Driver Captures Moment of Collision With Flying Tire

This scary video captures how little time a driver can have in avoiding a wreck when a tire flies over a median at the approaching car. We often deal with accidents in torts but it is hard for a jury to sometimes understand the very limited time for reaction. Indeed, one of the tricks of litigators is to give a sense of greater time by breaking up the period in a series of decisions or actions.

Two Fleeing Felons Allegedly Toss Out Bag Of Cocaine . . . Which Lands On Police Car

vazquezvalesAs a Bears fan, I am used to turnover passes at critical moments but this is ridiculous. Kissimmee (Florida) officer Christopher Breuer was trying to pull over a gold Acura at 2 am after the car allegedly slammed into his cruiser. However, the car kept going after Breuer put on the lights. Trailing the car with this spotlight on the occupants, he then saw the sun roof open and a hand threw out a bag of cocaine . . . which landed on the hood of his police cruiser. Luis Vazquez, 30, (left) and driver Jose Vales, 38,(right) are now under arrest.

One In A Million: Park Employee Finds Winchester ’73 Leaning Against A Juniper Tree In Nevada Park

imrs-1.phpThis story hit all of my buttons: national parks; vintage guns; history; hiking. Recently, a Parks employee was hiking in a remote part of the Great Basin National Park when they spotted something leaning against a juniper tree. It was a 132-year-old Winchester rifle and appeared to have not moved since it was leaned against an old tree — eventually weathered to the point that it virtually blended into the tree unless you were close by. For a rifle that produced the famous “One in One Thousand,” this is truly a one in a million.

Northern Virginia Hit By Blizzard of A Tenth Of An Inch Of Snow . . . Schools Close

IMG_1806Ok, I admit that I can be a broken record about snow phobia in Virginia and the inability of drivers to cope with a single flake of the white stuff without creating piles of burning wrecks. However, my four children will be staying home today because of the snow. I had to actually go outside to see it but it is there — a dusting of the stuff but enough to shutdown one of the largest school districts in the country.

Can You Spot Something Missing In This Picture?

RALLY-articleLargeThe cover picture on the Israeli newspaper HaMevaser may seem familiar to those who watched the historic march for free speech in Paris this weekend, but something is missing. If you said, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, you have a keen eye and the qualifications to be an ultra-Orthodox Jewish newspaper editor. The newspaper removed not just Merkel’s picture but the mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo and Simonetta Sommaruga, the president of Switzerland as well as a European Union official. The reason? God does not want men to see pictures of women, even world leaders, for reasons of modesty and religious purity.

Sixty-Four Dartmouth Students Suspended For Cheating . . . In Ethics Class

883_original220px-Dartmouth_College_shield.svgDartmouth college has suspended 64 students in what appears an unprecedented action over cheating. What makes the action even more unnerving is that the cheating occurred in an ethics class. Most students have been suspended for a term. Professor Randall Balmer said that he was tipped off when he received more answers to this questions than students in the class.

Parade Politics: Accusations Fly Over Who Was Present And Who Was Not In Paris For the March For Free Speech

President_Barack_Obama220px-Erdogan_croppedMuch of the talk after the massive march for free speech in Paris this weekend was the absence of President Barack Obama with other world leaders. It was an embarrassment for our country and slap in the face to the French. Instead, the Administration sent Jane Hartley, one of its bundlers turned diplomats who were given a major appointment for raising money for the President. Even though Attorney General Eric Holder was in Paris that very day, he did not even stick around to march with other leaders. The Administration is now admitting that it blew it but there is a mystifying lack of basic competence and foresight at the White House at such moments. Rather than attend the rally, Obama stated in town for a photo op with the San Antonio Spurs. It was a shameful image to leave with French. This was not the only such controversy over who was present and who was not.

Frosty Fatwah: Saudi Arabian Cleric Declares Snowmen To Be Anti-Islamic

220px-Frosty_the_Snowman_GBVarious news sites are reporting a new pronouncement from a Muslim cleric that might be chilling for Muslims who have joined in a common winter practice in neighborhoods around the world. Sheikh Mohammed Saleh al-Munajjid told a follower on a website that snowmen are anti-Islamic and building them is a sin. It appears that sin has come to Saudi Arabia in the form of snow this year falling over upland areas of Tabuk province near Saudi Arabia’s border with Jordan.

Heil Heifer: Gow’s Cows and the Nazi Bovine Menace

Adolf_Hitler_retouched220px-EnichiresThis truly seemed like an April Fool’s joke or hoax, but farmer Derek Gow has a problem with Nazi cows. Gow’s cows are the only herd of Nazi-engineered cows in the country. However, he found that they have a habit of trying to kill everyone around them. It appears that the cows view all pastures as part of their Lebensraum and seek to eradicate anyone who is not a “Hecker super cows.”

Popular Rapper and YouTuber Films His Trashing A Chicago 7-11 . . . But Remains At Large To Make Additional “Prank” Videos

Screen Shot 2015-01-08 at 7.28.06 AMThe video below is one of many by a Chicago man who videotaped himself and a friend ransacking a 7-Eleven on the Gold Coast on New Year’s Day and then stealing a coffee pot. It appears part of a series of such “pranks” by rapper who goes by the name VonMar. What is astonishing is that the Chicago police has not gotten around to arrest this guy who is identified, has sites on YouTube, Vine, and Facebook despite videos like this where he and his friend act like complete thugs and torment the store owner and customers.

Florida Couple Booked For Shoplifting But Never Tells Police About Kids Locked In Car . . . For Seven Hours

walmartparentsTosheba Hope, 30, and Gerald Moultrie, 24, were arrested outside of a Walmart in Lauderdale Lakes, Florida for walk out of the retailer with $660 worth of tools and automotive accessories. Nothing unique there. Shoplifting is a continual problem for retailers. What makes this case notable is that the police took the couple away and they never mentioned that they had left their three children in a locked car in the parking lot. Indeed, for seven hours in lock up, police say that the parents said nothing about the kids. It was reportedly Walmart workers who spotted the unharmed but highly distressed kids in the car.

Can You Guess What John Balmer Was Arrested For?

ByZihXKIf you said drugs, you are correct. John Balmer, 50, was arrested and charged with possession of meth at the Kmart in Hudson, Florida. Harvard Law Professor Dershowitz Threatens Utah Law Professor Cassell With Disbarment Action

image.hmlAlanDershowitz2Former federal judge and University of Utah law professor Paul Cassell is facing a rare threat of a bar complaint over his representation of a client in the notorious case of billionaire and convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein. Even more rare is the source of the threatened complaint: retired law professor Alan Dershowitz of the Harvard Law School. Epstein is good friends with Bill Clinton and Duke of York Prince Andrew, 54, who have been mentioned in litigation over allegations of the use of underaged “sex slaves” and Epstein’s alleged penchant for watching (and filming) people having sex with these girls. Dershowitz’s name has appears on the ignoble list contained in motions before a federal court in Florida. Dershowitz is now threatening to initiate disbarment proceedings against Cassell and Bradley Edwards, a Florida attorney who also represents Jane Doe #3 in the controversy.
