We often discuss the disconnect of religious fanatics who rape or beat or kill women and girls in the name of morality. Often such abuses seems to be condoned by governments like Iran. However, after a series of acid attacks on women for not being properly veiled, the Iranian government is actually investigating and denouncing the attacks.
The government’s sympathy only go so far. Under the Sharia-based law in Iran, women must wear the loose fitting hijab that covers their heads and necks.
The attacks have occurred in Isfahan and General Hossein Ashtari has confirmed at least four acid attacks. Others say that there are at least 13 women chemically burned for being “badly veiled.” Other attacks have occurred in Pakistan, Afghanistan and India where the women are accused of “sullying” their family “honour” by committing “indecent” behaviour.
While the government has insisted that it will investigate, others have insisted that it must also punish women who are not sufficiently covered. Various women have adopted thin veiled or more shapely clothing to the outrage of religious Iranians. Iranian MPs have written to President Hassan Rouhani to demand that police increase enforcement of wearing of the veil. Once again, these legislators have little faith in convincing people to follow their Islamic values. Instead, they want to coerce them to comply to their values and call it a moral act.

Sqweeks,
Clobber away.
Nick – I have been out most of the afternoon. I have worked with battered women. I was also certified as a CASA worker and helped place children from untenable situations. What of it?
Squeeky – Thank you for your total lack of understanding that the “other side” might have valid arguments. I’ve seen you jump to many conclusions without the benefit of facts, but it’s okay for the conservativish side, I suppose.
I was right several weeks ago. I’m going back to infrequent posting. It’s too childish here, on both sides. The “sages” on the right are no better than the children on the left. They simply come off as more righteous, but that is a default position.
maxcat06 You posted this to Nick and I didn’t know if you were one of the engaging sockpuppets on here as I am a relatively new poster and Paul Schulte had ecpressed an aversion to secular humanists. I also found it humorous that Nick Spinelli found all rape victims to be uneducated smokers. Nice. Really nice. anyway, I thought I would share this post with you since you are an infrequent poster and everyone else on here is too erudite in their education to look at it

– This is for Squeeky and Elaine. Especially Squeeky and Elaine and everyone on this thread that ignored my evidence about St Louis Like Karen and New York. “Special Victims Unit” Oh I know, that’s a Liberal thing. is running a special right now about children boys and girls and men and women being abused and raped, 1/3 of the population. In the United States…….. 🙂 Now, I am a Classical Liberal and when I take Political tests I come up in the middle on Libertarian because my social conscience is Liberal and I am Fiscally Conservative. So. Enough about me…… I am extremely Moral. I left 3 marriages for being raped and sodomized and abused violently against my will. They all made me feel like nothing. Kind of uncivil like many people get you know on the Internet but in your face uncivil and Violent. Pornography does that. Say what you want. It does. But we have freedom of expression so express away.
Please tell me all about how it does not cause you to objectify your partners and it helps you become closer. Feel free. I am waiting.
I am still waiting. I refuse to go to maps and links on this I have already done it too many times and been ignored. Personal experience is enough.
The race card is boring and plebeian. 🙂
@DocMad
Well, for most of the liberalish crew here, you don’t get arguments that run from facts to conclusions. You get conclusions based on preconceived ideas that go on to ignore inconvenient facts.
IMO, the best way to handle that kind of stuff is to clobber them with facts, humor, and sarcasm, because reason isn’t what got them to that position in the first place. That may look like a lack of civility to some people, but it isn’t.

Some people would cut out their tongue before broadcasting their ‘good deeds’.
Some people feel it is necessary to broadcast their ‘good deeds’.

Sqweek,
I save my more serious writing for The Economist. Do we really need more serious comment on Professor Turley’s 500th post on Middle East savagery?
When he gets serious about something like the battle over abortion or contraception, or Voter ID, perhaps we’ll see more serious discussion.
Check out Darren and pete on Voter ID. People actually learned stuff. And nobody had any problem with civility – especially since some had gone to bed.
Squeek, Al Gore’s muse has been talkin’ crazy stuff about Ebola, ISIS, rape, etc. The best synopsis is a Daily Beast piece from last week[10/11]. It’s moonbat crazy talk. A feminist icon screws the pooch.

Squeeky,
I said nothing about the Bible Belt–so don’t go getting your knickers in a knot. Have a nice day!

I’ll take that as “no” from you all. None have done any volunteer work w/ raped or battered women. Thanks.
I discovered how to cure smallpox, the first antibiotic, and the polio vaccine. I also fostered 29 orphaned Inuit children, and gave my fortune to The Blessed Big Sisters of the Middle Class.
I pray for you all everyday.
@Elaine
Well, there’s goes your mind snapping shut. Because it is inconceivable to you that you could have been so wrong in your beliefs. Sooo, just keep repeating the Bible Belt stuff to yourself and ignore the race stuff. It will probably make you happier! Besides, atonement is such a drag.

The more snarky answers the more you confirm you’re all just elitist talkers. Well, some are just talkers.
docmadison,
What I’d really like is some Middle Earth red meat!
Squeeky and DBQ, Have you been reading the INSANE stuff the darling of these feminists, Naomi Wolf, has been saying? Menopause can hit some women real hard!
Chablis? Heaven forbid! We drink only Dom Perignon. And forget the brie, we prefer foie gras for an appetizer.
😉
@DocMad
Paul or whoever above was right that you do 95% snark and 5% argument. Anyway, yes, I am sure the KKK rode around with their torches and pitchforks, surrounding the homes of innocent blacks folks, hollering “You Old Bag!!!”

Olly.
Congratulations. You’ve figured out the script. Stay tuned for the next Middle East red meat in about a week or so.
