2015 Already Set To Be Hottest On Record

290px-The_Sun_by_the_Atmospheric_Imaging_Assembly_of_NASA's_Solar_Dynamics_Observatory_-_20100819earth-screensaver_largeThe National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has released new data on global warming that, again, the data supports the over-whelming view of scientists that climate change is a dire reality. The world has experienced record-breaking hot weather every month in 2015 and the year is all but guaranteed to be the hottest on record.

According to NOAA, August was the warmest August ever recorded — with records going back to 1880. It was 1.58F above the 20th century average. Indeed, every month this year has been the hottest on record.

On its blog, NOAA stated “We estimate a 97% probability that 2015 will become the warmest year on record.”

The issue of global warming came up during the last Republican presidential debate.

  1. If the ice is on land and then enters the water, the sea level would most definitely rise. If the ice is already in the water and then melts the sea level would not rise. Try putting ice in a glass filled to the brim and then plop in several ice cubes, guess what happens.

    1. Inga – did you take physics?

If the ice is on land and then enters the water, the sea level would most definitely rise. If the ice is already in the water and then melts the sea level would not rise. Try putting ice in a glass filled to the brim and then plop in several ice cubes, guess what happens.

This statement of yours does not make sense.

  2. Just start with showing him explain how a melting ice cube in a glass of water doesn’t raise the level.

    @ Isaac

Do I misunderstand you? Are you saying that an ice cube made of water and floating in a glass of water WILL raise the level of the water in the glass?

Basically, this is not true and there are many variables to consider. Is the ice cube the same composition as the liquid….meaning frozen water not frozen alcohol or other substances. Frozen salt water in fresh water or frozen fresh water in salt water. Lots of variables.

    http://smithplanet.com/stuff/iceandwater.htm

    The water level remains the same when the ice cube melts. {This is physics 101}

A floating object displaces an amount of water equal to its own weight. Since water expands when it freezes, one ounce of frozen water has a larger volume than one ounce of liquid water. A completely submerged ice cube weighing one ounce, for example, displaces MORE than one ounce of liquid water. The cube will rise until the volume remaining under the surface displaces only one ounce of water.

OR are you saying that if you add an item of any mass: dirt, ice, lead, water, dead horses…. that the level of the original liquid will go up. Well…..duh….because there is more mass and volume.

If you are talking about what would happen if the ice on land (not already in the glass of water) would melt and some of it run into the ocean and other bodies of water. A glacier that melts doesn’t all, 100% go into the ocean.Much of it would percolate into the ground and replenish underground aquifers. How much? No one knows these amounts for certain or as facts.

Water vapor in the air is a huge HUGE amount. Up to 4% of the atmosphere The amount of water vapor ranges from a trace amount up to 4% of the mass of air.

Hot air can hold more water vapor than cold air, so the amount of water vapor is highest in hot, tropical areas and lowest in cold, polar regions. This is why a cold earth is much more dangerous than a warmer one in that the water vapor condenses and falls either as rain, raising water levels but more often as snow and ice which then causes the earth to become even colder and less “vaporous” (so to speak). This feedback cycle of cold, precipitation and more cold and more precipitation is the suspected cause of the ice ages and Snowball Earth.

Given the scope of the Earth’s climate changes over time, our itty bitty incandescent light bulbs and machines that people use to live are not going to cause us all to die. We are really not that important or powerful.

That big gaseous nuclear reactor that we call the Sun….is that powerful. And since we seem to be going into a Maunder Minimum….(no sunspots) we should be more worried about the next little (we hope) ice age.

  3. Climatologist Dr Richard Keen – Show Me The Data

Climatologist Dr Richard Alan Keen reveals the data and explains how the ‘mainstream climate modelers’ have got it wrong.

Later, Dr Keen is seen in Rome (April, 2015) straightening out the mislead Pope.

  4. From the:

    Global Warming Petition Project

Enclosed is a twelve-page review of the information subject of “global warming,” a petition in the form of a reply card, and return enevlope. Please consider these materials carefully.

The United States is very close to adopting an international agreement that would ration the use of energy and of technologies that depend upon coal, oil, and natural gas and some other organic compounds.

This treaty is, in our opinion, based upon flawed ideas. Research data on climate change do not show that human use of hydrocarbons is harmful. To the contrary there is good evidence that increased atmospheric carbon dioxide is environmentally helpful.

The proposed agreement would have very negative effects upon the technology of nations throughout the world, especially those that are currently attempting to lift from poverty and provide opportunities to the over 4 billion people in technologically underdeveloped countries.

It is especially important for America to hear from its citizens who have the training necessary to evaluate the relevant data and offer sound advise.

We urge you to sign and return the enclosed petition card. If you would like more cards for use by your colleagues, these will be sent.

    President Emeritus, Rockefeller University

    The Global Warming Petition project;
Started by Dr Art Robinson in response to the false alarm over CO2; Was signed by 31,487 scientists (in the USA alone); they all say that there is no cause for any alarm over our CO2 emissins.

“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.” ~ Joseph Goebbels

Unresolved issues with the assessment of multidecadal global land surface temperature trends

This paper documents various unresolved issues in using surface temperature trends as a metric for assessing global and regional climate change. A series of examples ranging from errors caused by temperature measurements at a monitoring station to the undocumented biases in the regionally and globally averaged time series are provided. The issues are poorly understood or documented and relate to micrometeorological impacts due to warm bias in nighttime minimum temperatures, poor siting of the instrumentation, effect of winds as well as surface atmospheric water vapor content on temperature trends,
the quantification of uncertainties in the homogenization of surface temperature data, and the influence of land use/land cover (LULC) change on surface temperature trends. Because of the issues presented in this paper related to the analysis of multidecadal surface temperature we recommend that greater, more complete documentation and quantification of these issues be required for all observation stations that are intended to be used in suchassessments. This is necessary for confidence in the actual observations of surface temperature variability and long-term trends.

Please watch Dr. Roy Spencer deliver keynote address at July 2014 Ninth Internation Conference on Climate Change:

    From wikipedia:

Roy Warren Spencer is a meteorologist,[1] Principal Research Scientist at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, and the U.S. Science Team leader for the Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer (AMSR-E) on NASA’s Aqua satellite.[2][3] He has served as Senior Scientist for Climate Studies at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center.[2][3]

He is known for his satellite-based temperature monitoring work, for which he was awarded the American Meteorological Society’s Special Award.[3]

  6. Let me see now,

-transitioning to renewable sources of energy will help reverse the global warming trend by slowing down the emission of heat trapping gases into the atmosphere,

-transitioning to renewable energy will reduce pollution by eliminating strip mining of coal, fouling of the oceans, etc,

-transitioning to renewable sources will create a technological and manufacturing revolution that will eclipse that of the tech revolution bringing untold wealth and jobs,

-transitioning to renewable energy will eliminate the dependence on oil and gas from dictatorships and other foul governments,

-and on and on…So, nah, junk science, sky is falling, if it ain’t broke why fix it, it can’t happen here, it’s all a government conspiracy, nobody’s gonna mess with my right to pollute, the sweet smell of pollution is just the sweet smell of success, and on and on.

The big question is how long will it take for natural selection to rid us of idiots, OK at least in the government. Let’s start with Inhofe. Just start with showing him explain how a melting ice cube in a glass of water doesn’t raise the level. Show it over and over and over again.

New data shows that the “vanishing” of polar ice is not the result of runaway global warming”

    By Christopher Booker

“When future generations look back on the global-warming scare of the past 30 years, nothing will shock them more than the extent to which the official temperature records – on which the entire panic ultimately rested – were systematically “adjusted” to show the Earth as having warmed much more than the actual data justified.”

  8. The problem is not a rise in global temperature causing adverse events such as fertile land turning to desert, low lying cities being inundated massive movements of people crossing borders and consequent wars. NO the problem is dirty stinking hippies.

The people who advocate things such as environmentalism and doing something about climate change were in the 60’s running around dressed in beads, caftans, long hair and peace symbols advocating against war and for immoral sexual behaviour and use of evil drugs.

All decent right thinking people are obligated to advocate against any issue that dirty stinking hippies support even if they believe that the dirty stinking hippies are correct. In the latter case when the doom about which the flower people have warned against arrives one sneeringly points to the dirty stinking hippies and say “see what you have done, by advocating amelioration of climate change you have forced us the right thinking majority to advocate the opposite with the result that New Work and Miami are under water, it is entirely your fault, had you just shut up we could have recognized climate change is real and done something about it, you prevented us”.

  9. Great video, Karen. However, I doubt even the most learned scientists anticipated many of the changes the reintroduction of wolves would have. The ego of we humans is limitless. We think we can harness nature. I grew up near the Atlantic Ocean. People w/ lots of money, resources, and ego think they can build breakwaters, dams, etc. to be able to build by the ocean. They learn the hard way you can’t. Interestingly, the great Michael Crichton gave a speech on the hubris of scientists thinking they could control fires in Yellowstone. They ended up burning much of it down. But, those scientists had a consensus!

  10. Karen S, I’m not a fan of wolves, or any type of dogs (long-live big cats), but your video was interesting. It’s hard to believe (but not impossible) how any one thing can have such a wide-ranging effect, but the video presented such a plausible explanation to the measurable changes that took place, even I can imagine it. Thanks for finding and presenting it to us.

  11. The NOAA is contradicted by global satellite data:
    http://www.drroyspencer.com/wp-content/uploads/UAH_LT_1979_thru_August_2015_v6.png

I just cannot get worried about less than .3C. That is 3 tenths of a degree Centigrade, about half a degree Farenheit (.54) hotter than in 1980. We are having a year of El Nino, so there are some terrible heat waves this year. But also in August there was still sea ice from last winter as far south as James Bay in Canada, north of Maine. Also, global warming is supposed to produce a bunch of extreme hurricanes — instead there have been fewer. (Not to mention we see the worst tornadoes when it’s still spring-cool.)

Dr. Spencer acknowledges greenhouse gases and the fact that humans produce CO2. I think he wrote that without CO2 the average global temp would be in the 30sF. But CO2’s effect is not linear, and the biggest debate is apparently about cloud forcing v feedback. Please see his home page for links to expert information on the subject.

In my opinion, settled science includes the existence of gravity, the boiling temperature of water, and maps of the human genome, for example. The global climate is a highly open, complex system that cannot even be modeled well, much less predicted well. I know that as I leave the beach and head for Denver that the temperature of boiling water will drop. You simply cannot provide the equivalent about climate. I still remember the clarion calls in 1970(?) by scientists to prepare for another ice age.
