New York University is investigating an incident involving three alleged NYU students caught on videotape tearing down posters of Hamas hostages. The videos were taken outside NYU’s Tisch Hall and shared by the Students Supporting Israel NYU Chapter. The chapter identified them as NYU students, but it is not clear if that has been established by the university.
The red and white posters with the word “KIDNAPPED” have gone up across New York City to remind people that 200 people have been taken hostage by Hamas.
It is telling that these individuals wanted to remove the images of these victims of a terrorist attack. It is one thing to advocate for Palestinian rights and to protest grievances. Many on our campuses have done so for years. However, that should be accompanied by a condemnation of the massacre of civilians, rape of women, and the taking of hostages. Those are atrocities and constitute crimes against humanity under international law. Hamas does not represent the Palestinian cause. It is a terrorist group that has engaged in unspeakable crimes.
Update: A NYU student has now admitted to being one of those tearing down the images. Yazmeen Deyhimi stated
“I have found it increasingly difficult to know my place as a biracial brown woman, especially during these highly volatile times. I have felt more and more frustrated about the time we currently find ourselves in, and misplaced that anger into actions that are not an accurate representation of who I am as a person.”

Very respectfully, no, they are spoiled children that have never suffered anything worse than a hangnail in their lifetimes, and have never been told no, not for anything. We are seeing something in the West that has nothing to do with politics, IMO. 3/4 of my wife’s students (middle school) have no idea what even happened on 9/11, or why. They are young enough that it isn’t the school’s fault. And in this case, yes, the majority of them are privileged and white, hence the irony. These are fools that would not last ten seconds immigrating to a non-Western country. ‘Queers for Palestine’ should be all the evidence we need; beheading babies or rape are nothing but a video game to them, quite literally.

My 13 year old son told him that the schools teach that 9/11 had nothing to do with Islam. They never mention anything about the Crusades seeking to beat back the Muslim expansion that was enslaving Christians, or that Muslims conquered parts of Europe for long years, leading to all that Moorish architecture. This started in very early grades. We’re in California, but the Left has infested the DOE, and this kind of propaganda rears its ugly heads in schools in the deepest of red states.
Parents need to educate their children, and at least supplement what the schools are teaching. I go over what happened on 9/11 every year. I also tell my son that all those dry dates in history about wars and the fall of monarchies, were times of great fear and bloodshed to those living it. 9/11 is just another date to most of his classmates. Parents don’t often talk about what happened on 9/11, and just assume schools mark the day. Oh they do. They blame the West for it, and Christians.
“Queers for Palestine” is one of the most ignorant things I’ve ever seen. Most of these people I see demonstrating in support of Hamas would be killed or raped by them, probably both. Queers would be thrown off of buildings. There is no critical reasoning at all.
I do think you have a good point that the child-centric child rearing of the past generation has led to serious consequences. Now as adults, if someone disagrees with or upsets them, they demand the world change to suit their views. It’s like some people never learned that other people feel just as strongly about their views as they do.
Israeli survival will be dictated by Israelis, not Americans, not even American Jews. When it comes to the wars Israel is forced to fight, it’s “win one, win one; lose one, lose ‘em all.” Unlike the US and many other nations, Israel cannot afford to lose even one war.
The closest analogy from our point of view would be the fight against 20th century totalitarian regimes that sought world domination. When Nazism, for example, sought to plunge civilization into darkness and brutality, it was not enough just to expel that monster from the nations it had invaded. The snake had to be killed. There were no German soldiers in England, Canada, or the US on D-Day. But that didn’t mean the threat was over. The Allies invaded and went all the way to Berlin, as they had to do to ensure the survival of civilization.
If you’ve ever read Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card, why was Ender chosen? Because he understood that when a bully attacks you and you fight back, it is insufficient to simply win *this* fight, you have to win all future fights. This brutal massacre of civilians by Hamas has woken Israel up from the false sense of security that it had allowed Hamas to lull it into. Its leaders realize the cold hard fact that in fighting back against the bully known as Hamas, it must, in *this* fight, win all future fights against Hamas, which really means against the evil leadership of Iran.

Conservative students get harassed at most college campuses in the US, from both professors and fellow students.

That is one facet of the problem, the main problem, which I noticed particularly at the end of my freshman year in college, 1969. When Kent State events caused most college campuses to erupt in protests, it was apparent that the faculty (which up until this pivotal moment had been rather taciturn on such events) sprang out of the woodwork with placards, protest speeches and organizations ready and willing to spread the new doctrines of the left. These radical left academics had been within the system – so to speak – for decades and this ideology of a movement to replace the old western culture was ripening all the while. I am not a supporter, per se, of Joe McCarthy but more attention should have been given to the reason that he felt so strongly (and he was no alone in these ideas) that communism and its concomitant atheism, multiculturalism and third world grievance mongering were infiltrating the very base of our American Culture. This turnaround in our nation was decades in coming and I blame, mostly, lax conservatives and ineffective rinos for allowing it to happen. I do think that at this point, without a painful cleansing, we have passed the point of no return because, demographically we have done ourselves in, especially with the Great Society legislation of the 60’s that started us on this path to socialism and all that that entails.
