The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has released new data on global warming that, again, the data supports the over-whelming view of scientists that climate change is a dire reality. The world has experienced record-breaking hot weather every month in 2015 and the year is all but guaranteed to be the hottest on record.
According to NOAA, August was the warmest August ever recorded — with records going back to 1880. It was 1.58F above the 20th century average. Indeed, every month this year has been the hottest on record.
On its blog, NOAA stated “We estimate a 97% probability that 2015 will become the warmest year on record.”
The issue of global warming came up during the last Republican presidential debate.

Inga – physics tells us that the size of the object in the water will be displaced by either the specific gravity or density of the object placed in it. Water has a specific gravity of 1.0.

And…….before the “true believers” pile on. None of what I wrote endorses pollution or waste or environmental degradation. It is good that we don’t use leaded gas. It is good to not have soot in the air so thick you can’t breathe…..well……unless you live in China. It is good to TRY to phase in alternative types of energy. Phase in being the key concept. It is good to use advanced scientific methods to grow food. There are a lot of good things going on.
What is bad is the blind adherence to a Luddite view of the world where those who have (Gore etc) want to drive the rest of the world into self imposed hair shirt wearing darkness and poverty. The “true believers” who have their own, but want to suppress and keep the rest of the world in poverty by denying them the benefits that they themselves enjoy.
As it has been said…..When those who demand that others comply act like they think it is a crisis and divest themselves of their own luxurious lifestyle …then I might consider believing it.

Very nice for a kindergarten grade level project at 5.47 /facepalm…….However, it is not that simple. The melting ice from glaciers does not run directly into the ocean. It creates lakes. It seeps into the ground and becomes under ground aquifers or underground lakes that people can use in the future. And yes…some goes into the ocean at some point. How much. No one knows.
The Ogallala Aquifer for example is a product of multiple ice ages and warming periods where the ice sheets melted. The reservoir in the Ogallala is one of the largest in the world.
Does the ocean rise and fall….You bet. It has done so often and will do so again. The coast off of the Eastern American seaboard used to extend farther out. It was possible to walk from Florida to Cuba….if people had been around then. Since then the ocean has come up. Florida used to ALL be under the water at one time. This is why it is mostly limestone…..a sedimentary rock
The Florida Peninsula is a limestone plateau formed many millions of years ago when the area was a warm, shallow sea. Millions of years of deposits from small sea creatures make up the limestone, which is several thousand feet thick.
So….the oceans rise and fall. Land is under and above water. None of this had anything to do with human beings. We are a gnat’s fart in the big scheme of things. Unless we set off some nuclear bombs and create a nuclear winter or decide to do something really stupid to the environment like trying to cook it rapidly……our effect on the world is greatly over exaggerated. We are NOT that important. Cockroaches are more important than we are.

Electricity generated by US wind farms fell 6 per cent in the first half of the year even as the nation expanded wind generation capacity by 9 per cent, Energy Information Administration records show.
The reason was some of the softest air currents in 40 years, cutting power sales from wind farms to utilities…
“We never anticipated a drop-off in the wind resource as we have witnessed over the past six months,” David Crane, chief executive of power producer NRG Energy, told analysts last month…
Standard and Poor’s put a negative outlook on bonds issued by two wind farm companies as their revenues tracked wind speeds lower.
“Although our current expectation is that the wind resource will revert back to historical averages, at this time it is unclear when that will happen,” the rating agency said.
Wind generated 4.4 per cent of US electricity last year, up from 0.4 per cent a decade earlier. But this year US wind plants’ “capacity factor” has averaged just a third of their total generating capacity, down from 38 per cent in 2014. EIA noted that slightly slower wind speeds can reduce output by a disproportionately large amount.
