Given the story today about the poaching of elephants, this video on Reddit caught my eye. It part of a show called Under Wild Skies What is this shit? For some reason, NBC Sports Network has been airing an NRA-sponsored hunting show called Under Wild Skies, which apparently airs on NBC. This video shows a lobbyist named Tony Makris shooting an elephant in the face. I am surprised to see NBC airing the scene. It shows that, while one cannot swear on television or show certain types of intimate scenes, you can still shoot a elephant in the face. [WARNING The video contains graphic and disturbing images]
I am also confused why this is so impressive. The elephant is standing there and you shoot it at close quarters in the face with a powerful weapon. The elephant however does not die after two shots but lingers in pain before it is finally put down. The episode ends with celebration with what appears to be champagne.
The program identifies Makris as a lobbyist. Some stories identify him as an NRA lobbyist. Other stories describe the show as “sponsored by the NRA.
The episode is filmed in the Botswana wilderness where he is led to around 20 feet from an elephant. While the number of elephants continue to fall in the country, a ban on trophy hunting will not kick in until 2014. That leaves people like Makris rushing to kill elephants while they still can.
I know the face shot mentioned might seem upsetting but shooting the elephant with a very powerful rifle (.577 Trex) there is usually going to put it down the easiest. The target area, as described in the video if it succeeds in hitting the brain generally produces instantaneous death. Shooting an animal of this size in the body protracts the suffering, even if the heart is taken out the animal can run for a while before collapsing and dying.
I’m not making a judgement as to whether hunting is to be approved or not, I don’t hunt presently but have in the past and it is a way of life in many parts of the world.
Oky1,
“**This is not the wild west anymore or revolutionary times. **
I’ve posted plenty of links here on this blog that disprove completely that point.”
Mmmm…no, you haven’t disproved that, completely, or otherwise.
We murdered, starved, and germ-warfared most of the Native Americans. Slaughtered almost all the buffalo. The west ain’t very wild, no more. Maybe on a Saturday night.
There was no intent to have a standing army, when the Constitution was written, hence the “A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state” introductory clause (the one most everyone pretends doesn’t exist) to the 2nd amendment
Now, due to our imperialism and paranoia, we have an enormous, bloated armed force, which completely renders “revolution” impotent.
So much for the silly “intent of the founding fathers” discussion.
You know, you could just talk about the fool shooting the elephant in the face, without deliberately stepping in the 2nd amendment cow-pie.
Really, neither I or Obama are likely to come down the chimneys of every house in the U.S.A. on Xmas eve, and take all your guns.
Please remove your boots before entering the house.

OKY I don’t think anyone is anti 2nd amendment. They are for sensible gun regulation. This is not the wild west anymore or revolutionary times. Many of us feel that the amendment refers to militia. It is a legitimate debate and not crap but what a democracy is about, intelligent (and sometimes not so intelligent) debate. **
I understand your position & can respectfully disagree with some of your points.
There are plenty of DC polecats/Banker puppets that can’t wait to completely get rid of All of the “Bill of Rights” including the 2nd amd.
IE: Obama, Kerry, Fienstein, etc. see the above post: Kerry to Sign Obama’s UN Gun Ban (whatever they called it their intent is clear to me)
**This is not the wild west anymore or revolutionary times. **
I’ve posted plenty of links here on this blog that disprove completely that point.
Been to the Gun Free zone of Chiraq/Chicago lately?
As far as the debate goes it finished for now about April 16, 2013 in Congress.
Yet the DC polecats like Obama are continuing using this issue to attempt to hold together some sort of a coalition of supporters/voters as he & his buds political collapse from their own corruption.
**They are for sensible gun regulation.**
There are more “Sensible Gun Regs” on the books then are need already!
But we are all entitled to keep our opinions as each of us see fit.
Hunt Life – “Buckshot” – Episode 1
I didn’t look at the video. I already know about the NRA, and about killing relatively defenseless animals to prove manhood. If you have to prove it, it ain’t there. I can’t strangle the tough guy with the rifle, so no use getting angry.
Killing a charging lion with a rifle, is somewhat akin to invading Iraq, then shooting insurgents in “self-defense.”
Or killing an unarmed kid, whom you threatened, in “self-defense.”
See what I did there? Tied our over-the-top belligerent “foreign policy” to our blood-lust “culture.”
Wasn’t hard to do. They’re one-and-the-same. Civilized nations recognize the U.S.A. as a nation of homicidal maniacs.
You think that’s funny? Look in the mirror.
“I’m fine with game management & the use of it for controlled hunting.”
As am I, Oky, but that’s responsible stewardship.
“It shows that, while one cannot swear on television or show certain types of intimate scenes, you can still shoot a elephant in the face.”
Great minds think alike? Miley Cyrus was quoted as making a similar comment about the show Breaking Bad.
Supposition, Randy.
And there is no good reason to kill an elephant unless it is a rogue and killing people. They are not only migratory, they serve important functions in the ecosystem like creating fertilizer and clearing brush to create habitat for other animals and reduce fire risks in dry seasons.
**(I am not a fan of hunting but if you use what you shoot, eating the venison for example) then at least you have not killed for naught) **
I do not like at all some of that type of so called sport hunting implied in the above video.
I don’t see any Sport in it.
And worst I hate Corporate battery farming of animals for meat.
How many people understand where their food comes from & what’s in it?
I’m fine with game management & the use of it for controlled hunting.
The story does not say what happens to the carcass after they butcher it. From what I have read, they normally donate the meat to the local villagers that the hunters cannot use. There are lots of damn good reasons for shooting elephants too besides hunting for trophies. That they shot an elephant with only one tusk says it was not just for trophy hunting.
Oops, now wordpress decided to to post all the repost attempts. 🙂 Oh well
***The Armageddon Looting Machine: The Looming Mass Destruction From Derivatives

Increased regulation and low interest rates are driving lending from the regulated commercial banking system into the unregulated shadow banking system. The shadow banks, although free of government regulation, are propped up by a hidden government guarantee in the form of safe harbor status under the 2005 Bankruptcy Reform Act pushed through by Wall Street. The result is to create perverse incentives for the financial system to self-destruct.
Five years after the financial collapse precipitated by the Lehman Brothers bankruptcy on September 15, 2008, the risk of another full-blown financial panic is still looming large, despite the Dodd-Frank legislation designed to contain it. As noted in a recent Reuters article, the risk has just moved into the shadows:
[B]anks are pulling back their balance sheets from the fringes of the credit markets, with more and more risk being driven to unregulated lenders that comprise the $60 trillion “shadow-banking” sector.
Increased regulation and low interest rates have made lending to homeowners and small businesses less attractive than before 2008. The easy subprime scams of yesteryear are no more. The void is being filled by the shadow banking system. Shadow banking comes in many forms, but the big money today is in repos and derivatives. The notional (or hypothetical) value of the derivatives market has been estimated to be as high as $1.2 quadrillion, or 20 times the GDP of all the countries of the world combined.
According to Hervé Hannoun, Deputy General Manager of the Bank for International Settlements, investment banks as well as commercial banks may conduct much of their business in the shadow banking system (SBS), although most are not generally classed as SBS institutions themselves. At least one financial regulatory expert has said that regulated banking organizations are the largest shadow banks. ***
1 more time I’ll attempt to post that lost post:
No expert can say when the next time the globalist banks fail, but I can assure you Ret. FRS chairman Pual Volcker understand very clearly the risk we face from this piece I’ll post next, separate this time.
It won’t be like the last time.

Bron, you may think these guys have big ones, but in fact they have small minds. These are the destroyers of everything nature has to offer. If it was up to them, they would be proud to kill the last lion, tiger, or elephant and call it an achievement.
Man is the cruelest animal.
― Friedrich Nietzsche
Bron,
Why not face down a charging lion with a sword and give the animal a fighting chance? I doubt Makris would feel so brave and manly in that type of situation. He’d probably pee his pants.
LeeJC,
I can’t say all, but many Native American Tribes seemed to have rational view in respect to animals & harvesting for survival.
They only use what they need.
But the globalist banking trash hates self subsistence people as they can’t control or profit from us.
That’s the real hidden agenda behind all the anti-2nd amd crap.
