CSI – Minneapolis: Who Did The Ferret?

Police in Minneapolis are awaiting an autopsy to determine if Thomas James Hart, 23, is a killer. It is an all-too-familiar story: boy meets girl, girl dumps boy, boy drowns ferret. The whodunit will turn on the whether the victim has water in the lungs — evidence that Hart drowned him in a bowl of water. The problem is that the victim is a ferret.

The Bear Necessities of Murder: New York Man Planned Murder of Ex-Girlfriend While Wearing Bear Pelt

In New York, Clyde Gardner, 57, hatched a unique plan to kill his ex-girlfriend that involved skinning a bear, hiding among garbage cans, and walking on all fours. After the plan proved a bit too complex, he returned to that old favorite: the car crash. It all ended without an injury when Gardner was accused by the would-be hit man. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced this week.

Florida Woman Found Guilty of Criminal Neglect In Leaving Dog At Store For A Day Despite Absence of Necropsy

There is a fascinating case out of Florida this week that raises questions over the required proof needed for a criminal conviction — in this case, animal cruelty. Carla Ann Thomas was convicted of animal neglect after her a 5-year-old Akita named Sache was found dead after being left over the weekend at Healthy Paws, Thomas’ health food store for dogs and cats in St. Petersburg. She was convicted despite the fact that there was no necropsy and no one knows why the dog died. The prosecutor says that that is immaterial.

Neighbors Call Police When Man Slaughters Cow In Driveway . . . Police Declare It Perfectly Legal

Police in Ogden, Utah, were called to a man’s home when neighbors say that they heard a moo, a shot, and saw the man cutting off a cow’s head. The police came and declared that the man is allowed to butcher the animal at his home. And you thought your neighbors’ lady leg lamp in the front window was disturbing.

Tragic Mistake or Dog Lynching? New Jersey Woman Charged With Animal Cruelty After Death of Yorkie

There is an interesting criminal case out of Perth Amboy, New Jersey where Isabella Rojas-Soriano, 30, faces two counts of animal cruelty after she left her dog unattended in her car while her family went to eat at a Chinese restaurant. Scoobey ended hanging itself by its leash.
