Who says no one will read your college or university thesis? Robert F. McDonnell, Republican candidate for Governor in Virginia, is now wishing that he had chosen a simple paper on the life and times of Thomas Jefferson. Instead, as a masters student at Regents University, he wrote a thesis against government policies favoring “cohabitators, homosexuals or fornicators.” He also denounced as “illogical” a 1972 Supreme Court decision legalizing the use of contraception by unmarried couples.

Former Miss California Carrie Prejean, 22, has sued Miss California USA for libel, public disclosure of private facts, religious discrimination, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and negligent infliction of emotional distress stemming from the controversy over her position on gay marriage. She was stripped of her title earlier this year, but the officials insist it was due to her breaking her contract and failing to perform her duties as Miss California, including the missing of appearances. The complaint also named Miss California USA officials Keith Lewis and Shanna Moakler and publicist Roger Neal.

Evolution in Sedalia, Missouri appears to be moving in reverse. The band leaders of the Smith-Cotton High School Tiger Pride Marching Band thought that they had a cute idea in showing the images of monkeys evolving into band members under the words “Brass Evolutions 2009.” Parents and teachers objected that evolution (a scientific theory) was advancing a “religious” viewpoint. Amazingly, the school agreed and ordered the t-shirts turned in by the students.
Pastor Steven Anderson has used his position at Faithful World Baptist Church, in Tempe, Arizona to bring just a little more hate into the world. Pastor Anderson is praying for the death of President Obama and an eternity in hell.

Parents of the Dove World Outreach Center recently sent their children to local public schools with their own messages of faith: t-shirts that read “ISLAM IS OF THE DEVIL.” They then protested after school officials sent their children home and are threatening possible legal action. Parent Wayne Sapp insists the problem is runaway tolerance. The rise of the Sapps and others lacks either a constitutional or moral basis for objection to the school policy.

Raneen Albaghdady, a Muslim in Detroit, is suing ayne Circuit Judge J. William Callahan who told her to remove her hijab or scarf in his courtroom (like the one shown to the left of a different woman). She alleges denial of her freedom of religion as well as denial of access to the courts. She is also suing Wayne County.

The morals police in Saudi Arabia has directed their attention toward the latest conspiracy to corrupt the youth and undermine Islam: summer festivals. The religious police have declared that these festivals improperly encourage the mixing of men and women and involve such evil acts as dancing and magic shows.

If I recall correctly from my high school preparatory seminary, there are venial sinners and mortal sinners, but we might have to find a third category for Aurelio Vallerillo-Sanchez, 39. He was convicted of stealing a 300-year-old painting of the Virgin Mary to pay for an abortion for a teenage girl whom he is accused of raping. That should cover the bases for a one-way ticket to the hot zone.
MP Jim Fitzpatrick is under fire by the large Muslim population in East London after he and his wife left a wedding party when they were told that it was segregated by gender due to the Islamic faith of the couple. Tory candidate Tim Archer attacked Fitzpatrick, saying that he “is playing a certain race card to save his skin at the next election.”
