We have another story out of England raising questions about increasing limitations on free speech. In this case, David Hoffman, 63, placed a poster in his window that showed David Cameron and the word “wanker.” He was handcuffed by police on election day and forced to remove offensive campaign literature from his home.

The citizens of Temple, Texas have reinstituted corporal punishment for students in the form of paddling for everything from skipping classes to wearing inappropriate clothing. In the meantime, Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-N.Y.), has stated her intention to pass legislation banning the practice — a proposal that could raise some serious constitutional issues.

The Budget Lodge motel could face some interesting lawsuits after the body of Sony Millbrook, 28, was found in the bed frame in a room that the hotel rented out to other guests. Millbrook, the mother of five, has been missing since January.

Metropolitan Police Commander Ali Dizaei, 47, has long been a star in the London force. The highest ranking most senior Asian officer and former head of the Metropolitan Black Police Association, Dizaei’s career came to an end this week after being sentenced to four years in jail for assaulting and falsely arresting a man in a dispute over £600.

We have previously noted the problem with President Barack Obama assuring the public that people like Khalid Sheikh Mohammed (KSM) will be convicted. After the previous such incidents (here), many of us noted that a president is expected to avoid such comments which are inimical to a fair trial and sitting an unbiased jury. Now, in the video below, White House Spokesman Robert Gibbs has decided to pick up the role as the Red Queen to promise not just a conviction but execution for KSM.

Police in Georgia have arrested Lynn Middlebrooks Geter who is charged with forcing her 12-year-old son to kill his pet hamster with a hammer as a punishment for bad grades (the boy’s bad grades not the hamster’s). “Killing pet with hammer” appears to be farther down on after “no television” and “no sleepovers.” Way down on the list.

Yang Guangsheng, principal of Wujing Junior Middle School in Linqu county of Shandong province, and Wang Dongping, vice-principal, were suspended after Student Zhang Jixin, 14, was found dead after freezing to death. He was told to stand outside in the cold all night by a teacher as punishment. The teacher went out drinking and forgot about the student.
