This week we already saw an Obedient Wives’ Club calling for women to service their husbands like “high-priced prostitutes” to fulfill their duties under the Koran (Qu’ran). Now, Kuwaiti politician Salwa al Mutairi has called for the use of sex slaves, or Jawari, to satisfy the needs of “decent, devout and virile Kuwaiti men” and discourage adultery.

Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah has issued a decree to ban men working in lingerie shops. Saudi clerics previously opposed women working in lingerie shops and even issued a fatwa banning such jobs.

The French Government has been widely ridiculed over its fruitless efforts to ban common English words from being uttered in the country to protect French culture. Now, the French government has taken a break from the disastrous economy and various wars to ban the use of Twitter and Facebook on television or radio. It appears that the French experience with the Maginot Line has been forgotten.
While Donald Trump is now saying that he might still run for president, he might want to keep one case off his campaign resume. In Scotland, Trump is bullying a Scottish couple who have had the temerity to refuse to surrender their home to his development. Trump is reportedly not only seeking governmental order to acquire the land but he encircled the home with a fence and then charged the couple with half of its cost — hitting David Milne, 46, and his wife Moira with a bill for £2820 for a fence they do not want.

In Malaysian, sharia law already strips women of many of the most basic protections in society. However, the Obedient Wives’ Club is creating chapters around the country to remind women that if they are beaten or abandoned, it is really their fault. Indeed, vice-president Dr Rohaya Mohamad has publicly told women that it is their duty to service their husbands like “a first-class prostitute.” It is just another insight into the plight of women in some of these Sharia-based systems.

We have been following cases of police detaining or arresting people who either photograph them or photograph public scenes in this country and other countries like England. The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) has been repeated criticized for stopping citizens engaged in entirely lawful photography. The latest such victim is Christopher Fussell who kept the camera running (below) during the confrontation where officers displayed a complete lack of knowledge of the existing laws — and rights of citizens.

There is a bizarre case in Italy where Italian prosecutors have charged the country’s top seismologist with manslaughter for failing to predict a natural disaster that struck Italy in 2009. The massive earthquake killed 308 people and they blame Enzo Boschi, the president of Italy’s National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology. Six other scientists and technicians are also charged.

One of the most senior figures in Australia’s Church of Scientology has been criminally charged in a case of sexual abuse. Jan Eastgate is accused of encouraging a young girl to lie and deny allegations of sexual abuse in the church. In the meantime, another leading Church figure, Tom Cruse, is being sued in an action unconnected to the cases in Australia by ex-Scientologist, Peter Letterese, for $250 million under a RICO claim that includes allegations of bribing a judge.

There was a refreshing moment of truthful clarity last week from Saudi Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal during an interview on “CNN’s Fareed Zakaria GPS.” Prince Talal admitted that the Saudis want to lower oil prices to avoid moves toward other energy sources and away from oil. It is the same principle upon which drug dealers offer cut-rate narcotics to keep the addiction going for their customers.
A British author Alan Shadrake, 76, is the latest victim of a worldwide trend of attacks on free speech. Shadrake wrote a book entitled Once a Jolly Hangman: Singapore’s Justice in the Dock detailing the inequities and unfairness of the Singapore justice system. The response of Singapore’s courts was to convict Shadrake and throw him in jail for contempt. The abusive case should be a rallying point for civil libertarians around the world, not to mention any Singaporeans who value free speech and the rule of law. The Singapore government compounded the abuse by banning the book.
