’s good business rather than ethical journalism. Anything coming from Fox News cannot be taken seriously. They are literally the “fake news” network, oh the irony.

It must be interesting for Turley to write about Fox News reporting while knowing that the network’s credibility is highly suspect. Fox News lies to their viewers because they are afraid they will lose them if they told the truth. Meaning they would have a harder time competing with real news organizations.

      1. Svelaz is pulling the old Clinton defense, “this is old news”, “this has already been litigated” or “what difference does it make at this time”. Svelaz was the one boy crying all along that the lab theory was a lie and a conspiracy, a Trump and Fox conspiracy. Now this partisan fool or Dem operative is saying some garbage about “this is what we have been saying….” Stop it Dem, take the L and give up at last. You lied, Biden lied, the media lied, Hollywood lied, the CDC lied, the NIH lied, Fauci lied, and the medical professionals lied. You are the fool, most of s never believed for one second that it came from anywhere other than the lab.

As John Stewart, a left wing partisan and someone that little Svelaz adores, said, “it is like if a chocolate disease was first discovered attacking people in Hershey PA and everyone said it evolved from bats and not the CHOCOLATE FACTORY’. We all knew that the VIRUS that arose in WUHAN came from the VIRUS LAB in WUHAN. But Svelaz and the Dems thought it would help Trump, for some inane reason, if it was actually China’s fault. You know China, the nation that candidate Biden said, “they are not an enemy, they are just a competitor”. No joke man, no lie man, those are his words.

        1. Hullbobby,

“Svelaz was the one boy crying all along that the lab theory was a lie and a conspiracy, a Trump and Fox conspiracy.”

Lying about what I and others have said is an admission that you have no argument.

It’s notable that you can’t defend your position. All you have is insults and innuendo. Not once you have been able to support your arguments. You choose to deflect instead.

        2. Hullbobby, Fox News has been lying to you from the very beginning. You were taken for a ride and you went along wearing a goofy grin only a gullible idiot would be proud of.
I get that it would be embarrassing to admit you were gullible enough to bite into their Sh*T sandwitch with gusto. I wouldn’t blame you.

      2. “It must be interesting for Turley to write about Fox News reporting while knowing that the network’s credibility is highly suspect. “

News is always highly suspect, but of the major news broadcasters, Fox is among the best being one of the most accurate and one of the few that permits diversity of opinion.

When will Svelaz learn to get things straight? The answer is, when he learns how to educate himself.

        1. Anonymous,

“News is always highly suspect, but of the major news broadcasters, Fox is among the best being one of the most accurate and one of the few that permits diversity of opinion.”

Fox has been exposed as the biggest liar among the networks. They’ve never been accurate. “Diversity of opinion “ must be your Fox News euphemism for lying. It’s pretty sad watching how gullible you are and how you have been taken advantage of. No wonder Fox News relies on people like you.

          1. In this response, Svelaz you opened your raincoat wider than usual.

    2. Iowan2 says,

“Who wants to talk about stolen elections, NOW?

Another subject we have been told is totally debunked.”

Well…we know Fox News lied to your face for a long time. Even they admit it wasn’t stolen. Therefore the claim was indeed debunked.

  9. Instead of feeling vindicated and/or satisfied with the news, many Americans might now fear that the highest levels of government were indeed so capable of controlling the permeation and accessibility of information throughout the nation’s academic, entertainment, scientific, institutional, and mass communication industries.

    1. Lin, knowing how Fox News has been deliberately lying to their viewers knowing full well what they were doing. American should fear the media as well, right?

It’s interesting that no single conservative has had the courage to talk about the lying from Fox News. Why should Americans trust anything coming out of Fox News?

  10. How long can a nation survive when its citizens have no faith in its institutions?

  11. Sigh. So basically, they and our leaders that followed them *knowingly* lied to us virtually the entire time (in my state, the governor issued mandates like lightning even though they were in Washington the majority of the time, no feet on the ground to speak of). So did the CDC, the WHO, etc. I have shared before that I had the very first strain, as did my wife, way back in January of 2020, meaning we were likely immune the entire time. I have talked to a great many others in a similar position since. I honestly do not know what else to say. That phrase sure comes up a lot for me since November of 2020.

Our media continues to gaslight and carry water hoping we have forgotten our own experience of just a few short years ago. Clearly, democracy isn’t going to fix any of this with votes or hearings. I pray that our courts remain intact, as they seem to be our only recourse, though I do not expect any of the players in this atrocity will face any consequences whatsoever. One that they are getting here is us leaving the state altogether, and we won’t be back. Not only are we experienced professionals that have excelled in our professions in spite of the madness in a place where basic competence is in short supply, they can kiss our tax dollars goodbye forever, and we are never coming back.

Thank you for the piece, and for your compassion and sanity, Professor.

  12. The original objective was to deny any lab as the origin and now China is the culprit. Now Ukraine makes sense, and they will do anything, including sending your kids to war, to prevent the Russians from getting their hands on the US owned labs in Ukraine (wink, wink). Zelensky will milk the cow and has an exit strategy. Cheers!

  13. AGAIN, This is not about which theory prevails.

The debate here is the Government leading the charge to censor any person or entity that dared discuss evidence of a differing view.

Multiple stories have been “debunked”, only to learn no evidence existed to debunk anything.

The United States Government, is operating an extensive propaganda campaign on multiple subjects.

  14. “tan” should not be here in the first place. She should definitely go back where she belongs – on foot naturally as she wouldn’t want to utilise anything invented by evil stupid Whitey – where she would not have to listen to White folk, put uop with White folk, be around White folk, etc etc. They are more than happy to wear their ineffective/counterproductive symbols of servitude ‘masks’ in red china, or wherever in asia she belongs.

  15. A profile in courage.

Long after it ceases to matter, Wray comes out with the truth.

Wonder how many other important truths Wray is sitting on because it isn’t politically expedient to be honest right now.

    1. Long after it ceases to matter, Wray comes out with the truth.

Much like Russia!, Wray is is the one assigned the task of rewriting history. By October of 2024 The “Official” history will show absolutely no conflict ever existed about the origin of covid. And yes, 80% of the people getting information from the liberal media will be none the wiser.

    2. The truth? All he said was what the DOE said. It’s most likely it came from a lab. It’s still not definitive. They still don’t know.

          1. “pedantry”

“Pedanty” works, too — as in: “An assembly or clique of pedants”

      1. By far, the most likely suspect is the Wuhan Lab, with other choices so far behind that saying the Wuhan Lab leaked can be considered true.

      2. “Mostly likely” is sufficient in a civil case where the burden of proof is a mere preponderance, i.e., “mostly likely,” to win millions of dollars. If “mostly likely” is sufficient in a civil case to win, then it is sufficient to say it came from a lab leak. You’re doing a poor imitation of Bill Clinton and the meaning of the word “is.”

Based on your repeated misquotes of the law and facts in the East Palestine train wreck article you have no credibility, assuming you ever had any. If you were a lawyer and did that in court you wouldn’t be a lawyer for long. Even if you were to escape losing your license, no judge would ever accept what you said as being correct.

        1. Immorality and dishonesty are the cause for Svelaz’s misquotes of the law and facts. Don’t assume error to be the most frequent cause.

      3. “It’s still not definitive.”

What would you accept as “definitive?” From a biolab in a dictatorship.

  16. How convenient the FBI’s “most likely” comment surfaced just when the administration is looking for a justification to pivot from Ukraine to China. Biden will “pull an Afghanistan” in Ukraine because both parties want to get on to the business of ginning up a war with China. Adios Zelensky — you’re on your own, and if the Russians don’t get you, the Nazis will. Recall Henry Kissinger’s immortal words: To be an enemy of America is dangerous, but to be a friend is fatal.

    1. @GioCon

I’ve had similar thoughts. The sheer laissez faire attitude toward this stuff should probably tell us that we are dealing with people that think we (the ‘underclass’) are less than scum to them, globally.

    2. @Gio,

Sorry, no. Biden isn’t going to pull out of Ukraine. He’s compromised by his past actions along w Hunter.
Some say that FTX was a way to launder funds sent to Ukraine back to Dem politicians. (Allegedly)
Just need to follow the money which you can do w Crypto currencies.

But as to the pivot on China? No. Again Biden is compromised.
He has cemented his place as the worst POTUS in the history of this country.
He has set back foreign policy almost 100yrs.

      -G

      1. @Ian via Gio

I think so too. The Ukraine stuff is about something else altogether IMO, and goes a lot further back than the current situation. that our current administration is basically using our entire federal government to grease the wheels of their own personal dealings – I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again: Al Capone would absolutely blush. We have thugs in the white House, top to bottom, period; TOP to BOTTOM. All of them in the current administration, period. Every single word out of their mouths since inauguration is a lie. Every. Single. One. This has been trickling for a long time; it was codified under Obama. 2008 is when our Republic officially became a tool. do not belief his affability. Behind closed doors, he and his cohort are creating all of this for us. it pains me to see otherwise intelligent people to still be buying this s***, because they are too privileged and without awareness to see or care that it is not the case for so many other people. Again, folks: our annual expenses, without adding a single thing, have gone up $10,000 + per year. That is not feasible for anyone, and I can tell you we talk to people all the time that feel the same way. We live in a truly purple country. Every force out there is trying to make you believe that is not the case. They do not want us to get along and conceive of innovative solutions to our problems. Let us pray we do not have modern day French Revolution beheadings of the elite, because we are getting close, and they do not want you to know that, not even a little bit. What is happening in Europe may as well be WWII: the sequel.
