True Believer: CNN Host Calls President Trump A “Piece of S–T”

downloadI have been writing about how President Donald Trump has brought out the worst in his critics in the media as well as the courts.  Ironically, some in these institutions appear to be rushing to confirm the stereotypes that he has painted of them.  The latest example is CNN host Reza Aslan.  CNN has been criticized by many for its coverage of Trump and alleged bias against his Administration.  The loudest critic is of course Trump himself.  Recently, CNN anchor Fareed Zakaria declared that Trump attained the White House through “bulls–t.” Now Aslan, who hosts CNN’s program “Believer” has called  President Trump “a piece of sh–” and “an embarrassment to humankind” after Trump used the latest massacre to his call for U.S. courts to approve his executive order banning travel from six Muslim-majority countries.  Aslan seemed intent to establish that he is a “true believer” in the anti-Trump cause but he also represents a media organization.  His attack is the latest evidence of media personalities losing any sense of professionalism and dispassion.  As I said yesterday, media must decide if they still want to report or merely rave at the new and newsmakers.  Aslan may be as “spiritually curious” as advertised but he is now professionally dubious as a journalist.  At the same time, as discussed below, President Trump is again causing an international outcry with his tweets after the attack.

CNN-Aslan-Eating-Brain-640x480Aslan, 45, is already controversial for one of his programs where he ate a human brain with cannibals.  It was an apt image for a profession that seems to be now devouring itself.

Many were angry when Trump’s first response to the London attack was not to send condolences or promises of aid (which came shortly after) but to use the attack against the judges who ruled against him and to call for a victory in the appellate courts:  “We need to be smart, vigilant and tough,” Trump also tweeted on Saturday evening, leading to Aslan’s initial response. “We need the courts to give us back our rights. We need the Travel Ban as an extra level of safety!”  In honestly, many of us cringed at the first tweet which came off as a bit opportunistic and callous.  Trump then enraged British citizens (and others) even more by criticizing London’s Mayor Sadiq Khan as he tried to reassure his city under attack.  Khan merely told citizens that they would be seeing a lot more police and heavily armed security officers in their neighborhoods but not to be alarmed by seeing such increased law enforcement presence.  Trump struck out immediately and tweeted “At least 7 dead and 48 wounded in terror attack and Mayor of London says there is ‘no reason to be alarmed!”  It was a very harmful tweet for many in London who saw a president lashing out at a mayor who was trying to restore calm and merely explain why people may see a lot more security out their windows.

The first tweet by Trump also set off a controversy when NBC refused to rely on Trump’s reference to a terrorist attack.   When Trump retweeted a headline of the attack, NBC responded that “Pres[ident] Trump has used Twitter to share news report on London incident. We aren’t relaying president’s retweet, as the info is unconfirmed.” I cannot recall any time that a news organization has opted not to run a presidential claim of an attack, which is itself news.  This week Trump started his speech on the Paris Accord by claiming that the attack in the Philippines was an act of terrorism (it turned out to be a robbery incident).

I have not seen a statement from CNN or an apology in the first 24 hours, which I would have expected in such a clearly inappropriate posting.

We have been discussing how employees increasingly have found themselves punished for their use of social media and how it can raise a “little brother problem.”  This is different. People in the media use social media today as an extension of their journalistic writings and voice.  For CNN, the issue is particularly acute given the criticism of its coverage.  On the heels of the Kathy Griffin controversy, this type of crude and juvenile language is wholly inappropriate for someone representing a leading media organization.

  1. In response to the order of President Trumps tweets: wasn’t it Obama’s administration who was we’ll known for saying let no crisis go to waste. Many in the left leaning media had no problem with that. Can you spell hypocrite.

  2. As I write this, the Assistant Commissioner at Scotland Yard is providing an update on what happened last night. The bravery of the Officers is a testament to the commitment by law enforcement to make a difference. Although Glad to have seen the President having called the Prime Minister–As I said, I hope that political posturing is kept to a minimum–mocking the London Mayor was also unfortunate–and there is one more key development: That the UK Elections will go ahead–which I view as significant as these lowlifes will never ever win..and hate will always lose…I also need to make sure everyone does not forget that the biggest victims are Muslims…just last night, Baghdad suffered another bombing that saw a family get killed, lowlifes in Kabul attacked the funeral of a man who died in protests telling the Afghan Government that things have to change after 90 people were killed in the center of the City….as I leave you all with this to see how rays of hope exist in the midst of the misery: http://observers.france24.com/en/20150903-kabul-afghanistan-art-lords-murals-graffiti#

  6. Let me first begin by commending Professor Turley as he spoke up for Reza Aslan back in 2013 when Fox went after him. What was unfortunate was that the President did take advantage of this to score political points–how Mr. Aslan reacted was also extremely unfortunate. What was also unfortunate was headlines from Fox News last night when there was a claim about “..This is for Allah….” even though the first reports coming out of London (and I was monitoring live feeds from Sky News (40% owned by the Murdoch Family as an FYI), BBC, the Guardian, the Sun (a news paper owned by the Murdoch Family…and it was featured in a write up our team did for the Daily Outsider) about the reasonable ,even keel analysis being done–leadership would have entailed what the President released and refrained from his political posturing. Such who do this are lowlifes–and the idea that somehow an entire faith has to be condemned must not be allowed. It is also a good thing for the UK and the World that the Concert in Manchester will happen later on today–hope folks do catch it as it is going to be livestreamed worldwide.

    1. Muslims as a group indeed perceive the west is at war to end Islam on earth. Don’t believe me. Believe OBL in his 1996 Declaration of War in which he clearly describes the West’s existential war against Islam, and Islam’s subsequent War in response against the West. If you think Islam does not perceive this as a war to the end of one side and/or the other, you’d be wrong.

      What did OBL and what does most Islam perceive as the West’s existential war against Islam? Why do “good,” “faithful” male adult Muslims leave their families, travel thousands of miles, to pick up a gun and shoot and kill Americans on the battlefield and in cafes, etc?

      Because of three Western activities the West has practiced for decades (note it is unrelated to ideology):
      1. Western military and financial support of Israel, the most hated nation on earth.
      2. Western military and financial support of the most evil, blood thirsty dictatorial tyrants who rule over Islam with an iron hand (start with the Al Saud crime family, Egypt, and work your way down most ME nations).
      3. Former and current Western military occupation of Mecca in Saudi Arabia, the holiest of all Islamic holy ground (note that 19 of 20 9/11 conspirators were Saudi nationals, as was OBL till SA dictators renounced OBL’s citizenship and declared him an enemy of the State).

      Note that at least the first two items above violate G. Washington’s advice in his Farewell Address, wherein he advises that “all foreign entanglements are temporary,” by which he means only while the US personally benefits from the association. The minute the association is net negative, George would have that relationship end. George forbade the alleged “permanent bond” HRC and Jesus Obama described between the US and Israel.

      The reason you’ll never hear the above three Western practices (not ideologies) associated with the war on terror is because to disclose this Islamic justification might lead to a debate whether the three items above should continue or not, something your MIC/Deep State/Zionist/Israel-First Overlords shall not allow.

  7. Which, stuff like this is why nobody (with any sense) believes the Main Stream Media anymore. They are simply the propaganda arm of the Democratic party, and this is just one more piece of evidence.

    Going deeper, it also proves the emotionalism and lack of impulse control which permeates the Left. Politics is a personal religious-like faith type thing to them. That is why they shut down conservative speech, because it is heresy to them. This is why the Left is sooo violent. Because sooo many Liberal ideas are simply false, wrong, or unworkable.

    What i find hilarious are the “old school” Liberal Democrats who are still convinced that it is right wingers who lack impulse control, who are likely to form lynch mobs, and who are mired in faith based beliefs. Nope. Those old people need to look in the mirror. Or maybe sing that old song with a few changes:

  8. Media appears much more interested in Bill Maher’s impromptu “joke” using house-n****, in referring to himself.. It was at best awkward and not funny but…….. Blacks from sports and media/ entertainment have weighed in… we surely must listen to them. They appear to be our wise lecturers.

    So I doubt much comes of this and meanwhile we must be thankful that people like Reza Aslan are here to instruct us in manners, morals and beliefs…. He is certainly useless as journalist. Roving agitator perhaps? Kerry, and much Botox, is also using Trump tweets about London Bridge to garner face time. Put down the syringe… it is not helping.

        When Trump won (and I did not vote for him, nor for any of the mess of a line -up) I tried to explain to friends that the D and this game of identity politics, etc., had gotten out of control. It has become maniacal. People were/are rejecting it.

The mere fact he continues to be the President is all the evidence his critics require to argue he’s being opportunistic and callous.           3. There’s also some reporting of an FBI raid of a home in Deaborne, MI said to be owned by Huma Abedin’s brother and sister. Many boxes were hauled out of the home. Suspicion is that the laptop that she said had been lost in the mail may have been confiscated in the raid. If so, that laptop allegedly contains the backup archive of all of Hillary’s emails and the 33,000 missing emails could now be found.

    My suggestion to thinking people who care more about America than about two failed parties: DNC & GOP, both of whom have betrayed We the People, is to look elsewhere–on the internet, which Hillary wants to regulate, because in so doing, the truth won’t be exposed–to outlets like – @theintercept; @counterpunch, @truth-dig; @democracynow and also conservative ones–to cross-check information that you’re fed–because you’re not going to get the Truth, the Whole Truth, and Nothing But the Truth from corporate-MSM and certainly not from CNN.
