Florida Senator Raises Alarm Over Animal Husbandry

s039When I worked as the constitutional consultant for the Florida House of Representatives, I was told a story about a certain Senator who threatened to call “General Revenue” as a witness after being told that “general revenue will not allow this appropriation.” Now, Senator Larcenia Bullard (D.-Miami) has topped that story by expressing alarm that women were marrying animals when “animal husbandry” was raised in legislation.

Federal Judge Chastises Harvard Professor Charles Nesson For Effort to Hold Deposition In a Classroom

gertner_nancynesson-04Harvard Law School professor Charles Nesson was the subject of a judicial rebuke from United States District Court judge Nancy Gertner over his request to hold a deposition before a live law school audience in a classroom. Nesson is a respected academic and founder of Harvard’s Berkman Center for Internet & Society. He has tried to incorporate his pro bono representation in a file-sharing case into teaching in novel ways.

Raphael Golb, 49, is accused of impersonating a rival of his father, Norman Golb, a leading expert on the Dead Sea Scrolls and University of Chicago professor. Norman Golb (left) is the author of “Who Wrote the Dead Sea Scrolls?” and is a rival of NYU Professor Lawrence Schiffman (right).

Professors Smith and Wessen: South Carolina Student Arrested After Discharging Gun in Class

Professor Calls Police After Student Gives Presentation on Gun Rights

200px-ccsu2Professor Paula Anderson has a curious approach to controversial topics. Some of us encourage students to taken controversial positions to generate passionate class debate. Professor Anderson, according to critics, calls the police. She is accused of calling police on her student John Wahlberg at the Central Connecticut States University after he and two fellow students argued in favor of allowing students and teachers to carry weapons on campus, citing the tragedy at Virginia Tech. Other faculty members have defended her and suggested that there is more to this story.

Will Justice Seek John Yoo’s Disbarment?

180px-john-yooThere is growing speculation that the Office of Professional Responsibility will recommend the disbarment of Professor John Yoo who currently teaches at Berkeley law school. The release of new memoranda from the Justice Department has increased calls for disciplinary action. The memoranda concludes that the President can (1) use military forces domestically to deal with any individuals President Bush considers a terrorist threat, (2) suspend free press and free speech rights, (3) arrest citizens without legal process or access to the courts, and (4) a variety of other tyrannical measures. I discussed the memoranda on this segment of Countdown.

Florida Professor and Wife Accused of Defrauding NASA

anghaieUniversity of Florida professor Samim Anghaie, 59, and his wife, Sousan Anghaie, 55, have been accused of defrauding NASA and taking roughly $600,000 for personal use. The Iranian-born Anghaise is the Director of the Innovative Nuclear Space Power and Propulsion Institute at the University of Florida while his wife is president of New Era Technology Inc. (NETECH) in Gainesville, Fla.

C is for Contingency: Wisconsin Parents Sue Over Time-Out Given Middle School Student

slideshow5859_1Brookfield, Wisconsin attorney William Rettko has filed a $50,000 calim against the Greenfield Middle School for false imprisonment and battery after giving a girl a “time out.” The lawsuit claims that the teacher allowed other students to commit battery on the girl during the time-out.

New York State Supreme Court Justice and Law Professor Lose Jobs in Scandal

up-p293m41hlko8mnamA bizarre case in New York has snared the careers of New York State Supreme Court Joseph G. Makowski, 55, and former prosecutor and Buffalo Law School professor Anne E. Adams. Adams pleaded guilty to three misdemeanors: drunken driving, offering a false instrument for filing and attempted tampering with physical evidence. Makowski resigned on the same day that Adams was fired by the law school. Makowski was accused of falsely attesting that Adams was not drunk when she left a bar.

Separate But Equal: Massachusetts Moves Toward Segregated Math Classes

chct rege.JPGMassachusetts has joined the movement toward re-segregating our public schools by race or gender or sexual orientation. Superintendent Richard W. Rege Jr. in Chicopee is reportedly in favor of a new proposal to segregate students by gender for math classes. It is part of a trend that threatens the advances that we have made in the last six decades in desegregating our school system. Now, there will be “girl math” and “boy math” classes.

Well, You’re Extinct Now: Bird, Once Believed Extinct, Is Captured, Photographed . . . And Then Eaten
