When You Care Enough to Send the Very Best Complaint: Conservatives Launch Protest Against Same-Sex Hallmark Cards

The American Family Association has launched a crusade against Hallmark Greeting Cards for its decision to introduce a series of cards for same-sex couples. The AFA wants to start with a write-in campaign.

Last year, Hallmark started offering “coming out” cards and the company will now offer four designs of same-sex marriage cards.

In light of AFA’s campaign, Hallmark should now issue a line of cards for ticked off evangelicals and and religious right voters like “Here wishing that you were not a godless, Satan-driven card company” card.

    Let’s just throw those pesky 10 Commandments away or make them more relevant to today.

    For sure if we make those pesky commandments more relevant to today, the world can say that all those things that Christ was teaching is more in line with the abortionist liberals, communists, socialists, and those that want to live their lives in a manner that almost any church in America would call depraved than anything our fathers, or our father’s fathers grew up with.

    Lets forget the wisdom of our ancestry and strike off in a new direction of ………what…………if it feels good do it……

    When did the teachings of Jesus change to equate with the teaching of hate? What continues to gall me is how self-described “Christians” are so little like the Christ I learned about in Sunday School.

    A strange singling out explained

    Barack Obama’s recent comment about Justice Thomas — that he would not have nominated Thomas for the Supreme Court due to Thomas’ “inexperience” — coupled with Obama’s selection of Joe Biden as his running mate, provide a painful reminder of the judicial confirmation wars of the past 20 plus years. I wrote about Biden’s central (and disgraceful) role in these wars here. I wondered why Thomas is singled out for having been inexperienced at the time of his nomination here.

    The latter post brought this response from a reader:

    The answer is this: liberals like Mr. Obama simply cannot fathom how a black person could hold seriously thought-out views about jurisprudence like those of Clarence Thomas. And there is something too crass about attacking Justice Thomas’ jurisprudence on the merits, as well as too time-consuming.
    Liberals deem it too crass because they like to pretend that their objections are unrelated to politics, perhaps out of a concern that conservatives will apply the same approach to liberal judicial nominees when the tables are turned. So they find other reasons: Bork is too smart and doesn’t understand the “common man;” and Thomas is too dumb. But the Thomas-as-too-dumb view is too crass also, so the easy thing to do is say he was “unqualified” or too inexperienced.

    Substantive critiques of Justice Thomas’ jurisprudence are too time-consuming because people like Mr. Obama don’t want to read, much less engage, his opinions. Note that criticisms of Justice Thomas never cite any examples of actual opinions he’s written. Obama certainly failed to do so at the Saddleback forum.

    Ultimately, the theme continues for liberals: “self-hating” minorities who deviate from liberal orthodoxy are attacked because liberals view them as turn-coats. For more recent examples, see the treatment Miguel Estrada and Janice Rogers Brown received when the president nominated them to the D.C. Circuit, while the white guy, John Rodgers, sailed through to confirmation. And, recall Justice Thomas’ words:

    “This is not an opportunity to talk about difficult matters privately or in a closed environment. This is a circus. It’s a national disgrace. And from my standpoint, as a black American, it is a high-tech lynching for uppity blacks who in any way deign to think for themselves, to do for themselves, to have different ideas, and it is a message that unless you kowtow to an old order, this is what will happen to you. You will be lynched, destroyed, caricatured by a committee of the U.S. Senate rather than hung from a tree.”

    The “old order” is liberalism. Mr. Obama’s cheap shot against Justice Thomas, which would be applauded in Cambridge and Hyde Park, is the most recent example of the stereotypical left-wing effort to keep minorities on the plantation.

    CNN poll: Post-Biden poll shows dead heat

    DENVER, Colorado (CNN) — It’s a dead heat in the race for the White House. The first national poll conducted entirely after Barack Obama publicly named Joe Biden as his running mate suggests that battle for the presidency between the Illinois senator and Republican rival John McCain is all tied up.

    In a new CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll out Sunday night, 47 percent of those questioned are backing Obama with an equal amount supporting the Arizona senator.

    “This looks like a step backward for Obama, who had a 51 to 44 percent advantage last month,” says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland.

    “Even last week, just before his choice of Joe Biden as his running mate became known, most polls tended to show Obama with a single-digit advantage over McCain,” adds Holland.

    So what’s the difference now?

    It may be supporters of Hillary Clinton, who still would prefer the Senator from New York as the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee. It could be just America tired of the politics of lectures of change followed by the selection of old Washington as Vice President.

    Just 56 percent of Clinton supporters, registered Democrats who want Clinton as the nominee, are now backing Obama. That’s down from 75 percent in the end of June. Thirty-two percent of them now say they’ll support McCain, up from 16 percent in late June.

  8. Wrong Martha. My parents were both quite conservative. They voted Republican all their lives. They believed in Nixon until the bitter end. They attended a christian church until they died. It is because of them that I understand completely, both good and evil are not dependent on belonging to any group. So not only is your personal attack completely wrong, even if it were true, it does not answer any of the points I made.

Did you know that children have been beaten and raped by their own heterosexual parents throughout recorded history? In the bible a heterosexual father puts his daughter out of their home to be raped and killed by a mob of men in order to protect the strangers he took in. Is there anything even remotely loving about sending your daughter out to be raped and killed by a mob of men? I think it is important for children to be loved, honored, nutured and to allow them to have fun. Forcing them to hate whole groups of people does none of this. It is a desecration of a child’s spirit and mind. I believe you are confused about “deviance” by which you apparently mean homosexuality and child cruelty. Homosexuality has no intrinsic link with child cruelty, although homosexual parents may be cruel, just as heterosexual parents can be.

    Furthermore pornography is both heterosexual and homosexual. Again, there is no intrisic link to homosexuality and porn any more than there is an intrinsic link to heterosexuality. Destructive “norms” of heterosexuality and homosexuality are foisted on children today. This isn’t the fault of homosexuals. Children can’t be protected from this by parents who raise children to fear their own sexuality and keep them ignorant about sex and other aspects of knowledge about the world. It is countered only by parents who are themselves strong and loving and who give their children love so they may also be strong.

    Telling children lies about the world and treating them harshly doesn’t keep children safe. I pity the kids of parents who don’t have the parenting skills to control what their kids see and hear, and who have such bad relationships with their kids that they don’t trust them to be honest about their behavior away from home. The lamest of parents blame society instead of their own lack of parenting skills.

    And, ironically, some of them even require the help of the government to limit what their kids see, suggesting, hilariously, that it takes a village.

    Since the late 1960’s parents have lost this control and look at the sick society we have now. Many of our so called adults act and behave like the raflaws here (totally spoiled and self absorbed and blaming their flaws on those that have tried to keep society more civil).

    Our 10 to 18 year old kids are exposed to hard core pornography at the click of a mouse with almost no ability of parents to control it.

    I will not go away and your attempt at an argument is weak. The Good old days that you refer to ended in 2001 when George W. and his radical end of timers were appointed to the White House. The good old days ended when that good Christian Goerge W. Bush ordered our CIA to torture prisoners. The first one that was ordered tortured was the so-called American Taliban. The good old days ended when George W. and his runaway OLC wrote memos to authorize the demise of the good old days and hid them from everyone, even Congress because the work product was so bad and sophmoric, that they knew it wouldn’t hold water if actually reviewed. The good old days ended when George W. Bush violated Federal law by ordering wiretapping in direct violation of FISA. The good old days ended when George W. decided to stay on vacation instead of actually responding to the high level terrorist threats in August of 2001. The good old days ended when George W. decided to politicize the Justice Department.
    I could go on marthh, but I don’t want to inject too much reality into your Pollyanna world. By the way, even in the good old days, private lives were kept private and were not the business of the government or a vocal minority.

    Neither holds water. Most of America just wants to return to the good old days when people stopped shoving their personal sexual habits into our kid’s faces all day long. That is all we want. Some respect for the right of our kids to lead even somewhat normal lives in this day and age and I do mean NORMAL as in not having garbage shoved in your face at school, at work, on television, at any public function, and now even attempts at forcing it on us in our places of worship.

I advise Martha h to check the number of neocon Republicans who have protested against gay issues and even wrote legislation against gays and turned out to be gay. Even she might be surprised at the number. And that is not even counting Sen. Larry “I am not Gay” Craig.
