Tourist Beaten, Robbed and Stripped Naked In Baltimore As Crowd Laughes

A video has emerged from last St. Patrick’s Day that shows a brutal attack on a tourist in Baltimore who is beaten, robbed, and stripped naked as a crowd stands around and laughs. No one reportedly called police and someone stood filming the scene of utter inhuman and depraved conduct by the crowd. [Update: A second video of the brutal attack has emerged]

On the video, the tourist is largely passive when he walks a few feet toward a man, who proceeds to hit him in the face and causing the victim to hit the ground with considerable force. The man appears dazed as people proceed to beat him and steal his clothes and belongings. The tourist is stripped of his car keys, watch, money and iPhone.

Until the video was released, the man never knew what happened. He woke up at his hotel with cuts and bruises and no memory of the horrific attack.

Obviously, the place to start is the person who thought this was a funny scene and posted the video on YouTube. Then there are the people who brag and laugh about the attack on the video.

While the victim appears white and his attackers black, there has been no suggestion that the attack was a hate crime or racially motivated. There has also been relatively little outrage nationally about this attack.

I count at least a dozen separate crimes on the film from repeated assaults to robbery by at least seven different people. Some, upon seeing the man in a helpless state, immediately walk over to strip him of any valuables rather than offer assistance or call the police. It is the lack of humanity shown in the film that makes these people so dangerous to society — they show no feelings or sympathy for the victim who is merely an object to be taunted and abused.

  1. >Chris McCauley – you ignore things too, like how the guy that threw the >first punch showed off for the camera first. This is common in these types >of videos, especially the ones I’ve seen on World Star Hip Hop, where this >video was first uploaded.

Throwing the first punch does not define who the aggressor is. Approaching someone in a threatening manner with intent to commit a violent act is assault. Look up the legal definition of assault.

The man in the video wearing the green shirt assaulted the other man by aggressively advancing at him at a fast pace. The man defended himself by punching the aggressor.

A lot of people think a violent confrontation starts when someone “throws the first punch” or that the person who “throws the first punch” is culpable legally. That is not true.

If you advance towards me with intent to physically harm me, I have every right to defend myself with force, which is what happened.

    >The other fact you ignore is the fact that the victim IS, in fact, a tourist. >Police have said as much. Unless Arlington, VA is part of Baltimore now, >he’s a tourist. Whether he’s drinking for St. Patrick’s Day or not, he would >be a tourist… That’s kinda what the word means.

He was not a “tourist”. People in the DC/Baltimore area go all over to drink. Arlington is only an hour from Baltimore. He simply commuted there, he was not a tourist. I live near DC and go to Baltimore all the time because the prices are cheaper there.

He wasn’t some innocent Tourist who had no idea what was going on. He drove over to Baltimore to party. He acted like an idiot, committed an assault, and got punched out.

As far as taking off his clothes and stealing his ipod, of course those are crimes that can’t be justified.

  2. Wow there’s an awful lot of dogwhistles being blown right now. Giving some people the benefit of the doubt, can I just ask that we give a little thought to the context and drop the animal comparisons?

There’s plenty of other ways to condem violence, and that language is pretty charged. There’s enough biogotry here by people who mean it.

  3. blacks attacking white?Gee,You wont see this all over your tv screen.Let the media be held accountable when the race war starts

  4. Chris McCauley – you ignore things too, like how the guy that threw the first punch showed off for the camera first. This is common in these types of videos, especially the ones I’ve seen on World Star Hip Hop, where this video was first uploaded.

The other fact you ignore is the fact that the victim IS, in fact, a tourist. Police have said as much. Unless Arlington, VA is part of Baltimore now, he’s a tourist. Whether he’s drinking for St. Patrick’s Day or not, he would be a tourist… That’s kinda what the word means.

But hey, make apologies for the apish behavior of assholes that assault random passerby.

  5. Mr. Turley,

You seem to not have mentioned several things in the video. First of all, everyone in the video is intoxicated and partying. The person who got punched is not a “tourist”. He’s someone out partying on St. Patrick’s day in Baltimore. Did you miss at the beginning of the video where he is humping a woman on film? This is not some innocent bystander, it’s an individual engaged in obviously inappropriate behavior. When another person grabs his wrist as he is humping her, he gets offended. He advances on the person who touched him so as to commit violence (assault). In response to this assault the person punches him in the face.

Because the person who got punched tried to commit violence and the other person successfully defended themselves, the rest of the crowd was angry at him for trying to intimidate people in the crowd and he got his comeuppance. The reason the “victim” didn’t realize that he was assaulted at all is likely because he was drunk as a loon and doesn’t remember anything.

The reason this kind of thing doesn’t make national news is that people humping one another in the streets, acting tough, getting punched and then getting made fun of is par for the course in Baltimore on St. Patty’s Day. No one cares and it’s just another case of partying too hard.

I find your characterization of him as a “simple tourist” as laughable. He’s a drunken asshole who got a comeuppance.

Should they have stripped him naked and stolen his belongings? No, those are both crimes. But to claim he is innocent in all this when he was acting like he was is patently ridiculous.

  6. The race war is coming. This example of black behavior is being replicated in every major urban center in the United States. Not just Baltimore, but Minneapolis, Chicago, etc. Conceal and carry, stand your ground, feel lucky punk! Trayvon Martin is Tawana Brawley 25 years later. Black America is in the midst of a cultural holocaust and this video exemplifies the failure of black culture. By the way, did you notice how many members of the Kentucky Wildcats flashed Bloods gang signs as they were introduced before the NCAA men’s basketball championship game. If something does not change dramaticlly in mainstream urban black culture, we are staring down the barrel of a racial Kristallnacht. Over and out.

  7. As “Houston” pointed out, this is not at all like the Martin case.

If you feel the need to compare them then you are only exposing yourself as a racist. What happened in Florida was very wrong. You should be able to acknowledge that without looking for instances of black on white violence to somehow justify it.

  8. Jude / DHM – WorldStarHipHop provides a huge audience for videos glorifying all kinds of street fights, like this one or this compilation – both from just the last week. I am not sure how they collect so many or what the site is really trying to accomplish, but there are thousands there.

    Mike,
I want to echo your statement about poverty and overcrowding and their impact on the degree of violence.”

It was my point he was echoing, made earlier up the thread and repeated for him to reap some praise. Those who got too little earlier in life need every drop. Feeling deprived now.

Wish you could read more carefully.

  10. Many dead are statistics. One can become your brother.

We have words for this: putting a face on the tragedy, for example Another is this Pulitzer Prize winner: http://www.pulitzer.org/archives/6809
which provides a full story which illustrates what we would never have known otherwise.

So I like the jewish saying, which can not find just now, but you all have heard it. And the custom of placing a stone on the grave.

We all need such reminders that we are our brother’s keeper.
And whither he travels, so shall we.

  11. Mike,
I want to echo your statement about poverty and overcrowding and their impact on the degree of violence.

  12. MikeS,
Baker’s book will provide a clearer picture of what we have to fight.
The herculean task of cleaning the stables remain with us.

PS The irony of the bipartisanship of Brown Brothers Harriman, with the Harriman brothers splitting their energies between the parties was obvious.

  13. EnioBob,
thanks for the link. how sad it made me. how an animal like the attacker could be out of prison makes me wonder. An old man, that’s all 3 young ones dared attack.

No scapegoats, just us all, who let it happen, didn’t fight enough against the control of our nation.
    .
Russ Baker’s book about Bush and Co. cites FDR who said that the nation’s government had been in the hands of finance since the time of Andrew Jackson. So we’ll see if the book offers any solutions. One seems not to have been found by the people so far.

  14. DHMCarver,
Have you not understood my internat novice that posting scenes of HUMILIATION is all the rage on the net. In ancient times I think we called it “get your jollies”. Do you know the name is now?
Tastes best when you’re nursing some hurt that won’t heal.
Which seems to encompass everybody today. Agreed?

So who do you dream of humiliating groupwise?

  15. Woosty,
The chick was just a whore who slapped on the necessary to come out to see if there was any loose change rolling her way.

I’m still pumping mine that says when you crowd animals, they usually fight all the time.
