Iraqi Journalist Gets Three Years For Throwing Shoes At Former President Bush

Obama Issues Signing Statement — Only Days After Negating Such Bush Statements

Afghanistan Supreme Court Upholds 20-Year-Sentence For Journalism Student Who Asked Questions About Equal Rights For Woman

Afghan courts have produced yet another example of its de-evolution into a medieval Sharia system. The country’s Supreme Court has upheld the 20-year-sentence of Parwez Kambakhsh for blasphemy. He was convicted of asking questions in a university class about women’s rights under Islam and downloading an article on equal rights for woman. Somalia Sharia Justice: Court Sentences Rape Victim to Death While Gang Rapists Laugh as They are Given Light Flogging

However, they were light flogging through their clothes that did not break their skin. They laughed as people watched the largely symbolic flogging. In the meantime, last October the Sharia court sentenced a rape victim to death by stoning.

“Illegal Mingling”: Seventy-Five Year Old Woman Sentenced to 40 Lashes and Jail for Merely Speaking With Two Young Men

300px-fomfr_whipKhamisa Sawadi, 75, is a Syrian widow of a Saudi man still living in the Kingdom. She has been sentenced to 40 lashes and four months in jail for simply being seen speaking with two young men who are not her relatives. After being flogged and jailed, she will then be deported for the crime under Sharia law. She was convicted of “illegal mingling.”

Iranian Justice: Eight Women Face Stoning Deaths for Adultery

250px-flag_of_iransvgIran is reportedly preparing for the possible stoning to death of as many as eight women for adultery in its medieval legal system. In one case involving a woman, Ashraf Kalhori, who was accused of both adultery and taking part in the murder of her husband. In Iran, she faced 15 years for the murder, but a stoning death for the adultery.

Supreme Court Vacates Fourth Circuit’s Ruling on Al-Marri

07scotus_190 This week, the Supreme Court delivered a decision was as brief as it was significant. The Court vacated the recent ruling by the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit that the President can detain Ali Saleh Kahlah al-Marri, a citizen of Qatar who was lawfully in the United States as a student when he was arrested in 2001. The ruling will relieve the Obama Administration of the necessity of having to choose whether to support or oppose the Bush Administration’s arguments.
