Former Tennessee Vice Mayor Arrested For Allegedly DWM — Driving While . . .

originalIn Kingsport, Tennessee, former Mount Carmel Vice Mayor William Blakely is accused of distracted driving. No he was not texting or reading while driving. That would actually be an improvement according to others drivers. Rather, other drivers accused him of exposing himself and masturbating while driving.

Weiner Announces Interest In Mayoral Race While Discussing How Lack of Hugs And Access to Technology Led To His Scandal

220px-AnthonyweinerThe New York Times Magazine article on the return of former Rep. Anthony Weiner and his wife Huma Abedin has been denounced as a puff piece designed to lay the foundation for Weiner to run for New York mayor or other office. As I have mentioned before, I am astonished by so many Democrats expressing interest and support for Weiner’s return. Weiner has already reportedly spent considerable money on polling and clearly has received assurances of financial support. While many of the same people called for the removal of Republicans like Senator Larry Craig and others, it seems that sending creepy sexual pictures to unconsenting women, lying to the public repeatedly, and attacking the media is not enough to disqualify you for high public office. The article does read like a puff piece about one of New York’s power couple. However, it contains some truly bizarre insights into Weiner and his family.

Video: Woman Tosses Baby To Fight With Another Woman On City Bus

This disturbing video has gone viral of a mother on a bus this week who threw her baby in order to fight another women on the bus. The question is what the criminal charge should be in such a case. There is no record of any charge at all but the video feeds offer little information of the aftermath.

GOP Commissioner Apologizes For “N*****-Rigging” By Insisting That He “Built Habitat Homes for Colored People.”

600px-Seal_of_Kansas.svgIt appears that Rep. Don Young has a soul mate in Kansas. Saline County Commissioner Jim Gile, 68, complained in a meeting that the county needed to hire an architect to design local improvements rather than “n*****-rigging it.” It is not clear which is worse the statement or his attempt at an apology.

Louisiana Cop Discharges Weapon in Bathroom Of Strip Club And Then Leaves Scene

216120_506440856073131_1158977767_nThere is a bizarre case out of Gonzales, Louisiana where an off-duty police officer named Chase Delatte was cavorting in a strip club called Crazy Horse Cabaret when he went into the bathroom to check if his firearm in his ankle holster was loaded. It discharged and put a slug through the bathroom door. Accordingly to reports, Delatte then went outside, paid his bill, and simply drove home.

ATF Uses Brain-Damaged Man To Set Up Gun and Drug Deals Then Shuts Down Operation And Charges Brain-Damaged Man

599px-US-AlcoholTobaccoFirearmsAndExplosives-Seal.svgThe ATF continues to struggle in the aftermath of its moronic Fast and Furious operation where they allowed powerful weapons to walk into the hands of gangs. One of those guns led to the killing of a U.S. Border Patrol agent. However, in true lunacy, a more recent operation would seem to demand similar ridicule. In Milwaukee, ATF agents ran an operation using Chauncey Wright, a brain-damaged 28-year-old man with a low IQ in the 50s to set up gun and drug deals. They then shutdown the operation and, you guessed it, they arrested Wright.

Baja, New Jersey

By Mark Esposito, Guest Blogger

390-mike-rice4Watching the unfolding meltdown at Rutgers University this week you had to be struck by the full array of human weakness on display. Prompted in large measure by a disgruntled former employee (all truth seems to come out that way), the school was rocked when a compilation video surfaced showing three years of verbal, physical and mental abuse heaped on student athletes whose crime was winning a basketball scholarship and having the misfortune to play for Head Coach Mike Rice and Assistant Coach Jimmy “Baby Rice” Martelli.

Yoo: Torture Memo Author Criticizes Liberals For Not Supporting Female CIA Official Implicated in Torture Program On Diversity Grounds

yoo-jpeg Law Professor John Yoo has avoided criminal prosecution and bar charges for his now discredited defense of the Bush torture program. Even the Bush Administration ultimately rejected his infamous torture memos as poorly reasoned and unreliable. Undeterred, Yoo is back in the press condemning liberals for caring more about torture than diversity in not supporting a woman for the head of the CIA’s clandestine service. The woman was reportedly implicated in the torture program and is one of those officials who effectively got a “get out of jail free” card by President Obama when he pledged that no CIA employees would be prosecuted for torture at the start of his first term. Yoo is denouncing liberals for failing to support a woman simply because of a little thing like torture.

More Art Than Science: Evaluating the Evaluations

xhBuPsj Like many law professors, I am in the process of handing out evaluations this week and this posting on Reddit from a fellow law professor’s class caught my eye. Before leaving the classroom for the completion of evaluations, the professor apparently put up on the screen his favorite ding on evaluations with a student who wrote: “I don’t wear my seatbelt driving to school because I want to die before I make it to this class.”

Virginia Is For [Some] Lovers: Cuccinelli Continues Fight To Save Crimes Against Nature Law

virginia%20is%20for%20loversVirginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli has decided to continue the fight to preserve the state’s “crimes against nature” law that bans both oral and anal sex in both heterosexual and homosexual relations. The United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit (considered by many to be the country’s most conservative circuit) struck down the law on obvious constitutional grounds. However, Cuccinelli has filed a motion for reconsideration to try to get that decision reversed. The current attorney general and likely GOP gubernatorial candidate Ken Cuccinelli wants to keep anti-sodomy laws on the books in Virginia.

Pat Robertson Explains Miracles More Likely In Africa and Other Countries Where People are Less Educated, Simple, and Humble

Rev. Pat Robertson appears to have isolated the reason for the decline in miracles and faith in general — education. In a recent answer to why there are more miracles in places like Africa, Robertson explained that in places like Africa people are “simple, humble” and just accept what you tell them.

Something’s Not Kosher: Jewish Market Under USDA Investigation Over Selling Non-Kosher Meat

220px-VengeanceIsMineIn Los Angeles, the U.S. Department of Agriculture has launched a rare investigation into the Doheny Glatt Kosher meat market after a council of rabbis withdrew his Kosher certification. The USDA is looking into allegations that the owner of Doheny, Michael Engelman, served meat that did not meet Jewish dietary standards. The investigation places the federal government in the awkward position of enforcing a religious practice. At issue is whether the meat was not adequately certified by rabbis. However, the tale has more turns than a Mike Hammer movie with a gumshoe, a mysterious rabbi, and boxes of meats carried out of car trunks and warehouses.

Reading ‘Rriting and Religion: Tennessee Legislators Move To Kill Voucher Bill To Avoid Funds Going To Muslim School

597px-Tennessee-StateSeal.svgSchoolClassroomMany of us have opposed voucher systems as thinly veiled efforts to publicly fund religious schools in addition to a system that undermines our public school system. Republican lawmakers in Tennessee seem intent on confirming the religious motivations behind the system this week in opposing vouchers because it has occurred to them that Muslim schools might be able to receive funding with Christian schools. They are threatening to block Republican Gov. Bill Haslam’s school voucher bill unless they can find a way to deny it to Muslim schools — a suggestion that brings sectarian prejudices to the forefront of the debate.

Wrong With Wright: Smithsonian Under Fire For Wright Brothers Contract

Wright_Flyer_First_Flight 660There is an interesting contracts controversy brewing over at the Smithsonian. Yes, it is possible to have an interesting contracts controversy. In this case, the contract was signed in 1948 between the estate of Orville Wright and the Smithsonian. The contract required that, in exchange for the famed Wright flyer, the Smithsonian would never recognize that anyone else was first in flight. That does not sit well with historians who believe that the first in flight was actually German immigrant Gustav Whitehead. Putting aside the historical debate, a contract requiring the museum legally to deny historical claims is plainly unethical. Is it an unenforceable unconscionable contract?

Saudi Man Faces Paralysis Under Sharia “Eye For An Eye” Sentence

200px-Coat_of_arms_of_Saudi_Arabia.svgA Saudi court is prepared to carry out a sentence to have Ali Al-Khawahir surgically paralyzed in conformity with Sharia law’s “eye for an eye” traditions. Al-Khawahir was only 14 when he stabbed a friend and left him paralyzed. Now, his family has failed to pay the victim “blood money” to be released from jail. After ten years of negotiations over the blood money, Al-Khawahir faces total paralysis under the Kingdom’s medieval legal system.
