We often discuss the disconnect of religious fanatics who rape or beat or kill women and girls in the name of morality. Often such abuses seems to be condoned by governments like Iran. However, after a series of acid attacks on women for not being properly veiled, the Iranian government is actually investigating and denouncing the attacks.
The government’s sympathy only go so far. Under the Sharia-based law in Iran, women must wear the loose fitting hijab that covers their heads and necks.
The attacks have occurred in Isfahan and General Hossein Ashtari has confirmed at least four acid attacks. Others say that there are at least 13 women chemically burned for being “badly veiled.” Other attacks have occurred in Pakistan, Afghanistan and India where the women are accused of “sullying” their family “honour” by committing “indecent” behaviour.
While the government has insisted that it will investigate, others have insisted that it must also punish women who are not sufficiently covered. Various women have adopted thin veiled or more shapely clothing to the outrage of religious Iranians. Iranian MPs have written to President Hassan Rouhani to demand that police increase enforcement of wearing of the veil. Once again, these legislators have little faith in convincing people to follow their Islamic values. Instead, they want to coerce them to comply to their values and call it a moral act.

Here we go again!
Sure, Squeeky, sure!

Annie,
Make mine a triple: Oy! Oy! Oy!
I’m still waiting to hear from any of the old school feminists here if they have done any work @ rape crisis centers, battered women shelters, etc. Anyone, anyone? See, having worked w/ victims, I know they aren’t the type women the Chablis and brie crowd like to associate w/. They’re most often poor, poorly educated, SMOKERS, etc.! I have helped these women all my life both professionally, pro bono, etc. So, you’ll have to pardon my derision for you all just talking the talk. Too many talkers, not enough walkers.
I don’t do lots of volunteer work. But if you volunteer once in a while which I do, you make friends at the Family counseling center. You see, If you are empathic, people who are abused can sense you were and will talk to you. I give them my e mail and phone number. I am not a Feminist. I believe in God. I am a Presbyterian Deacon USA. A somewhat Progressive Church which Paul says doesn’t exist “like fairies”
happypappies – somewhat progressive is different than progressive. 🙂 And I stand behind my statement.
See the thing is, Sqweek, you’re not right.
Let’s compare your treatment of yesterday’s 90 year old black woman and the way Elaine, swarthmoremom and Annie treated her.
Now let’s ask a bunch of sixth graders which group behaved like hooded night riders.
happypappies,
I already posted a link to the Post and Courier investigative series earlier today.
Elaine, as you are new to the Blog, let me explain that I reposted your link as to start the conversation. I was defending your position as everyone else on here denys the fact that there is a problem with abuse in the United States. So, I am going to Cut and Paste my Answer again cause I don’t know if you read it – This is for Squeeky and Elaine. Especially Squeeky and Elaine and everyone on this thread that ignored my evidence about St Louis Like Karen and New York. “Special Victims Unit” Oh I know, that’s a Liberal thing. is running a special right now about children boys and girls and men and women being abused and raped, 1/3 of the population. In the United States…….. 🙂 Now, I am a Classical Liberal and when I take Political tests I come up in the middle on Libertarian because my social conscience is Liberal and I am Fiscally Conservative. So. Enough about me…… I am extremely Moral. I left 3 marriages for being raped and sodomized and abused violently against my will. They all made me feel like nothing. Kind of uncivil like many people get you know on the Internet but in your face uncivil and Violent. Pornography does that. Say what you want. It does. But we have freedom of expression so express away.
Please tell me all about how it does not cause you to objectify your partners and it helps you become closer. Feel free. I am waiting.
I am still waiting. I refuse to go to maps and links on this I have already done it too many times and been ignored. Personal experience is enough.
The race card is boring and plebeian. 🙂
::For a bunch of “educated” folks, you certainly are easily manipulated by the host. JT throws in his daily portion of fresh meat and when it’s gone, the same old arguments come out. The only unknown is how much incivility he will tolerate before he steps in.
@Elaine
Yes, the old Democrats were pretty bad. They were a bunch of race baiters and racists. Problem is, the new Democrats and their policies are worse vis a vis black people. Those of you with good consciences really ought to start examining your own policies and prejudices, because if I am right, then you are far worse than any hooded night riders. And as much as I disagree with you, I really don’t think that is where you wish to be.

Squeeky,
The Democrats were the party of the south at one time. I’ll give the party plenty of blame where blame is due. There were many racists and segregationists in the party ranks. Times have changed–and, fortunately, so has the Democratic party. That’s why the majority of African Americans/Black Americans are members of the Democratic party and not the Republican party today.
There’s a problem with his hair too. That’s why he has to keep it so closely cropped, doncha know?
I KNOW.!!! He’s going gray and it is thinning. Short and cropped disguises those thin patches.
🙂
You’re right, Paul.
Silly of me not to spend more time trying to convince the deluded of their craziness.
FWIW, here is another map, that I could not put above because of the wordpress link limitation:

So shall I put you down on the “let’s sterilize them” column or ‘let’s provide contraception” column?
Well, another thing I love is how the liberals love to point out that the South tends to be the Bible Belt, and therefore whatever happens south of the Mason-Dixon Line is Jesus’s fault or something. Funny how they miss what else the South is:

But, this fact doesn’t fit into the standard liberal doctrine and narrative. Plus, to start questioning the effects of race on some of these statistics might lead one to start blaming Democrats for some of their policies.

Elaine, Did you really mean to say that S. Carolina is where women get beaten as opposed to most northern states? That’s how I read your posts but perhaps I am reading them incorrectly?
I am personally unaware of any state that does not have violence against women, either in the North or the South. Are you?

You read my comments incorrectly.

Till Death Do Us Part
More than 300 women have been shot, stabbed, strangled, beaten, bludgeoned or burned to death by men in South Carolina over the past decade, dying at a rate of one every 12 days while the state does little to stem the carnage from domestic abuse.

Thanks for reinforcing my thoughts as to your motivation on asking about the President.
Paul, you can’t help yourself, can you? I used to think it was personal( me) but see you do it to Doc too.
po – I have nothing against you personally. I have problems with some of your arguments. docmadison doesn’t argue, he snarks.

doc, I didn’t say I misunderstood what you were saying, I asked you straight up what the skin color of Obama has to do with his being unfit to be president. I don’t care if you want to answer that question or not, just don’t mischaracterize what I wrote.
slohrse29, I liked that you called these actions crimes, straight up crimes. If throwing acid on a woman is not a crime, I don’t know what is. Thank you for speaking plainly.
The Black man in office has forced me to hate all Black men!
